Ch 18: Hurtful Truth

Overia plays entirely too much, Monica thought as she the chaos of the day died down. Overia decided to possess Elsa, again but this time made her talk.

For some reason Elliotes, Morpheus, and Overia were hanging out inside her house. Monica made sure to put Teri to bed before attempting to figure out what to do next.

Also, she was stuck with Elsa thanks to all of the chaos.

Morpheus promised not to enter Teri's dreams tonight, in exchange with Monica stitching his plucked-bladed wing back onto his body. She has done worse, and would never refuse an opportunity to give Teri a goodnight's sleep.

It is true that Morpheus never entered her dreams to turn them into nightmares, but the Goddess of Daydream probably saw every single daydream she had. She saw all of the good memories with Teri, and all the times she wished Teri was more behaved.

Worst of all she has seen every inappropriate thought that she has had about Elliotes. And it was all about to come out.

Elliotes was having a particularly hard time with the information that he was given. He just learned that he was adopted.

"I don't understand. I did the dream stuff." Elliotes explained. "I entered Teri's dream."

"More like she hoped you would show up and you did," Overia said.

"I don't understand."

"Me either." Morpheus added.

"Okay let me try to explain what Monica saw." Overia started. "Once upon a time, there was Elpis, the personified spirit of Hope. She and the other Daimones were trapped in a jar by Zeus and entrusted to the care of the first woman Pandora. When Pandora opened the vessel all of the spirits escaped except for Elpis who remained behind to comfort mankind."

Everyone was confused, however, Overia did not stop talking.

"Rumor has it that before Zesu killed Cronus, Cronus hooked up with Elpis and made a baby. Elpis prolonged delivery of said baby due to Cronus's final prayer, slowing the time needed for that baby to fully develop."

Elliotes and Morpheus looked at Monica confused.

"Don't look at me. Humans can make a baby in nine months." Monica explained.

"Cronus is the God of Time, he can change time however he chooses," Overia argued.

Elliotes sat still with his head in his hands. This story shouldn't be important unless... "What is the point of this story, Overia?"

"Monica wouldn't have been able to see all that if it wasn't somehow connected to you. Conversations became clearer after you escaped the jar. I don't know if Zesu knows you are his brother. But your powers of freezing time, and entering dreams to view the past, it makes sense that your powers weren't activated in the Land of Dreams. I think you are the forgotten son of Cronus."

"None of this makes sense to me!" Elliotes yelled.

Monica began to rub Elliotes arm in an attempt to calm him down. This is why she told Teri that she was adopted as soon as she was able to understand. The shock Elliotes was going through was heartbreaking.

"Am I not the God of Empty Dreams?" Elliotes cried out.

"You are the God of Nothingness." Morpheus joked.

"You are the God of Rainbow Jellybeans." Teri's tiny voice was heard from down the hall.

The yelling and arguing from the adults clearly woke her up. Teri walked over and went to sit on Morpheus' lap.

"Don't listen to the mean man." Teri said, pointing at Morpheus. Morpheus let out a laugh but Teri put her hand on his mouth to silence him. "My mommy always told me, "that I am kind, I am smart, and I am important." Elli, you are kind, you are smart, and you are important."

"Am I still a God?" Elliotes asked.

"You are more of one now than when you lived in the Land of Dreams. This is where Elpis is, somewhere in this world." Overia explained.

"What does that have to do with our mom?" Morpheus asked.

"There have been rumors of war. Zeus is trying to place all of the escaped Diamons back in the jar where they were originally trapped."

The reality dawned on both Morpheus and Elliotes. In the span of their sibling rivalry, they realized that their mother must have been captured by Zeus. They realized that their father's actions were a direct response to his anger towards Zeus.

"Dad banished me, to hide me didn't he?" Elliotes asked.

"We can go home and ask?" Morpheus said. "We can blame him for not telling us the truth. I can take Zesu."

"No, you can't."

"Yes, I can."

"You can barely take me."

"Whatever."

"Stop fighting." Teri yelled, silencing the boys. Monica couldn't help but giggle. Her daughter is more mature than these Gods.

The rest of the evening the trio argued about their history. Elliotes would access their daydreams and rewind them to get the facts about the situations. A lot of arguments were settled this way.

Teri was placed to bed one final time. This time it was Elliotes who carried her to her room. He remembered the art project of the family tree that they both drew. He drew his mom, dad, sister, and brother. Just because he wasn't born in the Land of Dreams doesn't mean he isn't a member of their family.

By Teri's standards, he was now a member of her family. She added him personally to her family tree.

"You're my bestest buddy right?" Elliotes asked, a very sleepily Teri. She gave a small smile as she nodded her head until her eyes closed. "I have to go now, but I promise to return."

"Take some jelly beans with you." Teri mumbled as she fell asleep.

Elliotes walked out of Teri's room and met Morpheus in the hall. "Are those jelly beans really magical?" Morpheus asked.

"No." Elliotes said with a chuckle. "The love that was behind it was the real magic."

"Are the wings really rainbow? Because they were solid red in the Land of Dreams." Morpheus said with excitement. "Dad is going to lose his mind, man. We are going to start a war."

Elliotes ignored Morpheus as he walked up to Monica. It was clear from her eyes that they needed to talk.
