Chapter 1
A year after Amberosia adopted Ludwig as a familiar, he was off flying for his sorceress. It had taken a while; more than a few weeks to adjust to those he protected. He adored Amberosia, she'd saved him as well as reminded him of other witches he'd looked after over the years. It was strange at first, not having to fly all over to check on his magical beings.
After a few months, he had gotten on the dragon's good side. He could tell the dragon had mixed feelings about him , but he had been patient and understanding with the huge beast. Now they were like old friends. It was nice to have a real home not a random cave to sleep in.
He also did favors for the empress, Ralvania. She had been nice to him from the start, but it made him suspicious. For the first three weeks he thought she was out to get him. Now she was like a mother.
The gargoyle was happy that he'd gone to Goblin's Hollow to find a place to stay, he'd always be grateful to them for giving him a home and a purpose again. It didn't feel like he just worked for them, but that he belonged there. He liked doing these tasks for both the empress and Amberosia. They treated him exceptionally well.
Ludwig had been flying most of the night from Queen Lily's palace with a message to be sent straight away to the empress. He was trying to return to the castle before the daylight hours. He was more than capable of flying during the day, but preferred the dark nocturnal hours. He also knew that certain messages can wait unless they came from Lily or Pandora.
He peered as far as the horizon would allow to see that the peaceful hours of night were fading as the light began to invade the darkness. Flying at a much harder speed he kept going dodging clouds left and right, until another twenty three miles and he could see the castle just beyond that, the cave.
Landing near the kitchen window, he awaited the newly appointed sorceress to take the message. She had walked into the kitchen to begin the day when she saw him there. Grabbing a plate of fruits and bread she carried it to him.
"Good morning", she greeted him.
"Take this message to Ralvania with her coffee, it's from the Queen." He replied, eating quickly.
"Good night." He told her when he'd finished, then flew off to the cave.
