Chapter 20
Another forty minutes of soaring through the clouds when the gremlin peered down then looked back to the empress.
"Now where are we?" He asked.
"Passing over spirit cove." The dragon answered for her.
"Thank you." Vamier responded.
"Did you need to stop for something?" He asked the little fellow.
"Oh no i'm fine." Vamier replied.
"Ah, good to hear." Soranto commented.
"We will need to land when it gets dark." The empress chimed in.
"Yes mother." The dragon teased.
The gremlin put his thin fingered hand to his mouth to contain the laughter. The sound of muffled snickering escaped him.
"You've flown a lot this day. I care therefore I worry." She explained.
"You worry more than needed." The dragon pointed out.
"I do not." She retorted sounding like a human child.
The dragon shook his head and dropped the issue entirely.
After another two hours of flight the star and moons began to appear in the darkening skies. When it did the dragon called back to her.
"I know it's dark. I'll land soon but i'd like a few more miles behind us." He told her. He flew another twenty minutes before safely landing them a few feet from a small city.
"Empress check that map of yours and see where we are." He suggested to her.
After climbing down and then helping Vamier the empress rummaged around the magic bag until she found it down in the bottom corner of the bag. Quickly unfolding it she glanced down for a moment.
"According to the map the city in the distance is Kahale." The empress informed them both.
The three of them plopped down in the soft grey-green grass. Once all were situated, she handed a muffin to the gremlin and several to the dragon. After a bit of conversation and another snack the three of them curled up into the soft grasses. They were weary from traveling so far so fast, they hadn't a problem finding sleep.
Before falling asleep, the empress watched a brightly lit neon rainbow butterfly going past them. It was twice the size of a butterfly, a beautiful creature, fluttering past them then up into the tree branches a few yards away. Seeing it gave her a sense of peace as she nodded off into the reality of her dreams.
