Labis na ikinabigla ni Davide ang kaalamang may kapatid si Janet. He was intrigued. Naghintay siya sa sasabihin ng mag-asawa. Inanyayahan siya ng mga ito sa sala. Nang makapuwesto ay mayroong nagsilbi ng maiinom.

Mr. Eusebio said, "My wife and I had a major decision to do back in the day. I got another woman pregnant. That daughter of mine never really became a part of the family. However, I've talked to her and she agreed to have me change all her papers so that I can adopt her."

Hindi alam ni Davide kung ano ang sasabihin. Anong kalokohan ito? "I would have to ask my parents about this situation, Tito."

"Of course. But try to remember that it was your brother who was originally supposed to marry our Janet."

Nabuwisit si Davide pero pinanatiling kalmado ang sarili. How dare this man bring that up? Like he was a lousy substitute. A lousy substitute for their daughter who not only slept around but was not even smart enough to be discreet about her affairs with married men. They were acting as if Janet was a prize catch.

"Very well." Tumayo na siya at nagpaalam.

Tumuloy siya sa bahay ng magulang at sinabi sa dalawa ang balita. Akala niya ay magagalit ang kanyang ama pero sinabi nito, "That's just as well. Janet is not a very reputable person."

Ganoon pala katindi ang mga balita. He wondered which among the rumors his father heard. Probably the one about Janet causing an old couple's marriage to end rather scandalously.

"We need to make sure the documents check out. Meanwhile, why don't we meet this other daughter."

Tumango siya. At least the situation became a little bit more interesting. He just hoped the other daughter was at the very least pleasing to the eyes.
