Yejoon nearly spit his drink out when he saw you. "You look like hell."
You raised an eyebrow at him. "Thank you, Yejoon. You really know how to boost a girl's confidence."
"I mean, you still look pretty if that helps, but you look exhausted." He said, exaggerating the last word.
"I am. You know what time my mother woke me up this morning? Five. Why? To make her and my dad breakfast."
He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and took another sip of his drink. "Maybe they're getting you ready to be part of the family business."
You nearly tripped over your own feet. "I hope not. That would be horrific."
"You'd be looked up to, Y/N. A role model."
"Yeah, I would, but I don't want to be in the family business."
He hummed in response and stopped in front of your classroom. "I guess it would kind of suck, huh? You're already so overworked as it is."
You scoffed. "Tell me about it."
"Anyways," he sighed. "I gotta get to class, but you should have the rest of this. You need it."
He pushed his iced coffee towards you and you took it, thanking your best friend as he walked off. You went into class and sat at your desk, taking several drinks of the sugary beverage before class started.
"Hey, Y/N."
You looked up and saw Hyunjin, your other best friend. "Hey, Hyunjin."
"You look tired. Everything okay?"
"Yeah. Just super busy, as always." You replied, smiling at him.
He smiled that smile that you adored. You met Hyunjin in elementary school, and since he was popular, even for a first grader, you thought he'd be super mean to you, but he was extremely sweet and he welcomed you to the school with a smile. You were both seniors now, and he was popular (and handsome) as ever, and you had recognition because of your family business (along with your sweet and caring nature and literal beauty from the gods themselves), and he was still nice to you and he had been one of the best friends you had, besides Yejoon of course.
"Alright class," your teacher started, pulling you from your thoughts. "Let's get started with today's lesson."
At the end of the day, you and Yejoon walked to your car. Usually after school, you guys hung out in each other's cars, just because neither one of you wanted to go home right away.
"Why do you think your mom's working you so hard?" He asked.
"I don't know. Maybe she's just getting lazy and thinks it's okay to make me her servant, so she doesn't have to do anything."
"At least your dad's got your back."
"True. If it weren't for him, I probably would've been used as a seat by now."
You leaned your head back against the window, looking through your windshield. You caught eyes with Hyunjin and he smiled, waving as he walked by to get to his car. You smiled and waved back, looking towards Yejoon again once Hyunjin was out of your sight.
"What?" You asked, seeing your best friend with a goofy smile on his face.
"He is so into you! How do you not see it?"
You rolled your eyes, a smile playing at your lips. "No, he's not, Yejoon. We've been best friends for as long as you and I have. It's normal to wave."
He shrugged and checked the time on his watch. "I should head home. Call me later!"
You nodded as he got out of your car, shutting the door. You blew kisses to each other as he walked away, something you guys did ever since you were children. Sighing, you put your car in reverse and backed out of your parking spot, heading home.
When you walked into your house, you attempted to get up the stairs quietly, but you were caught in your endeavors. "Y/N! Why are you home so late?"
"I was talking to Yejoon, so it took me a little longer to get home." You replied to your mother, keeping your composure.
"What you need to do around here is more important than him!" She yelled.
You nodded curtly before going up to your room, only to avoid arguing with her about how important Yejoon was. You threw your bag down and plopped onto your bed. Your mother was always getting onto you for the littlest things, even if it was for talking to your best friend. You were so grateful for your dad, since he was always helping you stand up for yourself. He understood that you needed to live your life, and he would rather you go to a party than be cooped up in the house to learn how to do paperwork.
You heard a small knock on your door and sat up, letting out a small 'come in'. Your dad walked in and smiled at you, ruffling your hair.
"How was your day, kiddo?" He asked.
"I was exhausted all day, but it was good." You told him truthfully.
"I'm sorry your mother woke you up so early. I told her that you needed your sleep but you know how she is."
"Stubborn?"
"I would say relentless... but, yeah." He laughed.
You smiled weakly and looked down at your fingers. "Thank you for always being there for me, Dad. I really appreciate it."
He pulled you into a hug and kissed the top of your head. "You're always gonna be my little girl, and I'll do anything to make sure you're happy."
You heard your door open a little bit and both of you looked up, seeing your mother. "Let's pause the father-daughter moment and get downstairs, yeah?"
She turned on her heels, while you and your dad looked at each other before getting up. You went downstairs and into the kitchen, sighing heavily as you sat at the table.
"Y/N," Your mother started. "We'll be hosting a banquet in a week. Some of the biggest companies around us will be at this event, so you need to dress your nicest. This is a very important gathering, because we will be announcing something about the company that is very important"
Your heart dropped for a moment, thinking about Yejoon's earlier comment. 'Maybe they're getting you ready to be part of the family business'. You brushed it off; your father wouldn't let that happen.
There was no way that you were the reason for the banquet.
