Chapter 37 - The Quest For Zekrom
Jeremy and Jake forfeited their matches the following day, luckily having them on that day as well. They was quite annoyed that it meant Serena and Miette were automatically going through, but they knew it was for the greater good, at least in their eyes.
The Unova region was quiet, with various Pokemon setting the scene. Forest full of various flowers and bright green trees, the sun cascading its rays down on the trees, shadows growing taller as the sun rose higher throughout the day.
"Don't let your guard down" Jeremy warned Jake, who nodded. "We don't know who could be around here, at any time"
"Is the device all ready?" Jake asked, keeping up with Jeremy who was striding through the forest, which now seemed caliginous and threatening.
Jeremy glance down at his waist, where a collar hung from his belt. "Of course it is, we have to hope the new updates will keep Zekrom in check longer than it did with Ash, plus, we have packed enough electrical energy in this bad boy to increase Zekrom's power tenfold"
"How will he know who to attack?" Jake wondered.
"Was you not listening during our brief? You have to contact The Boss and tell him it's ready, so he can talk and order Zekrom" Jeremy explained, looking up above the trees. "I can see the tower, lets get a move on"
Meanwhile, in the Kanto Region, everyone had left the stadiums early.
"I feel bad not supporting the other participants" May frowned, fidgeting as she walked.
"Well, I couldn't stay in there any longer, we all need to talk about something" Cilan pulled a straight face, showing he was being serious. Everyone decided to follow him into the diner they always went into it. Everyone ordered milkshakes and sat down at the biggest table.
"Spill it then, Cilan" Misty said inbetween slurps.
"I know we are all glad Miette and Serena got through, but don't you find it strange that not one, but TWO members of Team Shadow just forfeited randomly? First the problem with May and their new Darkrai and now this?" Cilan, frustrated, placed his hand under his chin in annoyance, resting his elbow on the table. He leaned forward and sipped on his milkshake.
"It is strange" Brock nodded, scratching his chin.
"You all look perplexed, might wanna chill" Dawn shrugged, while everyone stared back at her. "Just stating the facts"
"Dawn is right, we don't need to think about them guys, lets be opti...opt-" Miette struggled to get the last word out.
"I think you are looking for optimistic" Serena laughed.
"Y-yeah" Miette went red in embarrassment.
"Optimistic, sounds like a plan" Ash nodded and Pikachu fist pumped in agreement. "Lets forget about them, for now"
"I guess you are right" Cilan nodded. "We are thinking about this problem too much, it is probably best to handle anything when it comes to us"
"You mean YOU are thinking about the problem too much?" Misty grinned, the straw from her cup still in her mouth as she continued to gulp down her shake.
"I suppose" Cilan couldn't help but smile as he lifted up his milkshake.
"Ok then, with that out of the way, what now?" Clemont asked, looking around the table.
Everyone looked at one another, with no plans in mind.
"What about the beach?" Dawn asked. All of the girls immediately jumped up in excitement.
"I'll ask Gary if he wants to come too" Ash got up, without even agreeing himself. The guys knew that the girls had the majority vote.
In the Unova Region, the black stone had been used and everything was going to plan.
"Get your Absol out, mega evolved and ready" Jeremy started to back off, the broken pillars shaking around him profusely.
Jake brought out his Absol. "Absol, mega evolve!" He said almost instantly.
"Tyranitar, mega evolve!" Jeremy's Tyranitar, who was already out, began to change just like Jake's Mega Absol.
Both Pokemon stood side by side, waiting. They look battle hardened, not even afraid as Zekrom appeared from the stone, roaring with so much force that the ground began to shake.
Zekrom's eyes instantly fell over the two mega evolved Pokemon and it shot a thunderbolt straight at the pair, lightning fast. The bolt travelled too fast for Absol and Tyranitar, causing an explosion due to the force.
"He has some power alright" Jeremy grinned, not even phased. Jake, on the other hand, shielded his eyes from the explosion.
"Absol, flamethrower" Jake recovered and managed to keep his composure. Absol met Zekrom with a powerful burst of fire from its mouth, the flames connecting off the body of Zekrom as it glided back up into the air, looping round to attack once more.
Zekrom fired off another thunderbolt, but Jake and Jeremy were ready.
"Dodge it!" They said in unison. Absol leaped one way, while Tyranitar, who had surprisingly quick feet, moved to the other side.
"Sunny day!" Jeremy shouted to Tyranitar over the explosion. Tyranitar used the move and the sun grew brighter, making fire moves more powerful. Which would cause problems for Jeremy and Jake, but they had not realized this yet.
"Absol flamethrower!"
"Tyranitar, fire blast"
Absol roared and fired the flamethrower straight at Zerkom, with Tyranitars fire blast connecting with the flamethrower, the flames shooting off in four different directions, surrounding Zerkom.
There was a sudden blue flash and an enormous, explosive, cannon like thunderbolt that smashed into the ground, completely obliterating the other side of the tower. The power still sent Absol and Tyranitar back against the wall.
"Damn it, I forgot that Zekrom can use fusion bolt" Jeremy almost facepalmed mid-battle.
"Yeah, so?" Jake asked. Jeremy's face instantly made him look like he wanted to hit Jake.
"It does more damage if a powerful fire attack is in play!" Jeremy shouted back.
"We better be careful, Absol, double team" Jake decided.
Absol made multiple copies of itself, surrounding the tower. Zekrom continued to fly around, not phased by the use of this move. Jake gritted his teeth and tried a different approach.
"Jeremy, throw me the collar and use stone edge to send me and Absol up at Zekrom" He suddenly said, shocking Jeremy.
"Are you insane? That's suicide!" Jeremy walked over to Jake, completely ignoring the threatening Zekrom flying above them"
"Just do it, okay? You can trust me" Jake handed Jeremy the walkie talkie and in turn, received the collar.
"If you fail, I am going to kill you" Jeremy warned Jake, who nodded and prepared himself.
"Absol, stand her and get ready.
Jeremy stood a perfect distance away. "Tyranitar, stone edge, send Jake up into the sky!"
Tyranitar did just that, stomping on the ground and causing several rocky platforms to rise from the floor. Each one rose higher and higher, Jake being on the last one.
"Come and get me, you pathetic black dragon!" Jake waved at Zekrom, who heard his words and charged at him, firing off thunderbolt after thunderbolt with speed and power. "Absol, use protect and put everything you have into it.
Absol used protect, a blue like shield forming between Jake and the thunderbolts. Absol strained as it continued to keep the protect in play, while Jake focused, preparing himself. Just ask Zekrom came swooping over him, Jake leaped up, and grabbed onto Zekrom's neck. It roared out in annoyance, heading straight for the wall to try and shake Jake off. Sweat began to from from Jake's forehead as he struggled to get both hands onto Zekrom, the collar hanging loosely from his other hand.
"Tyranitar, fire blast on the wall!" Jeremy suddenly shouted. Tyranitar roared and then sent the fire blast at the wall that Zekrom was trying to crash into. The fire blast encased itself around the wall, blasting a hole through it. Zekrom went flying through the wall, meaning Jake was okay. Jake reached up one last time and just managed to latch the collar on.
Jeremy saw this and connected the walkie talkie. "Hello, Boss?" He spoke fast, hoping for an immediate reply.
"Do you have him ready?" The Boss asked straight away.
"Yes, you can go ahead and commence phase two" Jeremy replied, realizing that it was Jake who was supposed to be doing this part of the job"
"HeeeeeeEEeEeEeelp!" Jake screamed as Zekrom rushed around in the air.
"Stop" The Boss's voice came faintly through the collar and Zekrom's eyes flashed, red in colour. Zekrom immediately stopped and then waited for further instructions.
"Pick up the boy in the tower and listen to everything they say, they are your friends" The Boss continued.
Zekrom did everything he asked, making Jake and Jeremy both smirk.
Everything was coming together nicely.
