Just as Misty, Ash and May made it into the main stadium, everyone's attention had turned to a different screen, rather than Dawn's match in front of them.

"Clemont's match seems a little intense, huh?" Ash commented as he propped his head up, taking his seat next to Brock once more.

"Dawn is having trouble, but yeah, Clemont has been holding his own. Those Haxorus's are tough, but Luxray is strong. Very strong" Brock replied, turning back to Dawn's match to give her support. "You can do it Dawn!"

Clemont was keeping his cool and Sarah was getting slightly frustrated, with her stronger dragon Pokemon struggling.

"Cat got your tongue?" Sarah asked Clemont, who hadn't said a word for the past thirty seconds, their Pokemon facing off.

"Just waiting on you to make the first move" Clemont replied calmly, pushing his glasses up ever so slightly.

"Haxorus, use giga impact!" Sarah started off with a bang, her Haxorus disappearing instantaneously.

"Huh?" Clemont looked around, confused. Where did Haxorus go?

There was a sudden moment where nothing happened, then Haxorus appeared out of nowhere and smashed straight into Luxray, driving the electric type Pokemon back, but Luxray wasn't going to give in.

"You like Haxorus's speed?" Sarah grinned, narrowing her eyes challengingly at Clemont, who returned the same grin.

"You could say that" Clemont turned his attention to Luxray, who was now waiting patiently.

"Lets go Luxray, use wild charge!" Clemont declared, Luxray moving in quickly and aggressively.

"Nu-uh" Sarah sighed, massaging her temples like Clemont's move had given her a headache. "You're too easy, Haxorus, dig"

Haxorus, whose speed was unmatched, disappeared into the ground like he was never even there, Luxray hitting nothing but the air.

"Haxorus, get'em!" Sarah shouted, to which Haxorus came flying out of the ground, smashing into Luxray's body. The both rose into the air for a moment, Luxray falling down onto his side. "Now, use bulldoze!"

"I can't keep up" Clemont murmured to himself, as Haxorus jumped up and prepared to stomp onto the ground. "Luxray, use swift..."

Luxray turned to Clemont, who sounded hesitant. Within that one second, Haxorus landed on the ground, sending a shock wave straight at Luxray.

"Luxray, jump!" Clemont noticed the little gap they had to their advantage and his grin came back.

Luxray leaped into the air, flicking his tail outwards. He hadn't forgotten Clemont's first signal and the stars flew into Haxorus, doing pretty much nothing to the strong dragon Pokemon.

"Now, use electric terrain" Clemont continued, while Haxorus was recovering. We don't have lots of speed. Or time. But what we do have is an unbreakable bond. Teamwork is how we will win!

Luxray made the arena electrified once more, making his moves stronger.

"Wild charge, let em' have it!" Clemont put everything into this, Luxray feeling the capacity of his emotions.

Everyone watched as Luxray put everything into his stride, the electric energy around him growing and growing as he charged straight at Haxorus, who had recovered by now.

"Haxorus, watch out!" Sarah, who now had a face of concern, shouted out to her second Haxorus, but it was too late. Luxray smashed head first straight into Haxorus, sending him back, the damage clearly showing on his body.

"One more!" Clemont called out to Luxray, who immediately repeated his move, smashing into Haxorus once more.

Luxray backed off to Clemont again and everything became silent. Everyone looked around, waiting to see what was going to happen next. Sarah's Haxorus stood, staring into to space like it had already passed out and then slowly dropped onto the floor and fainted.

"Haxorus is unable to battle!" The referee looked over at Clemont, who was all smiles by now.

Sarah stared blankly at her second Haxorus, then at Clemont's Luxray, who was panting and covered in injuries. Each wild charge inflicts damage on his Luxray, so this time I am going to wipe him out once and for all!

"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" Clemont asked with a little grin.

"What?!" Sarah shouted, sneering in anger. "I'll show you! Haxorus, return!"

Clemont waited as Sarah said something to her second Haxorus and then she brought out another pokeball.

"One more time, Haxorus, it's all yours!" Sarah threw the pokeball and another Haxorus came out. But, this one looked very different compared to the others. "Destroy that Luxray!"

Her Haxorus had red eyes and there was a red aura surrounding it.

Outrage. Clemont instantly thought. How long can Luxray go?

"We are not scared of your Haxorus!" Clemont shouted in defiance as her Haxorus aimlessly charged at Luxray. "Infact, this will be our flawless victory!"

Haxorus came charging at Luxray, who immediately sidestepped like it had been planned, causing Haxorus to slash mid-air.

"Thunder fang!" Clemont told Luxray, who leaped up at Haxorus and dug his teeth into Haxorus's belly, the electricity charging them shocking Haxorus, but it didn't do much for long.

"Haxorus, poison jab!"

"Oh no you don't, Luxray, back off now!" Clemont was wary of any attacks, making Luxray move away to stay in the fight.

"Haxorus, bulldoze!"

Haxorus went from a poison jab to smashing his feet on the floor, causing a shock wave.

"Luxray!" Clemont shouted, realizing he didn't have enough time. Luxray flew back from the power of the shock wave, hitting the wall.

There was another tense moment were everyone though Luxray was finished. He was on his side for a moment, the whole crowd watching and waiting.

But, Luxray remembered something from their journey in Kalos.

"It's ok Luxray, you tried your best" Clemont, who had tears in his eyes, patted Luxray's head. Luxray also had tears in his eyes, he was badly hurt, with scratches and bruises all over his body. "You tried your best". But, even as a Pokemon, Luxray had his own thought process. He knew his best wasn't enough. He had tried to save a Shinx from a group of wild Pangoro, but had failed to keep one of its own kind safe, because he couldn't get up after being hurt too much. The Shinx had consequently fallen down the hill side and was gone, due to being incapable of surviving on its own.

Luxray wasn't about to give up now. For all the times he had laid there and had been unable to battle, for the Shinx he couldn't protect. Luxray tensed the muscles in his legs, his whole body shaking as he got to his feet. Luxray was so hurt, he had one eye closed and looked different, his body covered in cuts, his fur turning red in some places.

"How adamant, hmmph" Sarah folded her arms. "No matter, after we defeat your Luxray, we will finish off your other puny Pokemon"

"Luxray.." Clemont could hardly talk, he breathed out the words and stared as Luxray half-limped back over to Clemont. "You can rest if you-" Clemont stopped. He could see the determination in Luxray's face and had to accept it. Clemont smiled and then nodded. "Ok, Luxray, put everything you have into this move. Wild charge!"

"Wild charge?!" Sarah jumped up in shock, but then scoffed. "Ha! We have this in the bag"

Haxorus turned to Sarah, expecting her to say something, a command, anything. She seemed so confident that she forgot the strategy that Clemont had used recently. Luxray dived round Haxorus, missing on purpose. Then Sarah remembered and she knew she was in trouble. Haxorus was still outraged, but his reactions were too slow as Luxray went into the back of her final dragon Pokemon. The move had such great impact, that a small shock wave was sent out through the arena and the ground beneath Haxorus, who was trying to stop the hit from sending him back, began to crack.

"Luxray thunder fang!" Clemont shouted, hoping Luxray was still able to fight. Luxray was and he just managed to get his teeth into Haxorus, the electricity shocking him once more. But, while this move was shocking Haxorus, Luxray fainted.

"Luxray is unable to battle!" The referee then turned to the final Haxorus, who fell face down onto the ground, with Luxay resting on his back. "And so is Haxorus! The winner is, Clemont!"

"Oh my-" Clemont almost fell over as he sprinted over to Luxray. "Are you okay, Luxray?!"

Luxray didn't reply, he didn't even flinch. Clemont immediately picked up Luxray and rushed outside, not celebrating for even a moment. He ran until his legs started to burn, ran like he had never done before. Clemont didn't care that he could barely breath, being the worst runner in the group, he bolted down the path and to the Pokemon Centre at the other side of the tournament area.

"Is he okay?" Serena asked, following Clemont, Miette and Bonnie behind her.

"I hope so" Clemont, who had already handed over Luxray, was sitting down and waiting.

"They're good at their jobs, y'know" An unexpected voice said. It was Brock, with the rest of the gang following behind him.

"All of you guys?" Clemont was a little surprised. "But what about the other matches?"

"We'll fill you in on the details later" Ash sat down next to Clemont, who suddenly smiled.

I have the best friends in the world. He thought, looking around at the faces that mirrored his expression.
