England
"What about Bjorn?" Ivar asked. Immediately he felt that the eldest son of Ragnar is not going to accept the end of his reign so easily. Bjorn believed so blindly that he should be the one to keep Ragnar's legacy and that is why Ivar will never be able to rule in peace while Bjorn is still alive.
"Come, I don't want to worry Brynhildr about unnecessary things such as stupidity of our brother." Ivar said pulling Hvitserk away from others. They sat alone in the corner and Ivar took another sip of ale from his horn.
"He left Kiev about a year ago with his wives. Prince Igor didn't think that he should keep them as a prisoners. The word spread that he is in England now and that he went to King Alfred and asked him for help to take back Kattegat from Brynhildr. I don't know what are their plans and how big army do they have but England grew much stronger with King Alfred on the throne." Hvitserk said.
"So here we go. Another war. I was just thinking that the things were becoming too good and too happy to be truth." Ivar said.
"I congratulate you on your marriage and that you are going to become a father but we must prepare for this and keep Brynhildr safe now when she is with child." Hvitserk answered.
"Safe? Of course that she will ne safe! I don't want to her to feel any wrath of war anymore. She had enough of it. We will kill both Bjorn and King Alfred." Ivar said determined to keep his queen safe and their child as well.
Brynhildr stood in the dark corner, carefully listening to their conversation. Another war was coming, another conquer was coming at them and now she had so much more to lose then she ever had before.
"You don't understand Ivar. Alfred is smart and unpredictable. He is just like you!" Hvitserk said
"Nobody is like my husband." Brynhildr said as she emerged from the corner where she was standing.
Hvitserk looked at her and sighed.
"I guess I can't hide anything from my wife." Ivar said.
"Of course you can't. Who do you think I am? I am still a Queen. I deserve to know when my kingdom is in danger. And I don't think the war should be left only in the hands of man." Brynhildr said.
"Of course not..." Hvitserk said feeling almost ashamed from trying to hide anything from her.
"Now when we agreed to that fact, I want to find out as much as it is possible about Kingdom of England and about their king. I will also send word to King Igor to help us if it's necessary." Brynhildr said.
"Look at you. Already thinking about war tactics on your wedding night. I think we should be doing something else to make the night special..." Ivar said with a smirk on his face and Brynhildr's cheeks went pink instantly.
"How incredibly romantic you are." She said with sarcasm in her voice.
"I don't want to interrupt you, I simply wanted to warn you about the upcoming attacks. But as soon as the word about the fact that our Queen doesn't possess any more godlike abilities, they will probably come at us." Hvitserk said.
"Who said she isn't godlike anymore?" Ivar asked and touched hand of Brynhildr.
"I have no doubts about any of you. All I am saying is that we must be careful with this enemy." Hvitserk said
"They are not familiar with our territory yet, even if they have Bjorn with them and when they come we will be ready." Brynhildr said.
"I will set the scouts on every part of the shore so they will know if someone is coming. It surprises me that Ubbe is not with Bjorn " Ivar said.
"He is still exploring the New land where Floki is." Hvitserk said.
Ivar though a bit, as soon as this war is finished, he will try to visit the land Floki was speaking about as well. He missed that man, Floki was like a second father to him, after all he raised him and made him a man he is today.
"Do you think that Bjorn must die?" Hvitserk asked and Ivar suddenly stopped thinking about Floki and Ubbe.
That was another question he didn't want to answer. Killing another of his brothers, would break his heart, just like it did when he killed Sigurd, but it was obvious that there was no other way.
"Don't worry about it Hvitserk. It's our wedding, drink, have fun, tomorrow when you get sober we shall speak about this." Brynhildr said with a small smile on her face.
"Skol." Hvitserk said and raised his horn filled with ale.
But far away from the Vikings, across the ocean, in the castle pf England King Alfred was sitting with son of Ragnar discussing the the same subject. Taking the Kattegat from a devil-like man, a crippled King. King Alfred already meet Ivar once, and he knew his wrath, he knew that Ivar is a dangerous and unpredictable man.
"Ivar is not a God. Neither is his Queen. They are a people made of flesh and bone. They both bleed when they are cut. I promise you Bjorn Ironside, together we can take your Kingdom back." Alfred said to his friend.
Bjorn was grateful for everything King Alfred done for him, and his family when Ivar defeated them previously. And now here was he, again, searching for help, but he had no other choice, he wasn't going to allow Ivar to rule. Not anymore.
"I am very ashamed of myself for coming to you after my brother defeated me for the second time and took everything from me. But I knew that only you can help me now." Bjorn said.
"I understand you Bjorn. You are an ambitious man. You deserve to be a king just like Ragnar did."
"But you didn't see what that woman was capable of. I am telling you the truth." Bjorn said but Alfred still refused to believe that one woman could posses something that he considered supernatural, after all in his heart and soul he gave himself to Christianity, just like his father did.
"I am not sending my people to death, but I will still be careful with my enemy. The army will be prepared soon and we will sail to Norway. I believe that we are going to surprise them with our attack" Alfred said.
"I don't think that Ivar will allow himself to be surprised. When are you planning to attack?" Bjorn asked.
"When I am sure that the enteral winter you were speaking about is over. My man are not used to it. I am going to send a few man to look at the territory and when they come back and tell us the news, we are going to attack." Alfred said and then looked at Bjorn again.
" Are you sure in your heart that you want your youngest brother dead?" Alfred asked.
"Yes. He escaped death enough times ans brought enough troubles upon me. He shall be sent to Valhalla." Bjorn said.
"And what about Brynhildr?"
That name stung him in his heart. Bjorn still had an obsession when it came to that woman. If only she choose him over his crippled brother, together the two of them could do an amazing things but like this, she shall have a different fate. But still Brynhildr was going to be his, he wanted that woman, and he was going to have her.
"I want her alive."
