Ch 13: Daddy Issues

Monica sat between Overia and Elliotes as they had a heated discussion during the children's play date. The playdate didn't stop, nor was it moved to a different room.

Zane, who was calmer and more focused, painted Overia's nails with silver nail polish and occasionally added golden glitters to bring out the shine. He then added a protective coating to the goddess' hands.

Teri took a wilder approach and painted the majority of Elliotes fingers. She went with the colors of the rainbow but changed the order of how the colors go. There was no rhyme nor reason to her color coordination.

Monica just supervised the group of four. Turns out that Elliotes is from the Land of Dreams, and his hometown is currently being overthrown by his older brother Morpheus. Overia doesn't believe Morpheus' methods but he is ruling better than his father who has been imprisoned for the last thousand years.

The issue is, Elliotes has returned. He didn't return quietly either. He has been using his powers on Earth which is forbidden. If that news traveled outside of the Land of Dreams things could get complicated in the Heavens.

Not only that, Overia feared that word would come out that Hypnos was overthrown. It would show weakness in their land and leave the opportunity for Zesu to invade.

"There's a war now?" Elliotes questioned Overia.

"Not yet. But if we free our father we can prevent a war."

"Has there been talks of a way?"

"No."

"Father used to lock me in the dungeon for years at a time." Elliotes snapped. "Why is this a problem? Why are you making up a war."

"A few years is way different than a few hundred years," Overia argued. "Besides, you weren't the best kid."

"I'm sorry I can't be Ms. Perfect Perfect like you," Elliotes whined.

Monica signed. I guess even siblings of the Heavens fight. They are acting more childish than the actual children.

"Ms. Monica." Zane started, interrupting the conversation between the adults. "How come I can't go to the Daddy-Daughter Dance?"

"You're not a girl." Teri teased.

"My mommy is a girl."

"You're not her dad."

Teri and Zane entered their own argument. Once the children were distracted, Overia and Elliotes went back to their argument.

Monica just sat there trying not to pull her hair out. How did she find herself in this situation? Why was everyone yelling?

Monica wondered if she should step in. Which fight did she need to break up? Who was going to get their feelings hurt first?

She began to place bets in her head. She felt like it was going to be either Zane or Elliotes to cry first. She didn't know Overia enough to say she will cry, and she knew Teri enough to know that she has no problems with hurting Zane's feelings.

"You can't even go! You don't have a dad!" Zane yelled.

Zane fired a truthful insult. It was super effective. So effective that Teri began to cry.

Her cries made everyone stop arguing.

"Mommy, why don't I have a dad?" Teri asked as she cried.

It is never good to lie to your child. When they find out the truth it will hurt more. Monica told Teri the truth about her being her new Mommy. She was officially promoted from sister to mommy at the adoption ceremony by Teri herself with a magical toy wand. An appointed ceremony some could say.

Where was Teri's real dad? It doesn't really matter because he has been gone since day one. If you want the truth though, he is in jail.

"Why don't you have a dad?" Monica repeated the question, thinking of an answer that was truthful for this situation. "Because I haven't met him yet."

"Is it because you are ugly?" Teri asked.

And here Monica was trying to spare Teri's feelings. "You think I'm ugly?"

"No. My potential dads do." Teri said.

It took all of Monica's willpower not to fall back into her sister's role and fight this evil toddler.

"I'll be your daddy." Zane offered.

"No, you will not." Monica shot back. Yes, the situation was innocent, but she does not want these kids repeating this in school.

"You need to be grateful that you have a father El. Not everyone gets one." Overia said. "Please help me save father. Morpheus has gone mad with power. Also, mom hasn't returned home since you left."

Monica was able to see the tension between Elliotes and Overia. She instructed Teri and Zane to go play in the room so she could play referee between the siblings with the magical powers.

"Father never liked me though. He made it clear that I was a waste of space. He ordered Morpheus to banish me." Elliotes said.

"Yes, then he ordered Morpheus to bring you home, and Morpheus never did. And I couldn't find you." Overia explained. She was slowly getting emotional as she talked. "Mom never came home, and you were gone. El I have been looking for you for years."

"I was locked in the shrine. I couldn't get out. I didn't know how. I didn't know shrines had rules." Elliotes whined. "Why do shrines lock through the outside?"

"Why did you build a shrine to begin with?"

"It was a tiny temple!"

"Both of you stop." Monica silenced them.

She was beginning to get a headache with all of the noise. Everyone has their own set of daddy issues here. She knows it is not her place to get in between a family affair, but their family seems to be getting mixed with hers. If they want to have this argument in their house they have no choice but to listen to her opinion.

"Listen, I don't know what you three have been through. Morpheus being forced to kick his brother out, Elliotes being disowned, Overia having to witness this event and not being able to stop it. I just know what I am being told. A civilized conversation needs to be had between you three." Monica explained. "You three have been using Teri as a telephone, and that is not okay. She is five. Her mind is still being developed, and you guys are using her because she wanted to share some jelly beans."

Both Elliotes and Overia looked down in shame. Neither of them meant to hurt Teri. Now Morpheus is targeting her for unknown reasons.

Who are they kidding, they knew the reason. Morpheus was being petty. The first time Elliotes see Morpheus again they get into a fight.

Who really started that fight though?
