Chapter 23: Food Fight!

A/N: Hey, sorry for not updating in 3 weeks and disappearing off the face of the earth. But anyway, if you can at the end or right here please put 2 things you like about this book and three things that could use some work. Be completely honest, I want to know what I need to work on and what is ok. That's all, enjoy the chapter.

Steve's POV
"Has anyone seen Tony?" I ask as I walk into the kitchen.

Everyone mumbles some sort of 'no', which only makes me worried. We haven't seen Tony since yesterday when he left to pick Percy up. FRIDAY told us that he locked himself in his lab after he came back.

"Steve, I know you're worried but give him time," Natasha says. "He just lost his best friend."

"Isolating himself won't help," I protest.

"We know Steve, but he needs time. What did you do when you thought I was dead?" Bucky counters.

I sigh in defeat, knowing they're right, and start to make breakfast. Normally the kitchen is very loud in the mornings, with Bucky and Sam trying to kill each other, and Tony making something explode and Loki and Wanda making everything float, and Clint trying to shoot said things from his spot on top of the fridge, etc. In other words, it's very lively.

But today is different, everyone is quiet and actually sitting on the chairs. No chaos or laughter today, just mourning. Because we lost Sally too. We didn't know her for long, but she became one of us within five minutes of meeting her. I mean sure, the pranks got way worse when she was around, but at the same time, she could establish order. Hey, she had that mom glare. Defying a mom glare is suicide.

We all eat in silence and once we're done we leave to do something. I start to head to Tony's lab but Pepper stops me.

"Steve, I know you're worried about him, I am too. But he needs some space and time," she says, placing a hand on my shoulder. "He just lost his best friend."

"I know that Pepper, but he hasn't eaten in twelve hours and I know what he can do if he's left alone in his lab too long," I counter. "I'll give him all the space he needs, but I need to make sure he's not starving himself. I'm just going to bring him breakfast."

She sighs in defeat and lets me go. I start walking down the halls again but then I bump into Peter.

"Hey Mr. Rogers!" he greets. "Where are you going?"

"I'm just going to bring Tony some breakfast, he hasn't eaten since yesterday," I explain, gesturing to the plate full of food in my hands.

"Cool! I was just about to do something just like that! I'm bringing Percy some of my Aunt May's 'Cheer up Pancakes'!" He explains, holding up a plate of warm pancakes.

I give him a small smile. "Thanks really nice of you kid, but he just lost his mother and stepfather, give him space if he asks for it."

"I know Mr. Rogers, I know what he's going through," he says. His smile dims for a millisecond before returning to its normal sunshiny state.

We part ways and I finally reach Tony's lab. I'm about to knock on the door when I hear something explode inside the lab, followed by some angry Greek swearing.

I knock on the door. "Tony? You ok in there?"

"Ummmm, yeah suuuuuure. I'm toooootally fine," he answers from inside.

Yeah, he's definitely not fine. "I'm coming in!" I say before pushing open the door.

The lab is a mess. And that's saying something. Tools and failed experiments are littered everywhere. Papers are scattered all over the lab. Even Dum-E is hiding in the corner. But the worst of all is Tony.

His hair is disheveled like he just rolled out of bed. And the bags under his eyes are big enough to carry your groceries. He didn't even change his clothes, his once-pristine suit now has grease stains all over it.

He sees me and gives me a lazy smile. "Heyyyy Steveeee," he slurs, "what are you doing all the way down here?"

He stumbles over to me and trips over a stack of papers. He falls face-first into the ground and the papers fly everywhere. I set the plate in my hands down and rush over to him. I pick him up bridal style and the instant I do, my nose stings with the strong smell of alcohol.

"Oh gosh, Tony," I mumble. "You've been drinking again, haven't you?"

He smirks at me. "Mayyybe, mayyybe not," he slurs.

I sigh and carry him to his room. I drop him on the bed and rush to the kitchen. I come back with a glass of water and some aspirin. And surprisingly Tony's in the same spot I left him. I was worried that he'd stumble back to his lab.

"Steeeeve! You're back!" Tony exclaims before falling off the bed.

I sigh for the hundredth time today before picking him up and placing up back on the bed. He pouts and cries like a little baby but I ignore it. I gently take off his shoes, along with his tie and blazer. Then I tuck him in and by that time he's already fast asleep.

I gently smile at his sleeping form and whisper, "Sweet dreams, son."

*~The next day~*

"Hey FRIDAY," I ask as I walk down the hall, "has Tony woken up yet?"

"Not yet, Captain, he's been asleep all night," she answers.

          "Ok, thanks FRIDAY."

          "No problem."

That man is going to have one killer hangover once he wakes up. He has a high alcohol tolerance, so if he gets drunk that means he drank a lot. Which he did. After I tucked him in last night, I went to his lab and cleaned it up a bit. I organized his papers and his tools, put all the experiments away, and threw away all the alcohol. Now I am going to make Tony some breakfast.

I reach the kitchen and as I'm cooking, my mind drifts to Tony's godson, Percy. None of us has met him yet, except Peter. Well, Bruce, Pepper, and Rhodes knew him already but that's not important. Anyway, Peter told us that Percy was coping well and he wasn't in danger of doing anything reckless. So that's good news.

But I can't help but feel a bit sorry for the kid, I mean not only did he lose his parents but he literally went to hell and had amnesia and has fought in two wars in his 16 years of life. That's more than all the Avengers have been through combined. I don't blame him if he wants to be alone for a while. But I guess he didn't want to be alone.

Because the next thing I hear is a new voice saying, "Ummm, do you mind if I join you for breakfast?"

We all turn around to see a kid with raven hair and sea-green eyes standing nervously at the doorway. He was still in pajamas and his hair was messy, but he radiated literal power, like Loki and Thor. And we just stare at him for a while, processing the fact that Percy came to us first. Peter is the first to snap out of it.

"Of course Percy!" Peter exclaims, scrambling over to him. "Make yourself at home."

Percy gives him a small smile. "Thanks, Peter. And ummm, hi everyone."

"Percy!" Bruce says, enveloping him in a hug. "How are you feeling?"

Percy returns the hug and says, "I'm getting better."

Bruce pats him on the back. "That's good to hear."

Percy says hi to Rhodes and Pepper, and then he turns to the rest of us.

"Hi, I'm Percy. I'm Tony's godson. It's very nice to finally meet you," he greets nervously.

Bucky gives him a big smile and holds out his hand for Percy to shake. "It's good to meet you too Percy. We've been hearing a lot about you."

Percy shakes his hand and replies, "I can say the same, Mr. Barnes."

"Please, call me Bucky and this is my best friend Steve," Bucky motions towards me.

I wipe my hands on my apron and walk towards them. "Nice to meet you kid, and my name is, like he said, Steve."

"Nice to meet you too, Steve," Percy says with a smile.

"Steve's also Tony's mom!" Natasha interjects, causing everyone to fall into a fit of giggles.

A small blush creeps onto my face. "I'm not his mom. I just worry about him, that's all."

"Yeah, like a mom," Bucky says as he pats my shoulder. "You can't deny it, Steve."

I stay silent for a moment before answering, "Ok yeah maybe a little bit-"

Sam cuts me off. "Guys! He admitted it! I repeat: he admitted it! He's Tony's mom!"

"Oh shut up," I say as I give Sam a small glare. "Now, what kind of pancakes do you want, Percy?"

"Blueberry please," he replies. "If you don't mind."

"No problem, Percy," I say with a smile. "Make yourself at home and if any of these kids cause you any trouble, let me know."

He returns the smile and responds, "Will do, thanks."

Percy's POV

"Make yourself at home and if any of these kids cause you any trouble, let me know," Steve says with a smile.

I return the smile and say, "Will do, thanks."

I awkwardly take a seat between Bruce and Peter, and everyone sets their eyes on me. I know they don't want to be rude but I can't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. I never like when people stare at me, it makes me feel vulnerable, exposed. Against my usual nature, I decide to break the silence and start a conversation. I mean, I'm going to be living here, I want to get to know my roommates.

I turn to Miss Romanoff and say, "Um, Miss Romanoff, can I ask you a question?"

"You just did, kiddo," she says with a smirk, but before I can reply she continues, "I'm just joking, Percy, of course, you can. And please, call me Natasha."

"Ok um, why did you say that Steve was Tony's mom? His mom is Aphrodite," I ask. The people around me snicker, which makes me even more confused.

But Natasha smiles at me and answers, "Well, it's because the fossil here worries about the drama queen like he was his mom. But he's also our mom so it's cool."

But Bucky interjects and says, "I honestly don't know how he became your mom because the Steve I know is a reckless, impulsive little punk with 'I can do this all day' as his middle name."

This earns him a pancake batter bomb from Steve. Everyone freezes as the batter drips off Bucky's hair. Even I do, I mean Bucky is a super soldier, ex-assassin, and an Avenger. He's not someone you want on your bad side.

But Steve simply shrugs and says, "The jerk deserved it."

Bucky wipes the batter off his hair before grabbing Mr. Wilson's cereal bowl and dumping it on Steve's head (despite his protests). We all gasp and Steve freezes. He then grabs a pancake and throws it at Bucky, but he dodges and lands on Natasha's face.

This time we all freeze out of pure fear. Steve's eyes go as wide as dinner plates as he realizes what he just did. I look at Natasha as she just lets the pancake slide off her face. Her face is emotionless as she watches it fall.

"Natasha I- I'm sorry," he stutters.

I gulp, unsure of what to expect. And also wondering if this is a daily occurrence. But then she abruptly stands, grabs Rhodey's orange juice, and spills it all over Steve.

She gives him a fake smile and says, "Oops, I'm sorry. It slipped."

He growls and he throws another pancake at her but he misses again and it hits Mr.Wilson. Then Mr. Wilson throws his spoon at Steve but it hits Bucky instead.

That's when Peter stands up on his chair and yells, "FOOD FIGHT!" And the war begins.

Bruce throws his toast at me but I catch it (somehow) and throw it at him instead. It lands square on his face and he stumbles. Peter throws his Eggo at me but I grab a plate and block it. Then a piece of bacon flies at me from my right and I duck and roll behind the kitchen counter. I grab the fruit basket and start to headshot everyone.

But then I feel someone crack an egg on my head and I turn to see that no one's there. I look around the kitchen and see Mr. Maximoff wink at me from across the kitchen before disappearing in a blur and I suddenly feel another egg being cracked on my head. I smirk as I will the water from the sink to rise and land on his head.

He gasps in surprise as the cold water is dumped on his head and I laugh as fruits, vegetables, and pancakes zoom by my head. But then I feel someone on my right and I grab a pear from the fruit basket and aim it at them. It's just Peter.

But before I can throw the fruit, he holds up his hands in surrender and shouts, "I come in peace! I want a truce!"

I lower the pear. "Ok, I'm listening."

          "Let's team up!" he exclaims.

I tilt my head to the side. "Huh?"

"Y'know, team up! We don't attack each other but we attack everyone else as a team!" he explains.

I think about it for a second before replying, "Let's show these grandpas how it's done."

He smirks and he creates a slingshot with his webs. I load a pear in it and we launch it at Steve. Then we shoot Natasha, and Bucky, and Bruce and we keep doing it until we run out of fruit. But then we grab a box of cereal and make cereal grenades.

And I laugh, real genuine laugh. Not because I'm inflicting cereal-based terror (ok that's part of the reason) but because I haven't felt this good in a while. I haven't had real, actual fun. But now that I am it feels amazing!

And for the rest of the morning, we all just have one epic food fight. And I forget about all my troubles.

Tony's POV

          ...

          My head hurts.

          My heart hurts too.

          Everything hurts.

I'll just sleep and skip today.

         Sorry folks, until next time.
