I'm so tired but let's do this.
Mark's POV
I woke up to screaming. When I opened my eyes I realized Jack wasn't next to me anymore an the blankets were strewn about the bed, some hanging off the edge.
I quickly rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes and stumbled out of bed. I looked around the room to find Jack on the floor kicking and screaming. He was having a nightmare.
I rushed over to him and quickly shook him awake. As soon as his eyes opened he screamed again and tried to pull away but a held his shoulders in place.
"Jack! It's just me. It was just a nightmare. You're okay," I said to his calmly but also desperate. He slowly stopped kicking and began to sob into his hands.
"W-was-snt a n-nightm-m-mare," he sobbed out and I pulled him into my arms, rubbing his back soothingly.
What did he mean by it wasn't a nightmare? It certainly looked like a nightmare to me. So why eid he say it wasn't?
I didn't question him as I let him calm down and his crying ceased. He didn't pull away from me though.
"Uh, Jack?" I asked, trying to get his attention. He simply hummed into my shoulder, showing me he could hear me. I wanted to ask him but let out a sigh instead.
"Are you okay now?" I decided to ask instead. He nodded into my chest before slowly pulling away, as if any faster would cause him harm.
"Thank you," he mumbled before rubbing the tears from his face. I gave him a weak smile.
"It's okay. You don't have to apologise," I replied softly, putting a hand on his shoulder. He tried to smile but it didn't work.
He just couldn't seem to be able to bring even the slightest of smiles to his face anymore. The most he could do was form his lips into one straight line but other than that it was always a frown.
My smile dropped slightly when I realized this but still remained on my face. I made a decision that I wanted to see him smile again. I wanted to make him happy.
"Let's get you some water shall we. Your voice is a little harsh from screaming," I said softly as I stood up. He remained on the floor for a second before getting up.
I turned to leave but stopped when I felt a hand brush against mine. Jack hand slipped his fragile fingers between mine and was holding onto them for support.
I gave him another small smile before closing my hand around his. He seemed to relax when I did and let out a small sigh. I was glad I could make him feel more comfortable.
I led him to the kitchen and poured him a glass of water. He was hesitant to drink I but eventually took a small sip before putting the cup down. He tried to leave but I stopped him.
"Drink more please," I whispered, afraid he would pull back I I spoke any louder. He let out a sigh and seemed to contents late it before picking up the cup again and drinking a little more.
I stayed with him and made sure he drank the whole cup before smiling and giving his hand a small reassuring squeeze. Once again he tried to smile but again it fell short.
I wasn't going to rush him I to bring back to normal again straight away. I want to let him take his time in getting used to do in the normal things again.
I found an apple on the bench and decided to fut it up. It was a bit difficult with one hand but I managed. Once the apple was cut into small enough pieces I picked up the smallest piece and turned to Jack.
He shook his head in objection but I didn't lower the piece if fruit. He looked up at me to see my begging expression before letting out a shaky sigh.
He took the piece of apple and nibbles on it for a while before finishing the piece. I smiled and took a piece myself.
After eating it I realized he still hasn't tried to grab another piece. I gave him a sad look and he sighed again, hesitantly reaching for another piece.
He once again slowly nibbled on the portion of apple before finishing the rest. We continued like this for a while before the whole apple was gone.
I gave Jack another smile, which was returned with another failed attempt, before leading him back to the bedroom.
As I went to climb in he froze and didn't move. I looked at him to see the fear on his face. He didn't want to sleep in case he had another nightmare.
"Don't worry. I'm right here if you need me. I'll stay awake so if anything happens I can help alright?" I wasn't really asking him a question but it sounded like I was.
He thought for a second again before slowly nodding and climbing into the bed, me right next to him. He didn't close his eyes straight away, seeming as if he did he will instantly fall into another nightmare, but gave me one quick glance before his eyes fell shut.
A few minutes later he was fast asleep but he began whimpering and moving about. I pulled him into my warm arms and he slowly stopped making noises.
His breathing steadied and his body relaxed. With every outtake if air he made a soft snore that I thought was absolutely adorable.
I couldn't help the smile form on my face from what I had achieved today. I had calmed Jack down after a nightmare, or whatever it was. I had managed to get him to eat and drink something and I had managed to get him to fall back asleep again. (feeling achieved^-^) I just hope nothing bad happens.
I wrote this in an hour... What? It usually takes like three hours... Oh wait. I wasn't mucking around this time. Riiiiight XD
