2 | Reckless, yes! But, Caring
All faces frowned, heads rose up, and eyes followed the figure moving closer to them. It made its appearance into the light, and they all recognized who that was. A man with black robes and greasy hair and a crooked nose but what gave him away was the permanent sneer on his face that he was probably born with.
Just a perfect way to continue his day, Sirius huffed rolling his eyes. He just couldn't stand being in the same place with that person and was about to act on impulse. Whatever Sirius was planning to do was stopped by a warning hand on his shoulder. It was Remus.
Although Remus himself was immensely mad at this man as well, especially after he terminated the Occlumency lessons, he was always better in controlling his temper.
"So, to what do we owe the pleasure, Snape?" said Remus, gritting his teeth and with as much sarcasm as he could master. But Sirius didn't miss the undertone of coldness in his voice that could have been missed if one didn't know Remus as much as Sirius did.
"It's come to my attention that Potter is on a rescue mission, a fake one, by the time we are speaking, now; he could get himself and his friends killed," said Snape calmly and with remarkable ease, but his signature sneer was still there.
This was enough to have everyone on the edge, but not as much as Sirius. Worry and panic were rotating around them in the silence of the air. Their thoughts were even contagious and echoed to their surroundings as the chairs looked worn out and the curtains were anxious and out of breath and the carpet was dead under their feet. Identical shocked faces were looking at Snape, childishly asking him to stop this cruel joke, if that's what it was.
Snape continued with a sneer, "he was under the delusion that the Dark Lord has captured his precious godfather. And just as the arrogant person he is, he thinks he can go ahead and save him"
Snape's lips curled into a smirk when he saw Remus clenching his fist. Registering the dark pools of horror and the badly constrained fury that mingled on the werewolf's face, Snape was satisfied.
** I swear to Merlin, the next few lines are in Snape's POV).
Snape was kind of enjoying this, a sensation he hadn't felt in years; for some reason, he felt satisfied upon the look on the face of his old enemy, Sirius Black.. it was one of pure pain and guilt that made him incapable of speech.
But still, Snape knew deep within that he had to do this, he had to warn them... so that they could save the boy from his own foolishness. Even though he would never admit it out loud, not even to himself, but he knew he cared for the boy; not for the boy himself as a person of course, but at least for Her, for Lily.
For Lily! the one and only woman he secretly loved and knew all too well that his love was not returned.
**
They were all driven away from their own intrusive thoughts by the voice of Mad-Eye Moody, demanding some answers, "how did you know about his plans? What do you mean he was under the delusion?"
Snape answered "the Dark Lord installed this--false--vision in his mind with complete ease, as it was already vulnerable. As for your other question---"
Snape was cut off in mid-sentence and thrown to the wall with remarkable force. Snape was taken by surprise that he didn't have any time to act, not to mention, to think. It was an act that surprised everyone in the room, especially because of the person it came from.
When Snape opened his eyes again, he was shocked to say the very least, as he made eye-contact with none other than the calm and rational werewolf, but as for now he was far from that. This venomous glare was something he had never experienced or seen before from him. Snape definitely didn't expect that nor was he ready for what would come next.
"This is all because of YOU. If you hadn't stopped these Occlumency lessons, even though you knew how important they were, we wouldn't be in this situation now. He wouldn't have had these visions in the first place, he wouldn't have endangered himself for something that isn't real."
Remus saw only Red in front him, and for the first time, he wanted to really hurt Snivellus. It became crystal clear to everyone that when it comes to Harry and his safety, Remus can get wild, shutting down the rational part of his brain.
He was stopped by Tonks, placing a hand on his shoulder and by the meaning behind her words. "Remus, this isn't the right time for this. We need to find Harry and help him, now, before it is too late; this is what Harry really needs from you now."
He looked up at her, his deadly glare softened, and slowly he loosened his deathly grip on Snape's robes.
Snape composed himself, straightening his robes, and took his way out, but he was stopped by Arthur who demanded to know where Harry was. Snape replied shortly, "at the place where it is hidden." With a curt nod, he started walking towards the door again, until---
"WAIT.." Sirius snapped with as much venom as possible, as he finally found his voice again.
"If anything happens to him, killing you, as well as all your precious Death-eater friends, won't be enough for me." The Black heir spoke in a low dangerous voice.
His pain was reflected through the rage and madness evident in the depth of his eyes. It was way beyond a schoolboy grudge; this time it was for a real cause, it was for Harry, for the safety of his godson, and if that wasn't a good enough reason, he didn't know what could be.
Snape was reminded of the cruelty and the influence of power of the Black family. Even though they had a two-way relationship of mutual hatred and despise, there is no doubt Sirius inherited some qualities from his parents, such as the infamous Black temper.
Although Snape wouldn't dare mentioning it out loud, there was a flicker of fear inside of him. Without a single word, he led his way out, for the last time, after casting a final look at the occupants of the room.
Sirius looked around, running a frustrated hand through the curls of his shoulder-lengthed hair. "Uhm.. so what is the plan? And please make up a quick one," He said, breathing heavily as though he ran a 100 mile. It seemed as if every single word was causing him more pain.
They were all looking at each other, not knowing the best way to answer this question. "We'll have to notify Dumbledore and go there as soon as possible," Kingsley's deep voice broke the momentary silence, to which they all nodded in agreement.
"Then, come on," exclaimed Sirius, moving forward before being stopped by none other than his only remaining best-friend, Remus.
"No, not you. You can't go anywhere." Sirius was baffled, staring at Remus as though he had grown an extra head. "There is a massive probability that you would get chopped back to Azkaban again," said Remus, not looking forward to lose his friend again.
Tonks' gaze pinponged from Sirius to Remus, anticipating an explosion of some kind. She took a few steps forward and backed Remus' words, "Besides, uhm.. we need someone here to notify Dumbledore when he arrives."
Sirius looked at her coldly and raised an eyebrow. She seemed to realize her mistake and tried to make up for it, pleading a bit more softly, "and we'll bring Harry back to safety, I promise. Sirius, please, just stay here."
Sirius didn't miss that desperate tone. He understood her worry and was even grateful for it, but that didn't mean he agreed with her, not one little bit.
Sirius raised his voice, not to shout at them as they could have guessed, but to call for Kreacher. When the elf made an immediate appearance, Sirius ordered him to notify Dumbledore with what happened and what they were up to. He waited till the elf nodded its head and disappeared with a pop. "Problem solved, then. Could we get going now?"
Remus shook his head and closed his eyes for a moment, "Sirius, this is just.. not done."
Out of pure frustration, Sirius lost his temper as he should have done from the very beginning, "Do you honestly think I could bear do nothing? I am his godfather, his rightful guardian; it's time to act on it. I'll do whatever it takes to protect him. I don't even really care if I am sent back to that hell of a prison, for this. You-you should know better, Remus. Besides, James would have wanted me to go for his aid. And I am doing it, no matter what."
Sirius wanted to shake them to get some sense into them. They didn't understand what it's like. All of this talking was a waste of time. Harry, by this very moment, was in grave danger... he could be tortured or worse, No he wouldn't die, he couldn't.
He was ripped apart by the fear of the all-same hideous possibilities and images of his godson's suffering. Sirius had to be there for him, now.
This was the best time to make use of his great stubbornness. No matter what they could come up with, they wouldn't convince a godfather to just do nothing when his godson needed him the most. Especially when that godfather is Sirius Black who always took the word stubbornness to its extreme, they just couldn't.
Remus nodded reluctantly, in spite of his better judgment. Deep down, he knew Sirius was doing the right thing, for Harry. Remus hoped that, for once, everything would go as planned without any major loss or further suffering. He just couldn't bear losing any of those he truly cared for, not anymore.
Sirius realized, now more than ever, the real meaning of how he truly cares more about Harry's life than his own safety, just like a father would feel toward his son.
Upon getting ready--for the battle awaiting-- in fascinating speed, Sirius made a promise to himself that no one will ever lay a finger on Harry, as long as he is alive. He'll be there for his godson till his dying breath.
This is how I personally think they all would've reacted. I would like to hear if you think any of them could have reacted any differently. Or whether you agree with me.
Hope you enjoyed reading it, as I enjoyed writing it!
Stay tuned for the next chapter soon.
Just want to add that Sirius pushing Snape wouldn't have added much, since we already know that he cares for Harry. But the rational Remus doing it would highlight the fact that he was really, really pissed... and how much he, as well, cares about Harry's safety, something we as readers didn't see as much in canon. And now, Remus exploded after bottling up for so long... like BOOM!
