Chapter One - Intruders
Teagan, Lili and Raelyn had saved up their money for years. They did every job they could get their hands on. Why, you might ask?
They wanted to see the infamous Godzilla.
In 2049 Godzilla had attacked Japan. Countless lives had been taken away by the monsters claws. It took months of dispair and torture within the walls of Japan for the US and Canadian army to finally pitch in and help to capture the beast.
Japan, despite watching helplessly as the monster destroyed their beloved home, had fallen in love with the beast. Instead of ending it's destructive life, or at least disabling it's movement, the Japanese government decided to drag it's unconscious body to a lab and perform painful experiments.
After they had tortured the research out of Godzilla, what did they do?
Drop it in a fibreglass case and display it to the public. Right.
Yet the three girls didn't mind that it wasn't the brightest idea, what mattered to them was seeing that monster in all of its encased glory.
After so many months, days, hours of hard and tiring work, the girls met up on a late Saturday night to count their earnings.
Raelyn and Lili huddled over Teagan, watching her quietly count the dollars.
"Well, what is it?" Raelyn asked impatiently.
"Shut up, you're gonna make her loose track!" Lili shushed Raelyn, who continued to glare at the many bills and coins.
"YES!" Teagan exclaimed, throwing her hands into the air- almost messing up the neat organization of the multicoloured money. Both of the girls stood up.
"Huh, what? What happened- do we have enough?" Raelyn asked, very eager. Teagan's face seemed to light up.
"We have enough! We need to buy our plane tickets now!" Teagan laughed.
Teagan, Lili, and Raelyn had the skill of scientists of a lower level. They had just received their Scientific degrees from a less expensive university and were desperately looking for a well-paying job.
The three did everything together, since they met in Grade 4. Sleepovers, biking trips, they even visited Disney World together. They all had their advantages and flaws, but together they were perfect.
Struggling past grade school, high school, and all the way into University had been tough. Through all of the drama, they stuck together all the way into their adult years, never letting go of their strong friendship. You could call them childhood friends, but that would be underestimating their bond.
Anyways, back to the story.
The next day, after a night of restless sleep, the girls had arrived in the airport. They hopped on their plane and slept through the long plane trip. Eventually, they were standing in the busy streets of Japan, suitcases in hand. They looked silly, sure, with their large smiles lighting up their faces, but they couldn't stop. They were finally in Japan!
"Come on, we have to go see Godzilla!" Raelyn cried, eager to see the monstrous beast.
"Wait, we should go eat all of the delicious foods! I want sushi!" Teagan exclaimed.
"We need to drop off our bags and go to our hotel... I'm tired..." Lili said drowsily.
They decided to go to the hotel- not because they were tired or cared about Lili's feelings, but because they didn't want to lug around all of their belongings.
Even after dropping off several bags, each of them still had two small ones. Why, you might ask? Those bags contained expensive research equipment they had stolen- I mean, borrowed, from their science schools.
Luckily, Lili had the address of the attraction so they were able to put it the numbers and head on their way. Without a card or much money for taxis- if they would be able to hail any- they had to walk the long and tiring walk of three hours to the encased beast.
When they arrived, they saw strips of yellow caution tape covering the large building, and two or three cops talking to a man in a white coat. They could barely hear the loud conversation, as they were slightly far away.
"What do you mean it's closed?! I'm a scientist, I work here!" The man in the white coat screamed, his face turning red and his veins bulging.
"Sir, our boss ordered us to keep everyone and everything out of this facility-" The police tried to explain. Somehow, they were speaking English- as was the man. At least the girls were able to understand.
"Who's your boss?! LET ME SPEAK TO THEM!" The man screamed, looking like a snake as his jaw seemed to unhinge.
Raelyn nudged Lili and Teagan. "Guys, they're distracted! Let's get it and see Godzilla!" Raelyn whispered, a mischievous look on her eyes. Teagan looked around and began to step over the tape, trying to keep in her laughter. Raelyn snickered.
"Wait, Teagan, we're going to get caught! Let's just... not?" Lili suggested. Raelyn rolled her eyes, still smiling.
"Don't be lazy Lili!" Raelyn laughed. Lili huffed and crawled under the tape.
"Hey, why couldn't I do that?!" Teagan asked no one in particular. Lili smirked and lightly poked Teagan.
"Because you're a giraffe!" Lili joked.
Raelyn looked around. "Hey... I think the cops se-"
"STOP! GET BACK HERE!" The police officers screamed, pointing to them. The girls looked over and saw the police officers dressed in navy blue running over to them, with one of them staying behind to escort the man away from the area.
"Quick, run!" Teagan cried, pushing Raelyn and Lili out of the way. Teagan was slightly faster than Lili, but Raelyn was slowly falling behind.
Teagan rounded the corner and pulled Lili inside the dark room. As Raelyn passed by, Teagan grabbed her shirt and yanked her inside, shutting the door. They listened in silence as the police ran by, occasionally screaming curses. The girls let out a breath of relief.
"Where are we?" Raelyn asked, fumbling around.
"I don't know... do you guys still have your bags?" Teagan asked, dragging her hands against the walls, searching for a light switch.
Lili knocked something over, and they heard glass shatter. "Shoot, that sounded expensive..." Lili mumbled.
"Found it!" Teagan cried, switching on the lights. One by one, the light bulbs glowed with a bright light, exposing the rooms contents. The girls looked around in awe.
"Wow! This stuff must be worth millions!" Raelyn exclaimed, her eyes darting across the room. There were tables and tables of expensive research equipment, from test tubes to power sources to containers of odd glowing liquids. Then, on the ground, was a shattered test tube.
"Oops..." Lili muttered, staring at the shards of broken glass on the floor.
Teagan ran her fingers lightly across the lab equipment.
"I've always wanted to have something like this. With all of this equipment, I could help solve disorders. People whose brains are damaged and can't function properly- like my brother. I could make their lives so much easier." Teagan said out of the blue. Raelyn and Lili turned to look at her.
"Same here." Raelyn started. "Ever since my mom died of a newfound disease they named 'Menthros' I've been determined to become a doctor or a scientist. I'd be able to save thousands if I were able to create a remedy for something like cancer. I'd make so many people happy..." Raelyn told the girls.
Lili nodded in sympathy. "There are so many people who are born blind or deaf. They have to deal with horrible problems both mentally and physically. I'm blind in one eye, and even that is a struggle for me. If I were to create a solution that could fix that- their lives could finally be whole again." Lili said.
The girls stood in silence after setting down their own equipment, carefully studying some of the notes. Lili found a chair and slumped down.
"Wait, guys, come look at this!" Teagan said, picking up an open notebook. Raelyn hurried over, and Lili reluctantly got up from her chair and stood on her tiptoes to peer over Teagan's shoulder. "What is it?" They asked.
"It says here that 'Godzilla is reacting in pain to Hilas.' What do you think that is?" Teagan asked.
Raelyn scanned the room. "Oh! There's a container with syringes labeled Hilas. That's probably it." Raelyn told them, picking up the container and bringing it to the group. She took them out and handed three to each of the girls. "Just in case." She said. The girls stuffed them in their pockets.
Teagan began to flip through the book, reading the scribbled notes. "...It's all about Godzilla... could this be the lab?" Teagan asked the group, looking up from the pages to take one more look at the lab they were in.
"Um... guys?" Raelyn said.
Teagan ignored Raelyn, still reading the notes, but Lili looked over.
"What on Earth?!" Lili exclaimed. Teagan glanced over.
There was a large glass case that was built into the wall, with a lizard-like print behind it. It covered the entire surface, and the case was very large.
"Who would want that ugly print in their lab?" Lili asked, smirking. She walked over. Teagan and Raelyn followed.
"It looks kind of creepy..." Raelyn said. Teagan nodded in agreement. Lili pushed Raelyn lightly.
"It's not scary, it's weird. Look." Lili said, tapping the glass forcefully. She turned her back to the case, looking at the girls.
Teagan paled and took a step back, shivering with fear. Raelyn grabbed Lili's shirt and tried to pull her away from the case. Lili shook her off.
"What the heck- what are you doing?!" Lili asked, looking at the girls confused.
"That's not a glass case- that's a window!" Teagan screamed.
Lili turned around and saw the same print behind the glass, except instead of the flat lizard pattern, a large glowing red eye stared back at her.
I hope you enjoyed my story so far! I'll try to update when I can!
