Chapter Six
Robin and Nami heard Zoro's scream before he was pulled away. Both Straw Hat women ran to the front of the temple overlooking the lake. "Zoro!" Robin shouted while Nami looked peeved. "LUFFY WHAT THE HELL?" Nami shouted, shaking her fist. "Just wait until I get my hands on him," she mumbled.
Robin softly smiled, chuckling. "Well, it seems our Captain is here. That just leaves everyone else unaccounted for. Maybe they're also scattered around the island," she mused, going back to the engravings, reading intently.
"Robin! Shouldn't we go after Zoro and regroup with Luffy?" Nami asked incredulously. She put her hands on her hips and frowned. "Is the history really that important?" The orange haired woman peeked over Robin's shoulder, squinting at the markings. "How can you read this? I've never seen a language like this." Yet, somehow, the ancient words felt familiar to Nami, like she was supposed to understand them.
"It's similar to the poneglyphs," Robin observed with intrigue. "But it's different. I can't quite put my finger on it. I can understand what it's saying, but when I try to dig deeper about the language, I'm drawing a blank." Her mind went blank. "It's almost as if someone is blocking..." she trailed off, glancing over her shoulder at Nami.
"I'm sure Zoro and Luffy will make their way here," Robin smiled warmly. "I think we should wait for them." A frown replaced her smile when she looked out at the dark forest. "I believe this place will be the safer place to be at the moment."
"What about those other temples?" Nami jutted her thumb back at the lake. "Should we go explore those?" The navigator was getting past her initial fear of the island, though it still felt creepy to her. Her goal was to draw a map of the world. She might as well start navigating this island and charting it.
Robin walked over to the lake, taking in the different colors in the water. "This island has many mysteries. All of which I'd love nothing more than to solve, but we shouldn't get too distracted." The older woman sighed dejectedly. "Zoro is right. We need to find the rest of the crew. Then, maybe we can figure out the mysteries."
Nami firmly nodded her head in agreement. She walked over to Robin and sat down next to her. "The lake is really pretty. I didn't know water could be so many different colors in the same lake." Her feet just barely touched the water, creating a few small ripples.
Robin sat down as well and bent down to put her hand in the water, moving the water around. "The forest feels dark and cold, but the lake, these temples, feel warm and inviting. Safe almost." She stared at the temple that was dark obsidian with a disturbing aura. "But that place...it does not bode well."
The two women sat by the lake for an hour, resting and coming up with different plans for different scenarios. Since Luffy found out the two were in the marble temple, he all but dragged Zoro, Law, and Bonney to get to the marble temple. Shanks could feel someone watching them with tired, calculated eyes, but Shanks couldn't see who it was. Yet, whoever it was didn't approach or cause trouble...yet.
"NAMI! ROBIN!" Luffy shouted with glee, catapulting himself to crash into the two, hugging them both. He laughed joyfully. One of the temples on the east side of the lake was made out of white marble and glowed with golden sunlight. The ceiling was fully open to allow as much sunlight inside. The water in front of his temple was tinted gold. This temple seemed to bring an even happier aura when Luffy laughed.
"Luffy!" Nami grinned manically and hugged him around the neck, cutting off his air circulation. "This is what happens when you go running toward danger so much! Danger is now coming for us!" She shook Luffy around for a moment before letting him go.
Robin chuckled softly. She looked back at the others. "It's good to see you again, Torao," she smiled kindly at Law. Her gaze shifted to Bonney. "Thank you for saving Zoro back in Sabaody," she thanked. Finally, her gaze reached Shanks and Robin's eyes widened. "You must be Red Haired Shanks," she guessed.
"Oh yeah! Nami, Robin, this is Shanks! My hat belongs to him and once I become King of the Pirates I'm going to give it back!" Luffy determined enthusiastically.
Nami looked at Shanks with a curious expression. "That's Shanks?" she murmured. She had heard stories from Luffy about him. She shivered, his presence radiating pure power. No wonder he was an emperor. Somehow, this man was scarier than Big Mom and Kaido. "He's really powerful," she murmured to herself.
"I've heard a lot about you," Robin nodded to Shanks, dipping her head in respect. "Luffy tells a lot of stories." She got up and walked toward the small group. "I've been reading these engravings and learning." Her smile was one of awe and intrigue. The older woman touched the wall once more. "History, mythological stories, and so much more. Even Joy Boy is mentioned here."
"What?" Shanks turned to Robin, eyes widening. "Are you sure?" He walked over to her.
"I'm not positive, but all the evidence points to him," Robin admitted, glancing up at Shanks. She pushed her sunglasses back up on her head. "I assume your crews are also missing?" she asked Law, Bonney, and Shanks. Three nods. Robin frowned. "That's...not good. I wonder why we were the ones to wake up here."
"It must have something to do with the engravings?" Bonney suggested, looking around. "I mean, if there's information here, it should help us understand." She adjusted her jacket, pulling it up over her shoulders.
"ROOM," Law said, creating a large blue dome around the temple. "SCAN." Yet, he couldn't quite sense what was going on outside. All he could sense was what he could see. He dropped the room and frowned. "I can't scan this place," he murmured. "I was hoping to scan the area for any other signs of our crew mates."
"You mean you can't sense anything?" Nami asked, voice shaking. "But shouldn't you be able to scan and sense what's in your room?" Shanks had tensed up when Law spoke. So, even Law's abilities from his devil fruit were acting up as well as Shanks' haki. He frowned, feeling guilt pool in his gut for not saying anything about his haki or his vision. However, he was making the hard call because he didn't want to cause a huge panic over something that could be nothing.
"You really shouldn't lie," a male voice echoed in Shanks' head, tone full of cruel amusement. "If that vision was true, that blood is on your hands, no?" Shanks jerked his head to the side and blocked out the voice.
The group had crowded around Robin as she read more of the engravings and messages on the marble walls. Robin's brows furrowed as she read them, frowning slightly at the darker parts. After a few minutes of silence, Robin's jaw dropped and she paled. She stepped back from the wall and swallowed thickly.

"WAHHH!" Chopper cried out, hiding in Buggy's cape. He covered his eyes and shivered. "Ahhh! I don't like this!" he wailed, panic overtaking his mind. As much as Buggy was an enemy of the Straw Hats from time to time, Chopper seeked refuge with the clown. As far as they knew, the two figured they were the only ones on the island.
Buggy had seen many things while sailing with Roger, Shanks, and on his own. Heck, he had survived Impel Down and Marineford. But this...this was almost enough to make him sick. He let Chopper hide in his cape and the clown's jaw was dropped.
Bubbles...bodies...blood...
"You're not supposed to be here," a voice drawled, footsteps echoing throughout the dark basement. The air seemed to get much colder, the sound of bubbles adding to the unease with a soft drip-drip followed by the sound of rattling chains.
"YOU!?" Buggy screeched, eyes bugging out of his skull.
