Chapter 2
It was Saturday October 7;
Dean smirked down at Blare, he had hidden in the same spot as her over and over. She was getting tired of him, but honestly was glad she wasn't alone. She loved hide-and-seek-in-the-dark, but hated the being alone part. The dark scared the crap out of her... well, what was in the dark did. The other presence was easing her racing mind, but also made her tense. She wished it was anyone but Dean. She already had to deal with him enough.
"Alright, so, who are we missing?" Ann's distant voice asked.
"Dean and sis." Zeek spoke up first, noticing nither his best friend nor sister were there.
"I wanna find Blare!" Brass cheered childishly. Blare's eyes rolled as she sunk to the wall of her hiding place.
"Let's just spilt up and look for them." Mannie groaned in an annoyed tone. Blare could tell his eyes rolled. She smirked amusedly and scrunched up silently.
She was very good at not making noise, even made it so that her breathing was silent. Dean was pretty good at that too. He was seated next to her, which was part of the reason Blare curled up. Dean was watching the door, but mainly her. He didn't know why he was hated so much by her, and honestly he was getting annoyed, but he tried not to focus on it. He looked back at the door, a bored expression on his face.
A half hour passed and they weren't found. Blare frowned wearily. She stood and walked towards the exit to show where she was. Dean caught her, not wanting to give up the game. Blare looked at him panickedly. Dean smirked and pulled her down to him. Blare tried to shove him away, but he was not letting go. She made a noise, alerting the others and drawing them near. Dean covered her mouth and held her still. Blare froze, she was completely panicked. She had started to shake, Dean noticed. He was ignoring it though, and keeping his cocky composure.
They were found swiftly after that. Blare literally wouldn't let go of Brass after. Dean didn't seem affected by her behavior. He honestly could care less, but somewhere way way deep down, he had a tiny hint of caring. The game ended because of the panicking girl and they had to find something else to do.
Since their friends were staying at Zeek and Blare's house, they decided to set up sleeping spaces. Their dad already made it clear that if he caught the boys asleep with the girls, both kids would be grounded and they were not getting another sleepover. Given how this was their first (at their house), they didn't want it to be their last. The boys were sleeping in Zeek's room, the girls in Blare's.
Since there were only two girls, Blare and Ann were sleeping in Blare's bed. In the boys room, they were debating. None wanted sleeping bags, but there was not that much room in Zeek's bed and they couldn't blow up an air mattress.
"Why don't we just sleep on the couch?" Brass offered.
"That's an option, I think." Zeek chewed on his thumb absentmindedly. He and his sister had the same nasty habits, one of them being chewing on their thumb as they thought.
"Then let's just do that?" Brass waved his hands. So the boys went to sleep on the couch. They each got their own space and that was that.
They went back to games. Dean somehow convinced everyone to go outside. Blare really wasn't so sure about it, but she followed since she didn't want to be alone.
"Isn't Dad gonna get mad if he finds out?" Blare whimpered. She was hoping she could draw out her brother's logic.
"Nah, he said he wanted us outside more?" Zeek shrugged, grinning amusedly. "Besides, he already knows." He pointed at his dad, who was sitting on the porch. Blare whimpered uncertainly. "Dude, chill sis." Zeek punched her arm annoyedly. Blare glared at him, he glared back.
"Whatever." She grumbled, carefully waving her arm.
"We should go on a walk! You guys live by the beach, right? Let's go there!" Ann grinned with hope.
"Yeah, sure." Zeek agreed. "Blare, are you sure you don't want shoes?" She shrugged. Zeek's eyes rolled as he shrugged back. The group went down to the beach.
"Do it, no balls!" Brass challenged Blare. She smirked amusedly. Blare was the first of her friends to drop down by the plants. She carefully followed the steep trail down, dirt logging between her toes uncomfortably. She was careful not to step on something that would hurt her too bad. She met Dean at the bottom. He was smirking amusedly down at her. She avoided eye contact at all costs. "Nice job, dude." Brass snickered, highfiving Blare. Blare highfived back. She rubbed under her nose and smirked slyly. It was hard to see in the dark, but the moon was a good light source.
"At least we came at low tide." Mannie pointed out. He was walking towards the water.
"Luck." Zeek nodded, snickering. Ann smiled sheepishly at his voice. She chewed in her lip shyly. She nodded in agreement.
"Shoes are for the weak!" Blare challenged. She was standing in the way of the water. Everyone kicked off their shoes to accept the challenge. Zeek was by Blare first. He had a huge smirk on his face.
"The water's nice and cool." He pointed out. He sent Blare a sly look. Blare smirked back.
"Then why don't you go for a swim?" Dean shoved his in and laughed.
"Dude! Not cool! My phone!" Zeek whimpered, fumbling to get out. He shook off his wet wallet and phone. He glared at Dean, who kept laughing. "You owe me a new one." He hissed.
"Sure, sure." Dean snickered.
"And twenty bucks since you ruined my cash in here." Zeek whimpered. He sighed heavily and shook off, flinging water at everyone else. They laughed and tried to avoid the assault. Zeek rung out his shirt after pulling it off. Ann hid her red face in Blare's shoulder. Blare snickered and pat her head. "Let's go back. This is suddenly not fun." Zeek sighed.
"Laaaaame." Brass called it was his way of agreeing.
They went back. Zeek put his phone in rice and changed. He was drying off with a towel and coming back to greet his friends.
"I'm not playing spin the bottle." Blare crossed her arms. Her head shook.
"Aww, come on Blare." Dean challenged, smirking. "Scared of who you'll have to kiss?" He teased. Blare's eyes rolled.
"Actually, I agree with Blare. None of you are playing spin the bottle. I've let you stay up long enough, time for sleep." Adam decised.
"Dad!" Zeek whined.
"Now." Adam gave him a look. Zeek sighed.
"Fine. Let's get ready for bed guys." Zeek puffed his cheeks. The group dispatched and got ready to sleep.
Blare was curled to the wall lazily. She was half asleep already.
"Zeek is really cute." Ann suddenly brought up. She was staring at the ceiling, contemplating this thought.
"Nnmhhmmm..." Blare grumbled back, hoping she'd shut up.
"Do you like anyone?" Ann asked, looking at Blare. Blare lazily shrugged. "I think you and Brass would be a cute couple." Ann looked back at the ceiling. "Or maybe you and Dean." She nodded approvingly to herself.
"Ann..." Blare mumbled lazily. "Go to sleep." She huffed and curled further under her covers. "Fantasize about Zeek in your dreams." She ordered tiredly. She really just wanted the subject dropped.
"Okay, good night." Ann smiled at the idea.
"N... night..." Blare mumbled. She sunk further into sleep.
"But you know what would be really nice? Making out with Zeek. I bet he's a good kisser. Are you a good kisser, Blare?" Ann asked, flipping on her side to face Blare. Blare sighed, facing her.
"I don't know." Blare shrugged.
"Oh, okay." Ann nodded. Blare sighed softly and closed her eyes. "Am I a good kisser?" Ann asked herself.
"Kill me." Blare muttered to herself.
"Blare, nO." Ann whimpered. Blare shrugged. Ann frowned worriedly. She shifted her head. "Night..." She decided she was tired.
"Nnhnn..." Blare sleepily agreed. They both fell asleep.
Meanwhile...
The boys were debating on wether or not to rade Blare's room. They had heard the entire conversation. Zeek was actually red faced, Dean was teasing him quietly.
"Oh, I think they're asleep." Brass whispered.
"Now." Zeek pushed open the door. An overly loud alarm went off. "Gah, what the hell?!" Zeek covered his ears. Blare shot up, looking around frantically.
"What the fuck is that?!" She yelled, covering her ears. Ann was already crying. Adam ran out of his room, stumbling as he went. He was booking it down the hall to the alarm system. He had a knife.
"Get in the girls room!" Adam ordered as he ran off.
"Dad?!" Zeek panickedly called back. He and the three other boys crawled into Blare's room. Zeek closed the door, leaning on it. The teens exhaled with relief when the shrieking alarm stopped. Next came the phone call.
"No, nothing seems to be wrong. I think it was tripped when the kids started moving around..." Adam had answered the call. "...Yes It's on home-" the alarm shrieked again. "God!" Adam yelled annoyedly. He punched it and it shut up. He sighed. "Yes, we're all inside... Yes, we're all safe... No, I really don't think that's necessary... Could someone just come check it out later?" Adam sighed and rubbed his neck. Zeek wandered out to see what was wrong. Blare quickly followed. The rest of the group did as well. "Yes... Yes... We are all safe... No, that's really not necessary... Okay... Okay..." Adam sighed again. "Alright, thank you." He ended the call and yelled at the ceiling.
"What's wrong, Dad?" Zeek asked nervously. Adam faced him.
"The alarm is freaking out! They're sending police here, can you believe that?" Adam sighed heavily. "For tonight, since the alarm is freaking out, I think it'd be best for you all to sleep in Blare's room." Adam decided, trying not to scare the already panicked teens.
"But you said-" Blare pointed out.
"Yes, I know what I said," Adam interrupted. "I'm changing my mind." He announced. The alarm started shrieking. "Jesus Christ!" Adam screamed. He shut the system down again. "Go back to bed." He ordered. The kids exchanged a look.
The boys moved their stuff to Blare's room, where they slept in bean bags and Zeek slept on the extra bed, which was technically his. Dean slept with him.
The police came, they checked the house carefully and then left. Adam got the alarm to shut up for the night and went back to bed.
"Nnn..." Blare lazily shifted. She fell off her bed after rolling over Ann. Ann watched, after being woken up. Blare's impact made a noise that jolted everyone else awake, except her. She curled, shivering and tried to sleep on the floor.
"Pff-" Ann giggled. She had an amused grin.
"You loser." Zeek glared at Blare. He rolled over and tried to fall askeep. Ann's excessive giggling was music to his ears and actually calmed him to sleep.
Brass nudged Blare with his foot. He gave Mannie a look. Mannie sighed. "Just leave her." He mumbled. He curled and went back to sleep. Brass shrugged. He went back to sleep.
Dean watched Ann fall back asleep. He smirked, carefully listening for any breathing of an awake-pace. He found none. He crawled out of bed. Zeek lazily shifted, taking over his spot. Dean tensed as he waited for Zeek to stop moving. Once he did, Dean walked over to Blare.
"Hey!" Brass called lazily. His finger shook, but his eyes stayed closed. Dean looked over curiously. "Those are my pancakes..." Brass lazily grumbled. He shifted and silenced.
Dean scoffed and rolled his eyes. He crouched by Blare, his knees popping. He winced, hoping the sound awoke no one. No one reacted. Dean sighed softly. He tilted Blare's head to face him. He brushed a piece of her hair back from her face. He blushed darkly, trying to ignore the ever lingering feeling. He had been ignoring it for years, forcing nervous feelings to subside, and red faces to disappear. Now, though, he was alone. He could let himself feel. He gently rested his hand on Blare's cheek. Blare lazily faced it. Dean retracted panickedly. I don't like her. He frustratedly reminded himself. Besides, she hates me. There's nothing there! He nodded to himself. Dean stood. He softly sighed. He picked up Blare, careful not to disturb her. He glared away when her head rested against him. Nothing. He forcefully reminded himself.
Zeek sat up. His head looked around. Dean froze with panic. Zeek laid back down, he giggled. "Ladies, gentlemen there is plenty of me for all of you~" he announced then hugged his pillow. He actually started kissing it. Dean held in laughter. He was glad he wasn't that pillow.
Dean set Blare on her bed. Blare curled under her covers. Dean nodded approvingly. He inhaled sharply and silently exhaled. Nothing. He wanted himself to feel nothing. The truth was, he felt something, ever day and every night. He wished he had no emotion so he didn't have to act so tough, but he cared way too much all of the time. His act was hard to keep up with sometimes.
Dean pushed Zeek over with his foot. He crawled back into bed. He rested one arm behind his head and the other on his chest. He softly sighed. He closed his eyes, listening to the room's silence.
"Stop burning the turkeys..." Mannie mumbled. "...Because they're live." Dean raised a brow. He was curious, but decided he didn't want to know.
"Nn... hehehe... Z-Zeek..." Ann blushed and hugged the pillow. Dean rolled his eyes. So predictable. He silently decided.
"That's my underwear, Blare... No, you can't burn it!" Zeek huffed. Dean snickered, but covered his mouth. He silently laughed. He actually had tears in his eyes from laughing. "Because I said!" Zeek whined. He silenced after that.
Blare sat up. She sneezed really hard, then laid back down. "Mmm.. bless you." She mumbled to herself. Dean watched. He raised a brow. Blare giggled lazily. Her giggling stopped abruptly. "Fuck off, Dean." She hissed. She stopped talking after that.
Dean frowned. He sighed and curled lazily. Nothing. He reminded. He listened to Mannie say something in gibberish. He didn't find it funny anymore. Dean tried to fall asleep, but with the lack of noise it was hard. He ended up falling to sleep after an hour or so of trying.
