Chapter 6
Following his unforeseen attack on Miami, Godzilla was left in a state of deep confusion. The enormous reptile was now swimming at a slow, calm pace in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, its imposing dorsal spikes cutting through the surface of the water like paper. Monarch ships, as well as an armada of armed helicopters, had been tasked to escort Godzilla and monitor him while remaining at a safe distance in the possible event of further hostility on his part. But the titan simply ignored them and continued his journey.
Finally, Godzilla came into view of a small rocky island lost in the middle of the immense body of water and seemed to be heading there. Emerging from the water, the king of the monsters set foot on this island, although it was devoid of any trace of life. The operators present in the ships immediately informed Monarch of Godzilla's shutdown and his rather confusing behavior. Indeed, the titan seemed lost, as if he was still trying to understand how he could have lost control of himself and found himself on the other side of the world without knowing it. Expressing a deep growl, narrowing his eyes, Godzilla was disturbed by something... a very old but familiar feeling coming back to haunt him... He had experienced it before, but... no, it couldn't be this what he was thinking about, unless... As if guided by his millennia instinct, his attention was drawn towards the sky, which he observed for a very long time and with great distrust. From the helicopters flying over the surroundings of the island, Monarch agents observed the titan with their binoculars.
_"But... what is he doing?" one of them asked into his talkie.
_"I don't know... it seems... like he's looking for something in the sky." replied another, equally perplexed.
For his part, Godzilla showed more and more anger as he looked at the sky. In his memory, certain flashes from the past came back to him... So they had returned, they had dared... Clenching his fists, his eyes and his dorsal spikes shining with blinding intensity, Godzilla emitted a deafening roar towards the sky, like a cry of rage but also of defiance towards something invisible but very real, of which only he was aware. The emanation of radiation emitted by the titan was such that the entire rocky island began to heat up and slowly burst into flames. The water around the island, over a radius of several tens of meters, began to boil. The Monarch choppers were forced to move away as quickly as possible due to the deadly heat aura that settled in the area.
_"The radiation level is through the roof! And his adrenaline is skyrocketing... Yeah, there's definitely something that made him angry." said one of the operators on one of the ships.
_"The whole question is to know what." declared the captain.
Standing in the middle of the island ignited by his own radiation, Godzilla spat out all his anger and defiance in a powerful atomic blast that pierced the sky. If these invaders wanted war again, they would have it!

An early evening tinged with a climate of extreme tension began in the city of Miami after the passage of the two titans. A large number of buildings and streets had been more or less destroyed and there were a significant number of civilians missing under the rubble. Rescue teams, supported by Monarch forces, were deployed across the devastated area of the city to come to the aid of survivors and evacuate the most seriously injured as a priority to the nearest hospital services. But Godzilla wasn't the only concern and the Alpha Breed's presence had not gone unnoticed. In order to counter any risk of further attacks, army patrols had been instructed to patrol the Miami sector and its surroundings. More than intrigued that the ecoterrorist group, although so discreet until now, went on the attack precisely on the day that Godzilla made his reappearance in public had not escaped Bernie. Not believing in coincidences when it comes to titans, the podcaster and conspiracy theorist that he was decided to take a walk through the streets of the city to try to take as many images as possible of the devastation caused but also try to collect clues about the more than doubtful presence of the Alpha Breed here. But the Monarch forces as well as the other authorities present would not say anything to him and systematically told him to get out of the way and let them work.
_"That's crazy... I saved the world twice and that's how people thank me. What a bunch of ungrateful people, I'm just trying to expose the real truth." Bernie whispered.
However, expecting such a reaction, he decided to proceed more discreetly and film in secret, hiding the camera under his jacket. But as he walked, a very interesting detail caught his attention. In front of the museum not far away, police officers were busy taking the statement of a man, probably the curator, the latter totally upset and wearing a survival blanket on his shoulders. Bernie also noticed paramedics were taking corpses under sheets from inside the museum, while other people, probably members of the museum staff, in shock, were escorted out by police officers. His instincts tickling him, Bernie decided to go around, entering through a narrow and discreet alley wedged between the museum and another building, in order to get as close as possible to the conversation without being seen. He plugged his microphone into his headset and turned the volume up loud to hope he could hear something.
_"Please try to calm down, sir and explain to us what happened." said one of the police officers.
_"I already told you, we were in the process of evacuating the last members of the staff when suddenly, this group of armed and masked men arrived and killed several of our security agents. As for the members unarmed staff, they made us kneel, tie our hands behind our backs and lock us in the reception desks." said the museum curator, still in shock.
_"And did these armed men steal anything from the museum?" then asked the police officer, writing in a notebook.
_"Well... yes... just one thing." the curator remembered. "A fragment of a jade tablet from the Azumi era that was to be unveiled to the general public at the exhibition of ancient Japanese treasures scheduled for a month."
This revelation particularly interested Bernie and made him think. An antique Japanese tablet? Why would the Alpha Breed be interested in such a thing, they who claimed to be above all a group working to elevate the status of humanity to the same rank of the titans? Unless this tablet... He had seen so many incredible things, especially during his adventure in the Hollow Earth, that the unthinkable was no longer a barrier. Dozens of theories began to germinate in Bernie's mind who was sure that this burglary at the museum by these pro-evolution extremists and the return of Godzilla had a connection, but which one? It had to be discovered. Having recorded everything he wanted, Bernie quietly slipped away and hurried back to Madison and Josh.
Meanwhile, at a small temporary outpost that Monarch had established on Miami Beach to oversee operations in the area, Madison and Josh had been brought here by Mark and his team. Josh was forced to wait in a large tent, seated at a table and under the supervision of a guard who prevented him from leaving.
_"By the way... Do you remember the Hong Kong incident? Well, I was there. I even contributed to the defeat of Mechagodzilla, you know." Josh then said in an attempt to break the very awkward silence that reigned.
But the guard remained silent as a grave, staring at him stoically.
_"Okay... I'll be quiet." Josh added, looking away.
At the same time, in another tent located closer to the heart of the temporary camp...
_"I can't believe what just happened... Have you gone crazy, Madie? Do you want to die or something?! Do you even have the slightest idea of the nonsense risks you took?"
Madison, annoyed, sitting at a table, had now been listening for several minutes to her father lecturing her copiously. The deep concern and relief he had expressed toward her at seeing her alive had quickly turned to anger, which was what she expected.
_"I knew perfectly well what I was doing, Dad." Madison retorted coldly, crossing her arms.
_"Really? By throwing yourself headlong in pursuit of a berserk titan? Seriously, stop making fun of me!" Mark replied also dryly.
_"I wanted to understand why Godzilla was in this state." Madison said without trying to justify her reckless risk-taking. "You saw clearly like me, he was confused, he was aware that something was wrong with himself. And I will point out to you that I am an adult now, I am old enough to take my responsibilities as a such."
_"Adult or not, you're my daughter, dammit!" Mark said, banging his fist on the table.
Madison didn't jump when her father's fist slammed on the table and they both stared at each other. Mark was angry, it showed as clearly as the nose on his face, but the man took it upon himself to calm down. Exhaling deeply, he placed his hand on his daughter's shoulder.
_"Madie... what you did was inconsiderate, dangerous..." said Mark in a calmer tone but full of deep and sincere concern. "When I saw you, about to be pulverized by Godzilla... I thought I'd lose you forever. I couldn't protect Andrew, nor Emma, so just the thought of the same thing could happen to you... I don't want to live that again... Never, do you understand? You are the most precious thing I have in the world."
With these last words, Mark gently hugged his daughter against him, letting the great fear he had felt for her express itself after the anger. Madison, although a little upset with her father for still treating her like a child, was able to understand and shared the embrace.
_"I didn't want to cause you any problems, Dad, I assure you." Madison said. "But... since what happened in Boston and then in Hong Kong, I feel that... I don't know how to say it but deep down, I know that I have to show the world that Godzilla is not isn't the soulless destroyer they think he is. He needs me, like I need him..."
_"Madie, stop..." asked Mark. "Do you hear what you're saying? Look, I know he saved your life in Boston, but it was just a coincidence, nothing more. You talk like there's some kind of mystical connection between you and him but that can't be possible."
_"And what can you know about it?" Madison retorted. "You spent your life wanting him dead, and it seems that deep down, despite the years, that hasn't changed. You all take him for an animal, but I know he's good more than that and I will never stop believing in him."
Mark looked at his daughter as if he no longer recognized her. Seeing her talk about Godzilla like this with such devotion in her eyes, he could almost believe in a fervent devotee of unfailing devotion to a kind of god. Mark remembered Ishiro Serizawa's words shortly before his death, saying that Godzilla was the key to the possible coexistence between humanity and the titans, like he was sort of divine figure. But for all the respect Mark had for Serizawa, he denied that such a superior force could exist.
_"I've heard enough for today." Mark sighed, shaking his head gently and rubbing his tired eyes. "We'll resume this discussion tomorrow."
Not hiding her frustration, Madison didn't say another word and got up to leave the tent, under her father's gaze. Josh was allowed to leave as well and was able to join Madison as she walked towards the exit of the camp, escorted by a guard. Seeing the young woman's look, Josh guessed that it had gone rather badly and preferred not to comment, contenting himself with following his friend. From the threshold of the tent, Mark watched them go, then took his talkie from his belt.
_"Follow my daughter and make sure she returns to the hotel." he ordered.
Madison, still silent and morose, sat in the passenger seat of the van, her eyes somber. Josh sat behind the wheel, hesitant at first but dared to ask a question.
_"So... what do we do now?"
At that moment, Madison felt her cell phone vibrate and saw that she had received a message from Bernie. The latter simply said "Join me. Urgent!" and this, with a precise location indicated. Knowing Bernie, deep down, Madie guessed that this was a sign indicating that he had done his investigation and discovered an interesting lead, like in the past with Apex and their monstrous mecha.
_"We have a new mission to accomplish." Madison simply replied, determined.
************
Still on the rocky island which had been completely charred by its radiation, Godzilla had decided to stop there, having curled up into a ball and now sleeping in a deep sleep, snoring loudly, before leaving again the next day. The area around the island having been strongly affected by the titan's radiation, Monarch's ships had to establish a surveillance perimeter at a very large distance. From the flagship's operations room, everyone closely monitored the sleeping titan, ready to act at the slightest suspicious movement.
But suddenly, a very strange, very rapid vibration, seeming to be emitted from the sky, crossed the entire perimeter in just a few seconds and on all the ships of the Monarch fleet, everyone without exception found themselves hypnotized, their gaze frozen straight ahead and motionless like statues in the positions they were currently in. All electrical appliances were also paralyzed.
Meanwhile, on the island, Godzilla opened his eyes, growling and blowing his nostrils as he stood up. He had sensed something unusual in the air. As soon as he stood up, his attention was drawn to the sky shrouded in stars. Slowly descending from the heights of the stars, the giant, metallic sphere appeared, vibrating the air around it and displaying these synthetic lights on its smooth walls. Immediately, Godzilla bared his teeth, growling ferociously at this thing he seemed to recognize. The giant sphere stopped several dozen meters above the island, overlooking the king of the monsters. Godzilla chose to react and spat out an atomic breath but which was deflected by the appearance of an energy field arising around the sphere and completely absorbing the radiation from the ray, much to Godzilla's frustration.
_"I see that despite the centuries, you have lost none of your combativeness, protector of the earth." then sounded a deep, powerful techno-organic voice from the unknown flying sphere. "The immortal emperor sends his most distinguished greetings to you, his most powerful enemy."
Godzilla listened to this voice, growling and roaring angrily.
_"What we inflicted on you was only a taste of what awaits you, king of the titans." the firm, non-human voice proclaimed again. "You knew how to defeat us during our first war, but the time for our revenge has come. Very soon, we will take what is rightfully ours and you will die, on your knees and in terror of our omnipotence. Such is the will of the emperor, such is his law."
With this official declaration of war, the immense flying sphere disappeared again into the immensity of the night and starry sky, leaving Godzilla to his growing fury. In the Monarch fleet, everyone had resumed their work, without being aware of having been frozen for a few minutes, and were even more than surprised to see that Godzilla was awake even though he was still asleep less than five seconds ago, at least, from their point of view.
Godzilla remained fuming, the desire to fight being all-consuming. His instinct had not deceived him. They were back, centuries after their first defeat against him, to finish what they had started. He also remembered what that entailed.
