Chapter 31

It was half twelve at night and the thunderstorm was still passing through.

Corey was asleep and Oliver was just starting to drift off but every time the thunder crackled in the sky, it would wake them up.

Luka couldn't bring himself to sleep, he was too tense and scared to settle down.

He was laying on top of Rayvon with his face buried into the side of his neck.

Every time the thunder would hit, Rayvon planted a kiss into his soft hair.

He wanted his soulmate to sleep but it was clear that he wouldn't until the storm went away.

Panuleon and Jed were listening to the Angels whispers. Some of the thunder was due to an angel of higher power being extremely angry.

They were trying to figure out what it was but their voices were not very clear.

Jed is an angel of higher power which means he has a greater authority stance over Panuleon.

The Angel does look up to Jeduthun, he is a very important Angel and one that is very popular in heaven.

Jed doesn't see it that way. Yes, he has the authority but in his eyes, he and Panuleon are equal.

"They're talking about the children" Jed whispered.

Panuleon nodded and glanced at Luka who only just closed his eyes.

They always talk about the children.

Just then, there was a bright light that flashed from outside the tent, the vampires thought it was lightning but the angels could sense something else.

The zip to the tent opened immediately and in walked two male angels.

Jed and Panuleon stood up, getting ready to protect their family if they needed too.

The vampires had sat up in a panic as Madison switched on the big lamp so they could see what was going on.

Luka and Rayvon looked at the two winged men. They didn't know if they should be fearful or not.

"Panuleon, Corey and Luka are due back to heaven."

Corey was rubbing his tired eyes before sitting up.

Panuleon frowned at the angel.

"What do you mean?"

"The elder angels need you back in heaven."

Panuleon was beyond confused.

"Corey and Luka don't belong in heaven," He said while narrowing his eyes.

Oliver was also rubbing his eyes as he tried to understand what was happening.

"Too many angels are rebelling because of this family. If you're in heaven, they won't."

"Excuse me," Jed said. "You can't come to earth and demand that he goes back to heaven after all this time."

"I have orders to," He said bluntly and looked at the other male angel.

He nodded and tried pushing past Panuleon to get to Luka but the angel wasn't moving.

"I don't belong in heaven anymore," He said. "My family and life are on earth, it's not our fault that the angels want the same freedom."

"It is your fault. You broke the rules by falling in love with a human."

Jed and Panuleon shared a glance. It's rare, but these two were angels who didn't accept Panuleon.

"I'm not going back to heaven, you're not taking my family. We belong on earth and we're staying right here."

Vinny watched. He was a little confused but he understood that these angels were trying to take Corey, Panuleon, and Luka up to heaven because too many angels were trying to get the same freedom by rebelling.

"I'm keeping you with your family. You should be thanking me."

"No you're not" Panuleon frowned. "This is my family," He said and looked at every single person in the tent.

"You're not taking anyone to heaven, now go, you're disturbing our night," Jed said.

"I'm not leaving without Panuleon, Corey and Luka."

Rayvon sat up and held Luka close to his chest. He looked across at his parents with worried eyes.

Corey was watching with a concerned frown.

Just then, there was another bright flash of light coming from outside, making everyone tense except for Jed.

Another person entered the tent but everyone recognised his face.

It was Zachariah.

Jed had called for him to come and help.

Now there were two angels of higher power against two simple angels. Surely, they won't carry on with this crazy request to take Panuleon and his family up to heaven.

"Explain yourselves," Zachariah said while standing next to Panuleon and watching the two angels.

"We have been ordered by an elder angel to collect Panuleon, Luka, and Corey and take them to heaven. Too many angels are breaking the rules and rebelling because of them."

"If the elders can't keep the angels under control then that's their problem and they need to sort it out. You can't take two people who have never been in heaven and an angel who has lived on earth for eighteen thousand years" Zachariah said while crossing his arms.

"He has lived on earth for as long as he lived in heaven and he's an angel. He should never have made a family with a human and he's a bad example to the rest of us."

"I have a human soulmate," Zachariah said. "The angels allowed me to fall in love if I looked after Corey and Panuleon when the demon's attacked. Do you understand why everyone in this tent is brought together? It's not simply because of love or rebelling behaviour, it was for a greater purpose."

"We understand that, but the demon war is over and they need to be brought to heaven."

"You think by bringing them back to heaven will make the angels settle down?" Jed questioned. "Panuleon will not stop until he, Corey and Luka are back on earth where they belong."

"You can't separate my son and his soulmate" Panuleon said. "You have no idea what chaos you'll cause if you do."

"Then we'll take Rayvon too."

Vinny stood up with a glare that made the angel's heart speed up.

"If you touch my son you can say goodbye to those feathers" He growled.

The angels looked at each other like they were weighing up their options. They know that they'll be in trouble if they return empty-handed.

Suddenly, they both lunged forwards and grabbed Panuleon. He gasped as their wings shone bright and their grips tightened.

Nobody had time to react as they vanished so quickly.

Corey had tried getting to his feet but collapsed when Panuleon was pulled past their five-meter mark.

He cried in pain and wrapped his arms around himself.

"No" He wailed and gasped for air. His chest felt like it was being stabbed.

Zachariah and Jed vanished too, chasing after the angels.

Luka scrambled out of Rayvon's grip and crawled over to his father.

"Dad," He said in a panic. He has never seen him look so sad and in pain before. "It's okay" He wrapped his arms around him and tried so hard to comfort him.

Oliver got up and walked over to help.

Vinny looked at his parents, they were all as stunned as each other.

Things happened so fast. Why would angels come in the middle of the night and demand that a human, a half angel that was born on earth and an angel who has made earth his home, return to heaven?

Clearly, the angels could now see how unfair it was that they had strict rules in heaven and wanted something more, something worth living for.

Corey whimpered and clung onto his son.

The further his soulmate was pulled away, the weaker his body became.

"It hurts" He sobbed and rubbed his chest. He was beginning to shake as Luka's mind was panicking.

His dad was taken and his other dad was full of sorrow. He felt so many emotions and Rayvon was feeling them too.

He was kneeling behind Luka with a hand on his shoulder, he couldn't bear not to touch him.

"It's alright Corey, he'll be back. Jed and Zachariah will make sure of it" Oliver said. There wasn't much they could do to help.

John was watching with worried eyes. He felt so sorry for Corey, he looked like he was in so much pain and suffering some serious heartache.

tears spilled over Corey's eyes as his whole body trembled.

"Pan" He whispered. He could no longer hear his thoughts and his mind felt incredibly empty and lonely. "I-I need him."

Madison felt like crying as she went over to help Oliver comfort him.

"There's nothing we can do" Duke sighed while standing next to Vinny. "We just have to trust Jed and Zachariah. I hope they get to him and fast."

Corey was gasping for air as his eyes scrunched shut. His breathing was all over the place and he couldn't control his tears.

He was sobbing and Luka was trying so hard to comfort him but now nobody could do that, except for Panuleon.

* * * * *

The angels had crashed about ten miles from the campsite.

Panuleon couldn't even move. He was curled up and crying for his soulmate. They have never been so far apart and it was killing them.

Jed and Zachariah stood in front of him with knives in their hands and a look of extreme warning in their expression.

The two angels didn't like having angels of higher power being this angry at them.

But suddenly, two more flashes landed in the street.

Jed and Zachariah stood closer together, getting ready to protect each other.

Two female angels who looked to be in their mid-seventies stood before them. The angels recognised them as the elders.

"Congratulations Jeduthun and Zachariah, you passed," One woman said with a proud smile.

Both angels glanced at each other with a frown.

"We passed what?" Jed asked, still tense and on guard as poor Panuleon sobbed on the floor behind them.

"These two boys came with strict instructions to take Panuleon from your care. We had to see if you still had what it takes to protect the boys at all cost."

Zachariah then looked extremely angry.

"All of that was a test!?" He shouted. "Look at the state of him! You caused the boys this much pain for a test!?"

The two ladies smiled.

"It seems, you care for them more than we thought. This is good, keep up your game angels because the war is only two thousand years away, you need to be ready."

Jed put a hand on Zachariah's shoulder to help him calm down.

"Come on, we need to get them back together."

They both turned and picked up Panuleon. He was close to passing out and they needed to reunite him with Corey right away.

They didn't even look back at the other angels before vanishing.

The elder angels grinned at the boys as they all flashed their wings.

"I knew they'd succeed and I'm very happy that they did. We have a very good chance of winning this war if the angels are still that committed to their duties."

They all nodded in agreement before flapping their magnificent wings and vanishing,

Back up to heaven.
