Mark's pov
I was making breakfast for me and Jack. He was sitting on the couch in front of me watching TV, though he seemed deep in thought. I finished cooking some pancakes and placed them on the small table the apartment had.
"Breakfast," I called to Jack but he didn't seem to hear me. He's done this a list lately, where he just zones out, and its kind da worrying me.
I walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder, shaking him out of his trance, and smiled at him. He nodded in understanding and got up.
"I made breakfast," I said softly. He tried to smile again but quickly gave up when it didn't work out.
He has still been trying to be normal again but it is taking some time to do so. We ate in silence for a while before I noticed he wasn't eating.
"Jack?" I asked and he looked at me with sorrow. "Are you okay?"
He seemed to think over the question for a while before looking down at his plate. He continued in silence for a while but when he spoke up it left me a little scared.
"Don't you hear them?" He said in a hushed whisper.
"Hear who?" I questioned, getting up and walking over to him.
"Them. They won't shut up," his voice rose slightly and cracked at the end. He began shaking his head and pulled at his hair.
""They torment me and won't let me forget. I just want to forget. Please. Please. Please," he began sobbing and I quickly pulled him into a hug.
"Shh, shhh. I'm here, don't worry. The only voice you need to listen to is mine okay. Don't listen to any other voice," I tried telling him but he pulled away from me.
"Don't you see Mark? I've tried to block them out but they just get louder. They tell me to do things I don't wan to do. They tell me things I don't want to hear. And I can't get rid of them. They won't go away, they won't stop, they won't stop," he sobbed as he backed up against a wall.
"Listen to me Jack. You don't have to listen to them," I tried but he didn't seem to hear me.
"Make it stop. Make it stop. Please just stop!" He began crying out. I tried to calm him down but nothing seemed to work.
He slid down the wall and lifted his knees to his chest but his feet still pushed away from himself. He slowly rocked back and forth and muttered things to himself.
"It will be fine. It will always be fine. Nothings wrong here. Nothing at all. Nothings wrong. Nothings wrong. Hehe. Were all crazy here. We all have a voice in our heads telling us what to do. Some just choose not to listen hehehe. I chose to listen though. I chose to listen once and now they're gone. They're all gone because I had to listen didn't I? Stupid. Stupid. STUPID!" He had been whispering most of it but began shouting near the end.
"JACK!" I raised my voice to match his, which was actually quite difficult, and he suddenly stopped talking an stared blankly through me.
"Why did I have to listen? Why didn't I just ignore it like the rest of you? I let them in and the only way to let them out is to get rid of the cage... Get rid of the host and they'll go away. Yes, they'll go away and I won't have to listen to them. It will be silent again. It will always be silent," he began muttering again and I quickly figured out what he was talking about.
I wasn't going to let him 'remove the host' any time soon. I needed to keep an eye on him and make sure he didn't do anything he would regret.
"Are you two okay?" I heard a voice at the door. It was Bob.
"Uh, kinda. You can come in it's unlocked," I called and shortly after I heard the door open and footsteps approach.
"God, what happened to him?" I heard Wades voice asked. I quickly turned to him to see he wasn't smiling anymore. His smile was replaced with the look of fear.
"I don't know," I answered truthfully. Bob let out a nice that told me he was thinking. I heard the rattle of pills and a lid being screwed off.
"Try this," Bob said holding out two white pills.
"What are they" I inquired, not quite willing to give Jack anything if it will hurt him.
"They'll calm him down," he simply said. I sighed and took the pilled and the cup of water I had poured for Jack earlier.
I carefully gave Jack the pills and helped him drink the water. He slowly stopped muttering things and seeped to fall back into his usual blank characteristics.
"You feeling okay Jack?" I asked quietly. He looked up at me and nodded slowly.
"They're still there. But quieter now," he whispered as if he didn't want to alert anything. I nodded and looked back at my two friends.
"Thanks for the help but where did you get those pills from?" I asked Bob. He had his eyes locked on Jack.
"The asylum. I got to keep them for Wade when he goes a little too crazy," he said without taking his eyes off Jack.
"Do you think you might be able to get some more for Jack?" I asked. Bob opened his mouth to speak but Jack spoke up.
"I have some. Top draw. My room," was all he said before he fell silent again.
"Why didn't you tell me? And have you been taking them?" I asked a little angry. Why wouldn't he tell me that he needed pills?
"They told me not to tell. They told me not to take," he stated.
"Who's they?" Wade asked. I forgot they didn't know.
"The voices. They're always telling me to do things. They're talking to me now," Jack spoke up. He really did sound scary.
"What are they telling you?" Bob asked cautiously. Jack looked up and I could see the emotions swirling around his head.
"To kill you."
Well shit. Also, I you didn't get it by now, When Back speaks it sounds like a person from an actual mental asylum with a high pitched voice and all that. But the way he speaks is like Anti in a way... Yeah. If you don't get it then awe well.
