CHAPTER 33: THE PLAN
"After the death of every member of Barrel's family, their entire property would go into the hands of charity," Nina said. They were underground. Oswald was listening to her carefully.
"So, why do you need their money?"
"I don't need theirs. I want mine. The whole money and property that my father had left for me as I'm now the only living Clark."
"So, you can't go and claim it."
"Are you crazy? For them, I've been kidnapped, and I've got a reason too. If I had stayed in that house after Kate's death, the police would have arrested me. Let's say if they didn't arrest me, then too, I can't have it because, according to my father's will, the money goes to a Clark with sound health, and being crippled without memory does not seem like sound health."
"Alright, it's relieving that everyone thinks of you as disabled. Otherwise, they could have suspected you of Kate's murder."
"No, not everyone. One knows the truth of mine, Lara. She is my handmaiden." Oswald jumped off the chair. "You have told your secret to a stranger."
"I had to. I had no other choice. She has no problem with that, and she also helped me escape. She trusts me. Later, I'm also going to use her in my plan."
"Plan? What kind of plan?"
"A plan to steal my own money." Oswald was unable to make anything up.
"Alright." She said, "First, you are going to call my father's lawyer, Dan, as a kidnapper with an untraceable phone number and command him to convert all the property and legal papers into cash and stuff them in a water-proof bag."
Oswald didn't say anything at once. He asked, "Do you know approximately how much money can be made by that?" as he continued to stare at her.
Nina gave it some thought. "Hmm...around fifty million dollars."
Oswald stared at her in astonishment. "You don't need to worry. The plan is foolproof." She assured him.
"Alright, but when he receives a call from me, the first thing he will do is inform the police."
"There's no problem with that. If he does it, we will steal the money from under the police's nose." Nina's overconfidence made him suspicious.
"Nina, are you sure about this?"
"Oswald, we don't have any money, and that's my money after all. It's a different thing that I have to steal, and now I'm not turning back at all."
"So, you are saying that 'your' money is considered a ransom in this theft."
"Yeah. Now, we need to get some things."
"Like?"
"A drone, vehicles, a team, an assassin, and some other equipment."
"Where are we going to put this heist into action?"
"The Queensferry Crossing Bridge."
That was enough to drive any man eccentric.
"Alright." Oswald threw his hands in the air. "A team. Let's do this first. How many members do we need?" Nina smiled at that.
"Guess?" she asked with a smirk.
"Ten or twenty."
She chuckled. "One hundred."
"Sorry?"
"We need quite a big team, Oswald. It's not going to be easy."
"What about the killer?"
"I'll look for that. Now, we need to gather a team as soon as we can." Oswald assured her.
Within twelve hours, Oswald showed his contact skills and formed a crew of one hundred men and women. That included small thieves from Edinburgh. They created a warehouse as their new planning space. Oswald summoned the assassin. It turned out that this was the same killer whom Kate had hired to kill Pablo, but the killer didn't know that Nina was the one who killed Kate. The assassin accepted Oswald's offer to take part in the plan because he had previously been hired by a girl to have her lover killed. Nina was ready to give everyone a bulky share, so he didn't turn it down. He just saw his profit.
That night, the entire team was called for final planning. All the arrangements were made. The preparations were started in the warehouse. Equipment was coming in and being sent out frequently. A gang of thieves was busy testing the suitcase. Oswald went to one of them. He was wearing headphones. Oswald pulled them off and asked him to speed up, as another batch of suitcases was arriving shortly. They nodded and went back to work. That thief put on his headphones, playing 'Bella Ciao' from La Casa De Papel. On the other hand, cars were getting modified. Nina called the killer and explained his part. She gave him a gun fitted with a silencer. The killer went busy testing it. "Nina, it seems risky now. Are you sure about it?" Oswald asked, worried.
"Don't worry, Oswald. Everything is under control. Just trust me. If I can kill someone and get away easily, I can also pull off this heist just like that." She left.
"What was she talking about? Who did she kill?" The killer asked Oswald while passing him a can of beer.
"Ah, nothing." He took the can from him and left to receive the batch of suitcases that had just arrived.
The killer stood still, confused.
"Good evening, everyone." Nina greeted everyone gathered there. "Tonight, we have joined here to finalize our plan. It's ready to be put into action. Tomorrow, we can afford no mistakes. There will be police all over. Stealing money from them is not going to be an easy task. Almost all of you know swimming, and that is going to be the biggest plus point for us. We can only get away with money if we can distract them, baffle their minds, or confuse them. This is going to be risky, as we can also lose our lives, but if we don't, our future is going to be quite fortunate. The most crucial thing is to stay away from the police. If you see a cop, leave that area as soon as possible." She pointed towards the killer. "You are the most important part of our plan, as you are going to be the kidnapper."
"I don't feel like taking any commands from an inexperienced girl." The killer said this and rolled his eyes.
"I have experience in killing too." They all started murmuring among themselves. That word from the killer touched her ego, and she forgot she needed to be careful while saying anything. "Want to know who?" Oswald tried to stop her, but it was late. "That, Kate! Then I escaped from there, and now I'm about to put this master plan into action." Her arrogance was reflected in her words. The team was hushed. Her words stunned the killer. He didn't lose his temper at once. He loved Kate like an animal. 'You bitch! You killed her. I'm not going to leave you. I need only an opportunity to shoot you. You made a terrible mistake by joining me in this plan.' He thought.
Nina went on to explain the plan to others. She laid a map of Edinburgh on the table and taught the escape routes to all of them. She allocated the spots where the gang members should wait for the money. It sounded foolproof to them until she explained the end of the heist. "Look, taking away the bag from the police's eyes is not as easy as I told you. So, we'll play our biggest distraction here. We'll land the kidnapper along with me on that site." She pointed at the killer. "You will drag me out of the car and aim the pistol on my skull."
'Golden opportunity! I got her.' The killer thought. She continued, "The police will aim the guns at you. Then, they will do the same thing they do with other criminals. They will ask you to put your gun down, but you're not going to do it. That is going to be the best way in which we are going to steal their time, and by that time, you are going to escape that area." She said this while pointing at a thief who was an expert swimmer. She continued, "I've also learned that you are quite avaricious for money. Am I correct?" That swimmer blushed. "You should be." She said, "As you are also going to carry out a quite important part of the heist,"
"The area will be filled with cops. How is he going to escape from there?" One of them asked.
"Because he is not going to escape in the same way the others do." Then she explained the escape plan to him. "Great!" He commented on that. The entire plotting was done. All were prepared.
Oswald approached Nina. "Nina, I can't trust that man. He is a serial killer, and if you get there, the police will surround you. You may fall into your trap."
"I have to trust him, and money is more important to me than anything. When the swimmer escapes with money from that site, the killer and I will both get back in the car and drive away. Our car will be bulletproof. In midway, we will switch the cars. The police will follow the original one while we head to our escape route. After getting there, I will give that man his share, and then it's all over. All these thieves will be waiting for us at our planned location, but no one will reach there. All the money will be ours." She smirked.
"Well done, but I'm still worried for you."
Oswald was about to leave when Nina stopped him. "I need one more thing from you. Do you have any contacts in the police department? I want something from there."
"Sorry, I don't have one, but I know a guy who has a fake police identity and can do our work."
"Who is he, and from where did you find him?" She asked.
"He is a man who has a fake identity as a cop. Sir John used him once when he wanted a witness who could prove that you died in that bridge accident. Sir John took that man with him to tell Kate that two deaths took place in that accident. If we offer him some money, then he will surely work for us and get us any evidence we want from the police department."
"Alright, then go on with it."
"Okay, but what do you want from there?"
Nina told him. He nodded.
The killer was at some distance, holding the can of beer. His eyes were red and on Nina. Insatiable rage filled him. His fists tightened, which popped up the can. The sharp edge of the can dug into his hand, but he felt no pain. The blood was dripping on his shoes and the floor. From that moment on, two plans were laid out in that warehouse. One to steal. One to kill.
It was only seven hours until the heist. Edinburgh was about to witness what they had never thought of.
