Chapter 28
Jed had bought a huge lamp that was powered by batteries. He was aware that Luka and Oliver are not fond of the dark and wanted to make their trip as comfortable as possible.
It was now half ten at night and everyone was sitting in the tent with hot chocolate and snuggled inside their sleeping bags.
It was pitch black outside but the big lamp made it nice and bright inside.
Oliver was wearing a bobble hat that Vinny loved so much. He had a hoody on and the sleeping bag pulled right up to his chest.
It was a little cold, but the humans were doing well.
Rayvon and Luka were sharing just one sleeping bag. Luka was sitting on his knee which was nothing new, they did that when they were little.
But now things were different because they had feelings for one another. It made every close encounter very special.
"Luka, your toes are so cold" Rayvon chuckled.
"I know" He smiled. "They feel cold."
Rayvon then leant over and rummaged through his bag. It only took him a few seconds before he pulled out some socks that were small enough to be Luka's.
"I knew your feet would get cold so I brought you extra one's."
"Thanks" Luka grinned. They know each other so well.
He took the socks and made sure their fingers brushed across each other. Every time their skin touched it felt so wonderful and warm, right in the pit of their soul.
"Have we got plans for tomorrow?" Panuleon then asked, just before Luka's wings exploded into Rayvon's face.
He quickly folded them and apologised.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't control it."
"It's okay" Rayvon smiled.
"We forgot to wash your wings," Corey said. "Can you hold on until morning or are they really irritating you?"
"I can wait if I don't put them away again," Luka said with a little nod.
Rayvon knew that they were very itchy and irritating him but he didn't want to burden his parents right now because it was late.
"Are you sure?" Panuleon asked. He could read his son like a book.
"I'm sure" He smiled.
"If they get too annoying during the night, I'll wash them for you. It's not a problem" Jed said.
"Okay."
Luka was happy that uncle Jed was prepared to help with absolutely anything.
Rayvon could feel the warmth of his feathers against his chest and for some reason, it filled him with so much love.
For someone who is almost human to have wings was very spectacular. He knew how rare and special this part of Luka was and he cherished his unique qualities.
To think about his best friend being part of an angel was enough to fill him with pride. Only three full angels currently existed in this world.
Panuleon, Jeduthun, and Zachariah.
So to connect the world's strongest bond with the world's only half angel was something to be very excited about.
When the boy shivered, Rayvon pulled the sleeping bag further up his chest.
"So yes Panuleon, we do have plans for tomorrow" Duke then said, remembering to answer his question. "We were thinking about having a picnic next to a beautiful waterfall. We have reserved the spot so it's not open to anyone but us."
"That sounds great" The angel smiled. His calming aura oozed out from his relaxed body language.
Corey then yawned and rubbed his eyes. It was getting late for the humans and half angel, they were starting to feel tired.
"So, because the rest of us don't need to go to sleep until around one in the morning, is it okay to leave the lamp on until we go to bed?" Madison asked. She knew Luka might appreciate that although, he looked very tranquil when he and Rayvon were so close.
"That's fine," Oliver said, not wanting to seem desperate but he would prefer it if the light was still on.
Vinny smiled and rubbed his back. It was definitely the dark night's that made his soulmate dislike camping in something so vulnerable and open to the outside world.
"Yeah, I can sleep anywhere" Corey chuckled which was very true.
He and Panuleon ruffed it for years after his parents passed away. They couldn't let anyone know about them and they were constantly on the run from demons.
They've slept in caves, trees, abandoned buildings, beaches and anywhere they could find that was safe for the night.
"Alright then" Madison smiled. "You look tired Luka."
Admittedly, he was struggling to keep his eyes open but the fact that they were camping was exciting and keeping him awake.
"I think it's time for you to go to bed" Panuleon smiled.
Rayvon turned to face the single airbed that they would be sharing. It was hard to fit just him on it, let alone Luka too.
Rayvon didn't have the height of his parents yet. His head only came up to Vinny's shoulder but he wasn't small for his age either.
"You can just lie on top of me," He said while Luka climbed out of the sleeping bag.
Vinny and Oliver watched, realising that this might not work.
"Son, I don't mind sleeping on the floor so you both can have more room," Vinny said. theirs was a double airbed.
"No, it's okay, we'll manage," Rayvon said while lying down.
When standing, Luka's head came up to Rayvon's shoulder and he was naturally petite anyway. So he didn't take up much room.
Luka climbed back into the sleeping bag and laid on top of him. He rested his head against his shoulder and settled into him.
If they were at home, this simple action felt normal but in a tent full of people, it suddenly felt like a big deal.
Judging by Oliver and Corey's excited glance, it was a big deal.
"You two are so cute" Madison beamed. She beat Oliver to it.
Rayvon sighed but said nothing. His red cheeks spoke for him.
Luka held tightly onto his t-shirt, loving the warmth of his soulmates body underneath his as he let his wings rest at either side of him.
Vinny's eyes softened at the kids but Oliver was forcing his excitement into their souls and he didn't want to embarrass his son.
"Are you warm enough Luka?" Rayvon asked.
"Yes," He replied quietly while pulling his sleeves over his hands.
Rayvon didn't really feel the cold due to him almost being a vampire.
One thing he loves to do is to cuddle Luka. Holding his little soulmate in his arms feels like he's holding the most precious thing in the world.
He treats him with so much care and love.
But they felt awkward showcasing it in front of their parents. It's still new and being soulmates requires a lot of affection, especially with their bond.
They're starting to realise that the need to kiss, hug, touch and be close is growing stronger with each passing day.
They need to listen to their feelings, they won't be able to hold it back for too much longer.
Also, the need to have a make out session was growing in their soul, the taste of each other was something they are already starting to crave.
They haven't yet kissed with passion and it would soon become compulsory in their relationship.

Duke woke at about quarter to five in the morning.
The sun was only just starting to rise so he was only just able to see his surroundings.
He silently yawned and stretched his back before looking at all the couples, sleeping peacefully.
He smiled at Panuleon who was lying with Corey.
It then dawned on him that he and Madison were the only couple that was not a same-sex couple.
He chuckled softly to himself, loving how life had taken him in a completely different direction to what he imagined.
He then looked at John who was beginning to stir. He felt sorry for him. He had to sleep alone and hasn't found anyone yet.
He also thought that about Jed, but looking how things turned out, he would not be surprised if they ended up together.
He turned and looked at Vinny who was sleeping in the bed next to them.
Oliver was lying on top of him and had his arms wrapped tightly around his neck with his face buried into the side of his. Although, they looked very comfortable and at peace as Vinny's arms were wrapped around his waist.
He smiled, remembering back to when it all started.
He was so surprised that his son was falling in love with another man but after that, he learned never to stereotype anyone ever again.
He was proud of his son and Oliver too. Now Rayvon and Luka are forming the world's strongest bond and he has the pleasure of witnessing every moment.
To call himself lucky would be an understatement.

Luka flapped his wing, getting water all over Panuleon.
"I'm sorry, it tickled," He said quietly.
"It's okay" The angel chuckled. "Are they feeling better?"
Luka nodded and took his gaze to Rayvon who was washing his other wing.
"How many feathers does one angel wing have?" The half vampire asked.
"One wing has three hundred and thirty-six feathers," Panuleon said casually.
Rayvon didn't question how he knew that but he was an angel so, why wouldn't he know that?
"That's a lot," He said and delicately massaged his hands through Luka's feathers.
"Boy's, your breakfast is ready" Oliver yawned.
He and John are in charge of cooking breakfast this morning but it was only half seven and Oliver was not enjoying the early start.
There was a little shop next to the toilets and Vinny had bought his soulmate a coffee, knowing that would put a smile on his face.
"Here, drink it all," He said while handing Oliver the cup and kissing his cheek.
"Thank's Vinny" He mumbled and gave him a smile.
Vinny squeezed his shoulders before taking the food over to Luka and Rayvon.
They had just finished washing his wings but he had to leave them out in the open until they dried.
Corey was helping by gently rubbing a towel over them.
"Thank you," the boys said together.
Vinny stood next to Panuleon as they did what they do best and observed them.
"How do you cope with the angels whispers and Corey's thoughts in your head, as well as your own?" Oliver asked the angel as he stood with a spatula in his hand.
"I have to admit, it's a very crowded mind. But I have learned to focus on one thing at a time, which is mainly Corey's voice."
"I can barely manage with just my own thoughts. I'd probably cry if I could hear Vinny's too."
Vinny looked at him with a frown.
"You'd love it."
Oliver scoffed and turned over the sausages.
"I'd love it, he says" He mumbled, mocking Vinny's voice.
Everyone chuckled as the couple shared an amused glance.
"So what about you two," Oliver asked before turning back to his son and Luka. "How are you coping with sharing your thoughts with each other?"
"It's okay actually" Rayvon shrugged. "It was weird at first but it's nice that I can hear him when I can't see him."
Oliver nodded, agreeing. He would like to hear Vinny when he couldn't see him.
"And are you getting used to your limit?" He asked, referring to their twenty-minute time slot.
"Yes," They said in sync.
"Are you getting used to that?" He chuckled.
"Kind of," They said again.
Rayvon smiled at Luka, enjoying how closely combined they are now.
"Are you-"
"Oliver" Vinny interrupted. "Let them eat their breakfast."
"Let them eat their breakfast" Oliver mocked sarcastically.
Vinny shook his head before walking over.
"You're so annoying."
"I know, I'm sorry" Oliver chuckled.
Vinny softened his gaze and kissed him lightly on the lips.
"Don't be sorry, just shut up instead."
Oliver blinked with the blankest expression he could manage.
"I don't think it's possible for Oliver to stop talking," John said while turning the sausages before they burned.
"Dad, don't gang up on me" Oliver chuckled.
"It's true son, you could talk for England if we let you."
Everyone laughed at this but Oliver knew he talked a lot and asked a lot of pointless questions all the time.
"It's the only talent I've got, don't make me feel bad about it" He grinned.
Vinny loved hearing him talk, he loved hearing his voice and wouldn't change a single thing about him.
"You're too cute," He said and embraced him in a cuddle. "You're talented at lots of other things, you just haven't found them yet."
Oliver smacked his hands away and gave him a pretend scowl.
"Corey help, I don't have a comeback."
Panuleon chuckled as he gazed at his soulmate.
"Being around vampires and angels, it's amazing that us humans can find a talent" Corey smiled. "Oliver can out talk me and I'd say that's pretty impressive."
"I agree," Panuleon said but suddenly realised that might not be a compliment on his soulmate's behalf.
Corey chuckled and shook his head.
"It's okay, you're allowed to admit that," He said and squeezed his angels hand.
Panuleon nodded before rubbing his back.
"Right" Duke interrupted as he came out of the tent. "After breakfast, we'll get going."
Everyone nodded and settled back into comfortable conversations.
Rayvon and Luka had held hands while their parents were distracted. relief had filled their hearts at the physical touch but they were also beating hard, hoping that they didn't make a fuss.
They have to get used to showcasing it soon, and they will.
