Ch 4: Show and Tell
"I present the sher-ime" Teri said as she held the shrine up for her kindergarten class to see. Her fellow kindergarteners were all captivated by the shrine. It is not every day that a kindergartener comes in with a new toy.
"And our class' all mighty beast shall guard it," Teri announced. The kindergartener began to scream and jump around. Why you ask? Well, they don't really know either. A new toy was brought in and the owner of the said toy was making a big deal about it.
While the class was doing the beast guarding ritual unsupervised, Monica was having a conversation with her childhood best friend and kindergartener class teacher Courtney. Monica and Courtney go way back. Back in high school the girls bonded over being in band class and on the color guard team.
"Girl, I supported you in all your breakups. I supported you in adopting your half-sister. I do not support you in taking in a random homeless guy off the street." Courtney lectured.
"The small priestess is currently holding my temple. With the proper love, it will grow." Elliotes said.
"A homeless guy on drugs." Courtney added.
Monica let out a nervous laugh. Of course, the story was unbelievable. No one is going to believe that Elliotes was a God. With every religion out there, none of them has him in it. It is like he doesn't exist.
Monica sees him though. She knows he is a real God because she saw it firsthand. The wings, the magic, it is all real. "I just need you to babysit him. He is difficult and has this weird attachment to my daughter."
"More of the reason to get rid of him."
Elliotes just watched as the two girls were in a deep conversation about him. There was nothing to really add on. He was homeless, his brother threw him out. Literally. Also, he must protect Teri because she is the holder of his shrine. After she agreed to guard it, Elliotes could no longer touch it. The shrine would zap him and the shock was painful.
"Courtney, please. Let him volunteer here. Please!"
"Did you sleep with this man?"
"Not yet," Monica mumbled.
"Damn it, Monica."
"Owww! That's a bad word!" The class sang in between laughter and giggles.
Courtney glared at the class and then the laughter stopped. The children all ran away to go play with the toys scattered across the classroom.
"I wish I could help you, Monica."
"Miss Courtney!" A young boy yelled, getting the attention of the three adults. He was a small boy with black hair and darker features. His mother was another one of Monica's close friends and was like a second son to her. He was trembling with fear as Teri ran behind him and pushed him down.
"He is a liar!" Teri yelled.
"He hasn't said anything yet," Monica said, helping Zane up. "What's wrong sweetheart?"
Sharp screams filled the classroom as some students ran in fear while others were clearly chasing something.
"I just wanted to help Elli and put the sher-ime in the cage with the beast."
Both Monica and Courtney let out a deep sigh as they realized what happened. The beast that Teri was referring to was the class pet, Elsa. A mind-numbing, terrifying, toddler-traumatizing hamster. A hamster who was now loose in a kindergarten class.
"The beast is loose?" Elliotes asked.
"Can you save her?" Teri asked.
"I am afraid my energy level is too low. I don't know how to help."
Teri reached into her pocket and pulled out a few loose jelly beans. The jelly beans were covered in hair and pocket lint.
Monica looked on in pure horror, but not for the reasons you may think. Let's look at this from the standpoint of a mother. Where did she get those jelly beans? How long has she had those jelly beans? Are those all the jelly beans?
Let's take it a step further in case you don't know her mother's pain. Did she have those jelly beans this morning? Did they go through the washing cycle with her clothes?
For the really terrifying questions. Did she find those on the floor? Were they in another child's mouth? Were they already in her mouth? Whose hair is attached to the jelly bean?
With each passing second another more terrifying question popped up. What was mortifying was when Teri presented the jelly beans to Elliotes, and Elliotes ate them.
Monica began to gag but Courtney was stunned when Elliotes summoned his wings, completely ripping his shirt off and showing off his godly abs. She couldn't believe her eyes, the jelly beans gave him wings. It was like a terrible Red Bull advertisement.
The class cheered as Teri held up the shrine with one hand. "Save Elsa! Go Elli go!" The children cheered.
Elliotes never experienced so much love and prayers before. He was a little overwhelmed as he hovered over the classroom. Courtney grabbed Monica's hand and began to squeeze it. This was her first time experiencing a flying man before.
"Freeze," Elliotes whispered.
His command stopped time. No one was moving except for Teri.
"Mommy?" Teri asked in fear. She walked over to her mother. "Mommy? Mommy!" Teri cried.
"Fear not young priestess," Elliotes said as he flew over towards the teacher's desk. Hiding under the teacher's chair was a terrified hamster. Elliotes gently picked up the hamster and carried her to the cage.
"Is my mommy dead?" Teri asked.
"No. I had to freeze her, as well as the rest of your classmates in order to capture your beast." Elliotes explained.
"Why didn't you freeze me?"
"Even though I must protect you, you must also protect me," Elliotes said. "Can you please place the temple in the cage?"
Teri was reluctant to leave her mother's side. Elliotes smiled as he watched Teri's fear. He remembered how close he was with his mother. How she would protect him from his father by calming him down. How she would stop his brother Morpheus from bullying him.
Elliotes could see Teri's request through his eyes. He is still learning how to use his new powers and was hesitant in his actions, but for Teri he was willing to try. Focusing on the little energy he had left on Monica he attempted to unfreeze her, and only her.
Monica took a deep breath as only her face was unfrozen. She looked down at Teri who was holding in tears.
"I'm sorry mommy. I won't do it again." Teri cried as she hugged her mother.
"It's okay Teri. Mommy is okay." Monica said trying to calm the child. Even though she couldn't move her body, she was okay because she could see that her child was okay.
Monica looked down at Teri and back up at Elliotes. Elliotes was smiling, but it was clear that he was scared. He had that same look on his face that Teri has when she is trying to hide something she broke.
"Do you know how to undo this?" Monica asked, clearly annoyed.
Elliotes nodded viciously. "We put everything in the cage and then I put my wings away and it undoes the magic. I think."
"You think!"
