Life and Death
I know it's been a really long time, but I had so much work to do with university, but now I am back to finally write ending of this story. I apologize for the delay.
Please enjoy reading, I hope you will love it. I want to thank everyone for the support I have been getting from my readers, you are all amazing!
Now let's move on with the story!
Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved. The land of Norway was covered in a crimson blood of those who were proving their loyalty to their gods, their lands and masters. Refuse to lose, to be defeated, refuse to have any regrets and you may earn your place in Valhalla among with the Gods.
The screams of dying soldiers echoed through the air and Valkyries flew above them looking for the souls of those who didn't survive the battle. The Gods were watching as their tears were falling from the sky for those who died, washing away all the blood from the ground.
Ivar the Boneless fought as hard as his legs were allowing him, his life didn't matter to him, everything he wanted was to make sure that his wife and child had a safe life, here at their home, and that nobody will do anything to harm them.
"VALHALLA IS WAITING FOR US MY FRIENDS! WE MUST FIGHT FOR IT!" Ivar shouted throwing his ax into a poor English man. His face covered in blood, looking almost unhuman, like he was a devil himself and not a man at all. He was fighting with the powerful Vikings right by his side, they were not afraid of anything. His eyes traveled around the battlefield, looking for particular someone, whose death could end everything.
"BROTHER! COME OVER HERE AND END THIS!" Ivar yelled, but his brother was beside the English soldiers fighting Vikings, who once used to be his people, now he was fighting by the side of those who worshiped false God, and Vikings felt betrayed by the son of Ragnar.
Brynhildr stood and watched as the battle was deciding her fate and fate of her family, the smell of the blood made her feel almost sick as the rain covered her hair and made her shiver. Everything she could do was stand there with a sword in her arms and pray that Ivar is still alive, prayed that they will both survive this and the child in her will remain safe.
Все будет хорошо, сын мой, я обещаю тебе, что." Brynhildr whispered softly as she touched her belly as the salty tear rolled down her cheek.
"My queen, Englishman are breaking trough." One of the Vikings said as walked over to the queen who held the sword in her hand more tightly.
"Then we must fight." Brynhildr smiled slightly. "Don't be scared my son, you are going to fight so many battles in the future, this is just one of them." Brynhildr whispered touching her belly for the last time before taking a shield in her hands. She knew that sooner or later the soldiers will come here and that she will have to protect those who cannot fight, and she knew that she wasn't one of them, Brynhildr felt strong enough to do anything.
"Odin will protect us! Don't you be afraid!" Brynhildr yelled to the soldiers as they were preparing for the strike of an English army.
Soon Bjorn with army of English soldiers broke trough and he was there face to face with Brynhildr.
"We meet again, did you really think I will allow you and Ivar to rule Kattegat??" Bjorn asked.
"I allowed you to live Bjorn Ironside, and Ivar helped you escape. I made a promise to Ragnar Lothbrok that I will not send his sons to Valhalla, and I have been trying so hard to keep that promise, but you...You want to die so badly." Brynhildr said.
"Don't you dare to speak about my father! This is his legacy! Ivar is the one that should have died a long time ago! Give up Brynhildr! I don't want to fight a pregnant woman!" Bjorn said.
Brynhildr laughed.
"Why? Are you still afraid of me Bjorn?" Brynhildr asked provoking her enemy.
"You will not fight my wife brother, you are going to fight me." Ivar said as he came with Hvitserk by his side.
"Put down the sword love, let me end this war." Ivar said to his wife.
"It doesn't have to end like this Bjorn." Hvitserk said.
"I am sorry Hvitserk, but you don't deserve to lie either after murdering my mother. I can't leave my father's legacy in hands of those who have such a blood on them." Bjorn answered.
"But if you kill us, you will not be a hero, you will still be nothing, Bjorn, the one who came with our sworn enemy, to attack his own people. Is that how you protect our father's legacy? Don't wory, it's safe with me." Ivar said.
"I am his eldest son!" Bjorn yelled in anger.
"But you all left him come to England alone, I am the only one that followed him." Ivar said.
"He asked you the last Ivar." Bjorn said.
"Because he knew that you will all turn him down." Ivar answered and Bjorn remained silent for a moment.
"What is it going to be brother? I am offering you life." Ivar said.
"Ivar you can't fight him." Brynhildr warned him.
"I am a God, I can do anything." Ivar assured her.
"You are a fool Ivar!" Bjorn yelled and attacked Ivar with his sword.
What happened next, shocked everyone, and became a song for Vikings and Nordic culture that echoed trough many centuries.
The song of wrath and love of brothers, that couldn't live in peace until one of them is dead. But the one who died, was the the most innocent of them all.
Before Bjorn could stab Ivar with his sword and ended his life forever, Hvitserk run between them and took a sword in his chest.
"HVITSERK!" Brynhildr painfully yelled his name as her voice was breaking, she promised to Ragnar, and she was ready to break her promise to him, but she wasn't ready for the death of Hvitserk, the one who was the most innocent of all the brothers, the one who deserved happier life, the family, the one who promised that he will be the best uncle to her child.
"Brother!" Ivar yelled as he threw his sword on the ground and he gently placed Hvitser'k trembling body on the ground.
"Hvitserk I..." Bjorn started talking but Hvitserk cut him off.
"It is alright brother. I am going to Valhalla to see our parents, and to see Tora, I am going to be happy." Hvitserk said with a weak voice.
"Don't speak like that! You are not going to die!" Brynhildr said trough the tears as she was pressing his bloody wound.
"No Brynhildr." Hvitserk said as he touched her hand. "This is how it should be, Bjorn has his revenge, and maybe like this I ended war, maybe there should be no more deaths..." Hvitserk said and looked Bjorn.
"Englishman will retreat. I promise." Bjorn said as he took hand of his brother in his.
Ivar trembled with sadness and anger, his hearth was broken once again by the death of his brother, that died so they could live in peace.
"Ivar, don't avenge me, I forgive you for Thora, be a good father, I know you can do that." Hvitserk said as he coughed the blood from his lips.
"I can see them, the Valkyries, they are so beautiful." Hvitserk said as he was closing his eyes that were tired but still full of life, the life that was slowly fading away.
The battle stopped.
The whole world stopped and wiped for the death of Hvitserk Ragnarsson.
That night, the Vikings and the English people shoot fire arrows together at the ship that carried Hvitserk to Valhalla.
No more blood was spilled for the cold throne.
The days passed, and the months as well, the happier times came after such a bloodshed that destroyed the lives of so many people in Norway, some of them left scarred for their entire life, the death, the trauma, something they were used to, but it still was able to break them little by little...
Bjorn left the Norway, he took a ships and went to travel after he bent his knee and swore upon his arm ring that he will be loyal to Ivar The Boneless and Brynhildr the White Queen until the rest of his life or he will never enter the Valhalla. His reign was over, and he promised to the brother whose life he took, that this will be the end.
The circle of death and revenge will stop among the family.
Ubbe have done the same as soon as he arrived to the Kattgat with his wife Trovi.
Now Ivar and Brynhildr were supported by the family.
Hvitserk was dead, but he was still with them, not only in their hearts and minds as a memory.
Brynhildr had a son, and she named him Hvitserk, after the one who gave his life so they could finally live in peace.
Brynhildr and Ivar had many children after Hvitserk, and they teach each of their children not to make the same mistake as they did.
They ruled for a long time.
Once cold and ruthless they became the most loved King and Queen of Norway.
The end.
Все будет хорошо, сын мой, я обещаю тебе, что.-Vsyo budet horosho jsin moy, ya obeshayu tebye shto.-Everything will be alright my son, I promise you that.
