The Incident
Previously
Yasmine was sitting on the couch reading a magazine when she heard Caleb's car park in the driveway. She heard the key turn in the lock. "Honey I'm home" said Caleb. "In the living room" Yasmine replied. Caleb walked towards the living room to find Yasmine reading a magazine. "You still read those magazines" asked Caleb sitting next to her on the couch "Y'a I find them interesting" she replied. "How was practice" she asked. "Tiring" Caleb replied. "What happened" Yasmine asked. "I kept zoning out" he replied. "Why what happened" she asked. "I couldn't stop think about you and the baby" he replied putting a hand on her stomach. "You didn't tell anyone did you" she asked. "Of course not" he replied. "Don't worry we'll tell them together when we're both ready" she suggested. "Y'a we'll tell them together" he agreed.
2 months later
As Yasmine stepped out of her room, the anticipation of seeing Caleb train danced in her mind. She glanced at her reflection in the mirror, a subtle smile playing on her lips as she adjusted her outfit. The light blue crop top hugged her frame gently, accentuating her curves while the jeans provided comfort and mobility. Pulling on the oversized hoodie, she relished the cozy warmth it offered against the evening chill, completing her look with a pair of white vans for casual flair.
With a final check to ensure she had everything she needed, Yasmine grabbed her purse, phone, and opus card, tucking them securely into her bag. After locking the door behind her, she made her way down the familiar path to the bus stop, the rhythmic click of her shoes echoing against the pavement.
Arriving at the bus stop, Yasmine settled onto the bench, the anticipation of the journey ahead bubbling within her. The bus arrived shortly after, its familiar appearance a welcome sight against the backdrop of the city skyline. With practiced ease, Yasmine scanned her opus card and stepped onto the bus, the soft hum of the engine soothing her nerves as she found a seat towards the back.
As the bus pulled away from the stop, Yasmine gazed out of the window, watching the cityscape blur past in a flurry of lights and movement. With each passing moment, her excitement grew, the prospect of seeing Caleb on the field filling her with a sense of pride and joy.
Lost in her thoughts, Yasmine barely noticed the journey as the bus wound its way through the city streets. Before long, it came to a halt near the soccer field where Caleb practiced, and Yasmine rose from her seat, her heart pounding with anticipation.
Stepping off the bus, Yasmine felt a surge of excitement wash over her. With a quick glance around, she made her way towards the field, the sound of cheering and the sight of players in motion signaling that she was getting closer.
As she approached the field, Yasmine's eyes scanned the players, searching for Caleb among them. And there he was, a familiar figure in the sea of athletes, his movements fluid and graceful as he chased after the ball.
A smile spread across Yasmine's face as she watched him play, her heart swelling with pride at the sight of her husband doing what he loved. In that moment, surrounded by the energy of the field and the love in her heart, Yasmine knew that she wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world.
As Yasmine settled onto the bleachers, her eyes fixed on Caleb as he practiced with his team, a sense of pride swelling within her chest. She watched with rapt attention as he moved across the field with skill and determination, the sight of him in his element filling her with a deep sense of admiration.
Lost in the moment, Yasmine barely noticed the soccer ball hurtling towards her until it was almost upon her. Panic surged through her veins as she realized she didn't have enough time to react, fear gripping her heart at the thought of the ball striking her or, worse, her unborn child.
But just as she braced herself for impact, relief flooded through her as Caleb sprang into action, his reflexes lightning-fast as he deftly intercepted the ball with a swift kick of his foot. The ball veered off course, narrowly missing Yasmine and leaving her unscathed.
"Honey, are you okay?" Caleb's voice cut through the tension, his concern evident as he hurried over to her side.
Yasmine nodded, her heart still racing from the close call. "I'm fine," she managed to reply, her voice trembling slightly with residual fear.
Caleb's eyes softened with relief as he reached out to take her hand in his, his touch a comforting anchor in the midst of chaos. "What are you doing here?" he asked, his concern evident in his tone.
Yasmine offered him a sheepish smile, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I thought I would come and surprise you," she admitted, her voice tinged with nervous laughter.
Caleb's expression softened at her words, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Well, consider me surprised," he replied with a chuckle, his eyes twinkling with affection.
Yasmine couldn't help but return his smile, her heart swelling with love for the man who had just saved her from harm. "How did you get here?" Caleb asked, curiosity shining in his gaze.
"I took the bus," Yasmine replied, her tone light despite the lingering fear. "What, you took the bus? Honey, you could have hurt yourself or the baby," Caleb whispered, the concern evident in his voice as he glanced discreetly at her small baby bump.
Yasmine reached out to reassure him, placing a hand over his. "We're fine," she reassured him, her voice filled with warmth and love. "Just a little shaken, that's all."
Caleb's expression softened at her words, his gaze lingering on her with tender concern. "That's good to know," he replied, his voice filled with gratitude as he pulled her into a gentle embrace.
As they stood together on the sidelines of the soccer field, Yasmine couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for the man who stood beside her, his unwavering love and protection a constant source of strength and comfort. And as she looked into his eyes, she knew that with Caleb by her side, they could overcome any obstacle that came their way, their love serving as a beacon of hope in the face of uncertainty.
"Well, I'm not gonna send you back home," Caleb reassured Yasmine, his voice laced with affection as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I don't want to distract you."
Yasmine smiled warmly at Caleb's thoughtful gesture, her heart swelling with love for him. "I'm on break so we can spend some time together before I head back on the field," Caleb continued, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Come meet my teammates."
Yasmine's brow furrowed in confusion at his invitation. "Weren't they at our wedding?" she asked, trying to recall the faces of the guests from their special day.
Caleb chuckled softly, the sound rich with fondness. "Yeah, they were at our wedding, but you never really got the chance to actually meet them," he explained, reaching out to take her hand in his. "It's about time you got to know the guys I spend so much time with."
A mischievous twinkle danced in Yasmine's eyes as she remembered their agreement. "Just don't tell them about the baby," she reminded Caleb, a playful grin tugging at her lips.
Caleb nodded solemnly, his expression filled with determination. "Don't worry, I didn't forget about my promise," he assured her, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead before walking over to where his teammates were standing.
As Caleb approached his teammates, Yasmine watched from a distance, her heart swelling with pride at the sight of her husband. She knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, united in their love and commitment to each other and their growing family. And as she waited for Caleb to return, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the love and support that surrounded them, knowing that together, they could conquer anything.
""Hey, do you guys remember my wife, Yasmine?" Caleb's voice rang out, filled with pride and affection as he gestured towards Yasmine, who stood beside him, a radiant smile adorning her features.
"Of course we remember her! You were never able to keep your hands off her in high school," Jude chimed in with a playful laugh, his eyes twinkling with mischief as he teased his friend.
Caleb feigned offense at Jude's remark, his playful banter flowing effortlessly. "Hey, not true," he protested, lightly punching Jude in the arm with a grin.
Jude recoiled in mock indignation, rubbing his arm with exaggerated melodrama. "Hey, what did you do that for?" he exclaimed with a chuckle.
Caleb's laughter filled the air, his expression warm and jovial. "Sorry, it's just a reflex," he explained with a sheepish grin, the camaraderie between the friends palpable.
Meanwhile, Nathan approached Yasmine with a warm smile, his eyes filled with brotherly affection. "Hey, little sis, how are you doing?" he greeted her warmly.
Yasmine returned her brother's smile with equal warmth, a sense of familiarity and comfort enveloping her in his presence. "Hey, Nathan," she replied affectionately, her voice tinged with fondness.
Nathan's concern for his sister was evident as he turned to Caleb. "Is Caleb taking care of you?" he inquired, his protective instincts kicking in.
Yasmine couldn't help but laugh at her brother's concern, her affection for him evident in her eyes. "Of course he is. You worry too much," she reassured him with a playful grin.
As Caleb approached, Yasmine felt his familiar embrace, his arms enveloping her in a comforting hug. His kiss on her cheek elicited a soft giggle from her lips as she playfully questioned his actions.
"Honey, what are you doing?" she asked with a teasing smile, her gaze dancing with affection as she met Caleb's eyes.
Caleb's response was filled with warmth and sincerity as he extended an invitation to Yasmine. "I was thinking, do you want to come watch my next game? I know you haven't watched me play in a while," he offered, his eyes shining with anticipation.
Yasmine's eyes lit up with excitement at Caleb's invitation. "I would love to," she replied eagerly, her heart swelling with pride at the thought of cheering on her husband from the sidelines.
Before Caleb could respond, Coach Travis's voice cut through the air, urging him back onto the field. Yasmine couldn't help but roll her eyes at the coach's interruption, her irritation evident as she placed a calming hand on Caleb's arm.
Caleb's tension melted away at the touch of Yasmine's hand, his expression softening with gratitude. "I gotta go. Will you stick around to watch the end of my practice?" he asked, his eyes searching hers for reassurance.
"Sure, me and the baby will be cheering you on," Yasmine replied with a smile, her hand instinctively resting on her stomach.
Before Caleb returned to the field, he pulled Yasmine into a tender kiss, his hand discreetly resting on her stomach as if seeking solace in their shared bond.
As Caleb rejoined his teammates for one final drill, Yasmine watched with pride, her heart swelling with love for her husband. And as the whistle blew to signal the end of practice, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the love and support that surrounded them, knowing that together, they could conquer anything that came their way.
"David, Caleb, let's do it," Jude's voice rang out across the field, calling to his teammates with a sense of determination. David's agreement was swift, his confidence evident in his response. "Oh yeah, our opponents are definitely going to be surprised," he added, a smirk playing on his lips.
Caleb nodded in agreement, his focus solely on the task at hand. "Then let's stop talking and get the shot done," he urged his teammates, a sense of urgency in his voice as he prepared to execute their strategy.
"Ready?" Jude's inquiry was met with resounding affirmation from David and Caleb, their determination clear as they positioned themselves around the ball.
With a sharp whistle from Jude, the trio sprang into action, their movements coordinated and precise. Like a well-oiled machine, they executed their maneuver, each player contributing to the seamless execution of their plan.
"Emperor penguin number 3!" they shouted in unison, their voices echoing across the field as they launched into their kick. The ball soared through the air, propelled by the combined force of their efforts, aimed directly towards the goal.
But their victory was short-lived as Mark, their vigilant goalkeeper, intercepted the shot with ease, his skill evident in his swift reaction. "God catch!" he exclaimed triumphantly, halting the ball's trajectory with a deft move.
Disappointment briefly flickered across Caleb's face at the missed opportunity, but it was quickly replaced by determination. "Is that all you got?" Mark taunted from the goal, his challenge met with a determined grin from Caleb.
"It's going in next time," Jude declared with a laugh, his confidence unwavering despite their setback. With a nod of agreement, Caleb and David joined in his laughter, their spirits undiminished by the minor setback.
As the whistle blew to signal the end of practice, Caleb felt a sense of satisfaction wash over him. Despite the missed shot, the session had been productive, filled with valuable lessons and opportunities for growth.
"Good practice today, you guys. Keep it up tomorrow," Mark's words of encouragement resonated with Caleb as he gathered his belongings and made his way towards the bleachers where Yasmine was waiting.
With each step, he felt a renewed sense of determination, ready to face whatever challenges awaited him on the field, knowing that with the support of his teammates and the unwavering love of his wife, he was capable of achieving greatness.
Caleb slung his soccer bag over his shoulder, the weight of it a familiar comfort as he made his way towards the bleachers where Yasmine was patiently waiting. As he approached her, a smile brightened his features, eager to share his thoughts on the practice session.
"Hey honey, what did you think?" Caleb's voice held a hint of anticipation as he posed the question to his wife, his eyes alight with excitement.
Yasmine looked up from her magazine, a bemused expression on her face as she tried to decipher his meaning. "Of what?" she asked, her confusion evident.
Caleb chuckled softly at her confusion, realizing he hadn't provided enough context for his question. "The shot I did with Jude and David," he clarified, gesturing towards the field where their practice had taken place.
Understanding dawned on Yasmine's features as she recalled the impressive display of teamwork she had witnessed earlier. "It's improving," she replied with a warm smile, her pride in her husband evident in her words. "You guys will definitely win your next game with that shot."
Caleb's smile widened at her words, a sense of satisfaction washing over him at her vote of confidence. Taking Yasmine's hand in his, he led her towards their car, a sense of contentment settling over him as they walked side by side.
Once they reached the car, Caleb held the door open for Yasmine, a gesture of courtesy that never failed to make her smile. She settled into the passenger seat, the familiar interior of their car enveloping her in a sense of comfort.
As Caleb slid into the driver's seat, he glanced over at his wife, a sense of gratitude swelling within him for her unwavering support. With a sense of purpose, he started the engine, ready to embark on the journey home with his beloved by his side.
As Caleb helped Yasmine out of the car, his protective instincts kicked in, his arm instinctively wrapping around her waist. With a gentle smile, he guided her towards their front door, a sense of warmth enveloping them as they stepped foot into the familiar surroundings of their home.
Once inside, Caleb's concern for Yasmine and their unborn child was palpable, his hands moving to cradle her stomach with gentle reassurance. "Are you sure you and the baby are okay?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern.
"Babe, I've already told you, me and the baby are fine," Yasmine reassured him, her tone affectionate as she reached up to caress his cheek.
Caleb's eyes softened at her words, a sense of adoration shining in his gaze as he looked at her. "You know, you look beautiful with a baby bump," he said, his hand tenderly resting on her stomach.
Yasmine couldn't help but blush at his compliment, a surge of warmth spreading through her at his words. "You really think so?" she asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
"Of course," Caleb replied, his thumb gently tracing circles on her belly. "You're glowing."
With a final kiss on her forehead, Caleb reluctantly pulled away, a sense of reluctance evident in his movements. "I'm gonna go shower," he said, his voice tinged with regret as he reluctantly tore himself away from her.
As Caleb disappeared into the bathroom, Yasmine couldn't help but smile, her heart overflowing with love for the man who had become her rock. With a contented sigh, she settled onto the couch, the warmth of Caleb's embrace still lingering around her as she waited for him to return.
As Yasmine sat on the couch engrossed in her magazine, she felt a fluttering sensation in her stomach, a gentle reminder of the life growing within her. A smile spread across her face as she realized what it was — her baby's first movements. Excitement bubbled up inside her as she eagerly anticipated sharing this moment with Caleb.
When Caleb emerged from the bathroom and joined her on the couch, Yasmine was lost in her reading, her mind preoccupied with the sensation of their baby's movements. Caleb's voice broke through her thoughts, drawing her attention away from the magazine.
"Hey honey, what are you reading?" Caleb asked, his tone curious as he glanced over at her.
"Girls World," Yasmine replied, a hint of amusement in her voice.
"You still read those?" Caleb asked, a playful smile tugging at his lips.
"Yeah, what's wrong with that?" Yasmine retorted, her tone teasing.
"Nothing," Caleb replied, chuckling softly.
Suddenly, Yasmine felt the familiar fluttering sensation in her stomach once again, prompting her to share the moment with Caleb. "Honey, I think the baby is kicking," she announced, her voice filled with excitement.
Caleb's eyes widened with wonder as he processed her words. "Is the baby supposed to be kicking this early?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Babies usually start kicking at around 3-4 months," Yasmine explained, her hand moving to rest on her stomach.
As if on cue, another movement stirred within her, prompting her to grab Caleb's hand and guide it to her belly. Together, they felt the baby's gentle kicks, a tangible connection to the new life they were bringing into the world.
"That's amazing," Caleb murmured, his gaze filled with awe as he felt the movements beneath his fingertips.
"I know, right?" Yasmine agreed, her heart swelling with love for both her husband and the precious life growing inside her.
Unable to contain his excitement, Caleb bent down to Yasmine's stomach level and pressed a tender kiss to her baby bump, a silent vow of love and devotion to their unborn child.
"I have an ultrasound appointment in a few days. Do you want to come with me?" Yasmine asked, her eyes shining with anticipation.
"Of course, I'll come," Caleb replied without hesitation, his voice filled with love and excitement as they shared this journey together.
