Chapter 18

By the time she had nagged the dragon into stopping for at least a cat nap; he'd flown the better part of four hours. Not wanting him to pass out in mid-flight she had argued with him until he gave in to a thirty minute rest but not a moment longer.

Once he landed and then found a good tree to sleep next to he curled up to rest. The empress looked around the forest, admiring the serene feeling it gave her. She walked a few feet away from Soranto to let him rest. She sat down in the soft grass and became lost in her own thoughts for the next twenty-seven minutes.

Ralvania began to think of her home and getting back to her responsibilities as empress. There was also getting back to her favorite room. She also wondered how things went with her new apprentice while she'd been helping the vampire. They weren't that far from her home, possibly forty minutes from her front door.

A few minutes later she heard the dragon getting up. He walked over to her slowly.

"Did you get enough rest?" She asked him.

"Yes, you ready to go home now?" He asked, almost pestering.

She nodded and then climbed up his long back and waited until he sped off in the air, heading for home on the border of Goblin's Hollow. Soranto flew like the wind, relieved they weren't asked to go on a quest or rescue mission this time. He didn't always mind these adventures but he didn't trust full-blooded vampires, demons or hell-spawn of any kind.

Flying a little faster, he looked down at the bright colored forest landscape. He could tell they would be home sooner than he thought. He had flown from home to Kadrid's and back at least twice a week for several months now. The only time he hadn't was when a long time consuming quest was involved. He flew a little higher and a lot faster in an almost tunnel-flight vision until; twenty five minutes later they were home once more.

The empress climbed down quickly.

"Thank you for your help." She told the enchanting creature.

"Always." He replied simply, nodding to her and then turning and walking slowly to his cave behind her castle.
