Adelaide stood there, silently. Philip was in front of her, a proposal just from his lips. It wasn't real. It couldn't be. "Oh, my goodness." Her heart pounded and she could hear the thumping in her ears. Her knees trembled and she groped the air for the rocker, sitting down once she found it.

"Adelaide, I love you and I wish to have no other. You give my heart thrill and you light up my once dark life. I will find no other woman who will compare to you." He grasped her hands in his. "Even if you do not love me in return, please let me give you a better life. You and Roisin will live in comfort and not ask for anything for as long as you live."

Addy breathed deeply. "Philip, I admit while I do share feelings for you, though not as deep, I cannot marry you." When she saw his face fall, she touched his cheek and continued. "Not because I do not want you, but because I cannot allow you to marry such a person of low stature in society. I am a commoner, not royalty. You need to marry a princess or some other woman with a title and fortune to her name. I have neither." She smiled lightly. "I would not wish for you to be frowned upon for marrying me."

Philip shook his head. "I do not think you know the story of my mother, darling. You see, my mother came to our kingdom as a scullery maid. She worked in the castle kitchen for years before she met my father. When my father met her, he did not care what her position was. He saw a woman filled with light, passion, and beauty. My mother has sat next to my father on the throne for twenty five years and the people love her. She is graceful and can speak on the behalf of the people because she was one of them. They love her and they shall you. Do not let your position get in the way of this, please." He cupped her face with his hands. "I know you do not love me as I do you. I know you would not want to lie with me at night. But think of Roisin. She would grow up content and as royalty. She will have the best tutors and finest things from around the world. I can give you all of these things if you will let me."

Adelaide sat in silence for a moment. "I have a..well, a proposal, Philip."

He laughed. "It is I who has the proposal."

She smiled and laughed lightly. "While that is true, I have a proposition. I will accompany you to the kingdom and live there, but not in the castle. I will live in the town and find work. If you still intend on having my hand in marriage, you will have to court me, pursue me. We have not known each other for a long time, Philip, and we do not possess enough knowledge of each other as a married couple should." He said nothing and she was afraid she had angered him. "That is my proposition."

Hey guys! So I know this chapter was pretty short and I apologize. But this is where I was comfy with stopping at.

New information and decision on this story: The rest of the chapters will be in Addy's point of view, unless otherwise stated in the chapter bar or at the beginning of the story. I find that it is easier and best for the story rather than flipping from each POV each chapter. It might help keep things from getting confused and tangled up.
