Ch 3: Bedtime Buddies
Elliotes stood in Monica's room as she searched her closet. Inside she pulled out a cardboard box labeled dead to me. Elliotes watched as Monica sorted through the box holding up the occasional shirts.
"May I ask what it is that you are looking for?"
"Something for you to sleep in."
"May I ask what is wrong with this?"
Monica didn't even bother looking up at Elliotes. There will not be a half-naked man in her house. Even if he doesn't sleep in a shirt tonight he needs clothing for tomorrow. Without having the time or energy to go out tonight she turned to the box of the gone but not forgotten. The ex-boyfriend box.
It is the unspoken rule of womanhood. Whenever someone breaks up with you, and they do not come in a timely fashion to retrieve their belongings, you burn it.
Monica however kept everything in a box. She will occasionally wear the hoodies, and even the T-shirts, but she could never bring herself to burn the clothing. In her treasured box, she had sneakers, sweat pants, an unhealthy amount of jackets given the fact that she lives in the state of Florida, jewelry, and gifted teddy bears.
"Okay this will get you through tomorrow during the day, and I will have to take you shopping."
"Are these more offerings?" Elliotes asked.
"Sure. You can keep them."
Unable to contain his excitement Elliotes spread his rainbow wings out wide. A sparkled path gently flew from his wings and made its way to Teri's room.
"What are you doing?"
"An offering such as this will not go unnoticed. I am granting your most recent prayer."
"What the hell was my most recent prayer?"
"That Teri is protected while she sleeps."
The sparkles rained down on Teri as she slept. The five-year-old was unbothered and let out a tiny giggle as she rolled over.
"How often do the wings come out?"
"I don't know. This is only the second time that I was able to access them. I think it is thanks to the tiny priestess." Elliotes dropped down to one knee. "My lady, "
"Hang on there bud." Monica tried to interrupt.
"Though I am a God, I am new at answering prayers and blessing others. I am only as strong as those who love and believe in me. As your daughter is the first to have faith in me I vow to love, honor and protect her."
Monica truly did not know how to reply. Can she kill a God? I mean is it even possible? She wants to give Elliotes some slack because he has been locked away for 2,000 years but modern-day problems require modern-day solutions.
"You know those are wedding vows right?"
"Wedding vows?"
"When two people love each other very much and decided that they only want to have sex with only one other person for the rest of their lives-"
"Gross! What's wrong with you?" Elliotes screamed, "She is five."
"I just want to make sure you aren't a creep before I let you stay in my house. How do you even kill a God anyway? Do you use a stake like you would with vampires? I am the one who should be worried."
Elliotes laughed as he stood up.
"Do you even sleep?" Monica asked Elliotes.
"Sleep is not needed for a God, but more of an act of relaxation." Elliotes tried to explain.
"Do you want to sleep?"
"I figured I was doing that with you."
For a second Monica lost her composure with Elliotes words. Again she decided to give Elliotes some slack for being locked away for 2,000 years and he may not be understanding what he is saying.
"You want to sleep in my bed?"
"I believe that both of our bodies will feel amazing after sleeping with one another."
Monica could not control her nervous laugh. Maybe he does know what he is talking about.
"I am the God of Empty Dreams after all. With me by your side you will not have any nightmares. You would have the utmost peace, and my aurora brings a protective force that protects the whole home." Elliotes explained.
With you by my side I won't be able to sleep at all, Monica thought. I'm not going to do anything, my kid is in the next room. I have self-control and he is clueless.
"Fine, but there will be rules."
Monica fired off a list of rules that sounded like it was mostly for her to follow.
Elliotes agreed to the bedtime rules and thanked Monica for the box as he started to go through it. He knew that staying on Earth was going to be an uphill battle. He has no home to return to and his only hope is that his brother Morpheus meant what he said, and will return for him.
Returning home wasn't Elliotes only problem.
At the museum, Elliotes caused a scene. It is not every day that the whole building has to be evacuated from a magical black smoke. The weird phenomenon that occurred was not even being investigated by law enforcement. It was written off as a false alarm.
Willard however, knew what he saw. He even went as far as reviewing the video surveillance of the incident. Before that strong gust of wind that came that cleared the smoke, he saw a winged figure walk out of the space section.
Then a gust of wind came and turned all the cameras away inside the building. So, he was unable to see the winged figure. What Willard did see came from the camera outside. He watched as an unknown male, carried an unconscious Monica outside as Teri carried the tiny shrine meteorite.
Willard's intentions are unknown as of now. Law enforcement did not feel the need to do an investigation. The shrine held no value, historically or with currency. For all, they knew it was a toy house belonging to the baby. Let's be real, no one wants to arrest a toddler.
Even so, Willard did download the video and saved it to a separate file.
