CHAPTER 25: LIFE AND DEATH
The police had tightly secured the area. The investigation was at its peak. The body was immediately sent for an autopsy. Sir Oswald was sitting in the living room. He was engrossed in deep thought. Suddenly, his phone buzzed. It was a call from the hospital. He picked it up, and the doctor, from the other side, informed him that his daughter was recovering. The doctor had asked him to reach the hospital as early as possible. It was really hard. He was under police surveillance. He went to the commissioner and talked to him anyhow. The commissioner thought for a while and granted permission at last. Oswald was allowed to go to the hospital along with two cops, who would look after him.

Victoria came out of the room with a suitcase stuffed with clothes. "Come on, we don't have time." Matt ordered.
"So, are you taking me to the place where you are going?"
"No, not there. Even that place is not safe for you. I want you to check into another hotel somewhere near the airport for only two days with a fake name. Some people in this hotel know our faces now. It's not safe for you to stay here alone anymore. When I return from there, I'll take you with me."
"Are you sure? Another hotel?"
"Yes, Victoria, you are not safe here either. I'll help you take a room in one more lavish hotel so that no one can find you. You must leave, as we are occasionally observed by housekeeping. Right now, hiding in a new place is best for you. Now, come on, leave."
They reached the reception desk, quickly got done with all the formalities, and rushed to the parking space.
After getting in the car, Matt took out a rubber mask from the bag. It was a new face for an old man.
"Why do you need this?"
"I need it on my way to the airport and while making reservations at the hotel." He handed her another mask of an Asian girl. "You don't want them to see your face either. Please be with me, Victoria. We are going through a very risky time here. You should also be entirely concealed in the hotel for two days. No interactions with anyone at all. The police are all around. I told you, I can't take any risk." They put on the mask, glued it tightly to their faces, and drove out.

They reached the hospital. Oswald dashed out of the police vehicle. The two cops followed him. He inquired at the reception. He went to the room where his daughter was admitted, along with the constables. The doctor met him outside. "It's a wonder that she is gaining back her health, but she still requires incessant care." Then he saw the policemen. "Is there any problem, Sir Oswald?"
"No. Of course not. Can I see my daughter?"
"Yeah sure." They went inside. A nurse was feeding her.
"Father!"
Oswald hugged her. "I missed you so much." He began crying. They had a lot of father-daughter talks. In some corner of his heart, he was very thankful to Nina. When he was about to leave for Barrel's place, Nancy hugged Oswald tightly and said, "Dad, this is the best time I ever had."

"This is the worst time I ever had!" Matt ejaculated. He was driving rashly.
"Matt, slow, or you'll get us into some trouble." Tires screeched as the car parked in front of the hotel. "Quickly! Grab your bags!"
"Wait, Matt."
"I don't have time to wait! I can't miss my flight. I'm getting late." They rushed to the reception and made urgent bookings. The receptionist gave Matt the room keys and receipt for the booking. He snatched it and dashed to the room. He was too impatient to wait for the lift and went for the stairs. At last, they were in the room. "Okay, Victoria, I'm leaving. It's only a matter of two days. Don't go out. Don't let anyone know anything about you. Did you get that?" Matt advised her while holding her hands.
"I'll be fine, Matt. I'm not a small child." They hugged and kissed over the masks. Matt left. After that, she called Kate. "I'm somewhere else, but Matt has left. I don't know what's on his mind or in which things he is involved."
"Listen, I told you only to make him your slave so that we can seize his property one day. Now, it's your headache. How will you do it?"
"Mom, he is already mad at me. He even committed murders when I ordered him."
"So, I believe everything is going well."
"Same as we planned." Victoria confirmed.
"So, we'll do the last part when he returns. Then, everything will be ours. I want no problems, as I am not going to pull you out of it if anything goes wrong because of you. Did you get that?"
"Yeah mom." She hung up.

That morning, something else worse happened. It was dawn, and the sky was covered with redness. It was just before daybreak. A fisherman rowed his boat from the center of the lake to the bank after catching a bucket full of fish. He got off the boat and took out the buckets. His duty was done. He was about to leave when he saw something moving below the surface of the lake. He approached closer. The sensation was visible very close to the bank. He put his one leg in the water. In a moment, that thing rose to the surface. The fisherman screamed and retreated back. He was terribly scared. "Holy shit!" He whispered. Before him was floating a swollen dead body. It had reached the surface due to buoyancy. The body was fat, like a balloon. The fisherman was sweaty due to fear. He literally threw up when he saw a knife stuck in the corpse's eye socket.

Matt reached the airport. He got rid of the mask, washed his face with the water bottle, and came out of the car. He dashed inside and reached the verification counter. There, he got to know that his flight had been canceled.
Matt almost lost his breath on that announcement. The airlines have managed to board another flight in three hours. He had no choice but to wait. There was no such security in the airport till then who was searching for the killer. After three hours, the scanning of his fingers was done, and his passport was also checked without any problem. He was permitted to board his flight from gate 4. It was a clear green signal for him. He was the last passenger the flight was waiting for. 'Bingo! I got into no trouble.' He thought as he entered the gate. He got into the aircraft, and the air hostess welcomed him. After showing his ticket, he sat in his seat in the middle row. He sighed in relief.
The announcement was made that the plane was about to take off within two minutes, and the passengers were requested to switch off their phones. Matt thought to inform Victoria that he boarded the flight without any problems, and she needed not to worry anymore about him. Everything is going to be fine. He texted her and switched-off his phone. He put on his seatbelt, and the plane took off.
Matt was looking at the puffy clouds through the window. He was far from the world that was after him. He was in the safest place. Then, no one could harm him. A certain kind of happiness had awakened inside him. He took out his headphones and connected them to his Walkman. An air hostess served him a glass of champagne. Actually, she was serving everyone. Matt took a sip. He loved it. He loved that atmosphere, but it didn't last long. Moments later, he heard music.
Music that was not melodious at all. He checked it out. It was not coming from his headphones. It was not even music. That sound gave him goosebumps. He understood what it was. He was more scared then than he was when he learned about his mother's death. His fingers began trembling. The people sitting beside him observed him suspiciously. He was drenched with sweat, with his eyes bulging out and his throat going dry. It was coming from the seat just behind him. It was a whistle. A weird tune, which was quite high-pitched, was filled with undulating loudness and faded away with a terrible ending. And only one person could blow it.
