Waterfall wasn't Chara's favorite place to be in the underground. It was wet and humid, had mushy grounds that was probably ramming itself into her shoes with every step she took and made her take off her sweater to reveal a white tank top underneath. She tied it around her waist and continued walking, a pissed look on her face. Waterfall was not her favorite place at all!

Despite that, she did get excited when she saw the waterfalls or the gems and glowworms that fabricated the false stars. She loved talking to the flowers and she made a mental note to stop by tem village, something that Frisk had completely missed when she was down here.

Chara stopped walking when she didn't hear Papyrus' footsteps anymore. She turned to him, a quizzical look on her face as she saw him sitting down, looking at the fake stars. They were near a bright blue waterfall and on a bridge so the scene was very beautiful to Chara as she decided to sit down with him, not seeing any reason to leave.

"THE STARS OVERGROUND ARE MUCH PRETTIER THAN THESE ONES BUT THEY STILL HAVE THIER OWN BEAUTY," Papyrus said. His echoing voice notified her that there was an echo flower that caught his sentence and repeated it back. Chara smiled at that, knowing that this moment was being recorded.

"Did you know that it's all just big balls of hot air a million miles away?"

"NO ITS NOT! I CAN TOUCH THESE ONES, NO PROBLEM!" Papyrus said, reaching up so that his fingers lightly touched the gems, making sure that he didn't accidently make one fall.

"No, the ones overground. Those ones are millions of miles away. The sun is also a big ball of hot air, it's just bigger than the rest," Chara said, a ghost of a smile presenting itself to the skeleton beside her.

"YOU SEEM TO KNOW A LOT,"

"Before I died, I was a bit of a science nerd. Especially if it came to space. I've always wanted to travel through our Galexy and explore planets. Maybe collect a space rock or two for examination to better understand the world outside our own," Chara said, blushing slightly out of embarrassment. She's kept her space intrest to herself out of fear for so long, thinking it would've been another reason to be bullied in overground when she was in school. Now, however, Papyrus just smiled at her.

"SO YOU'D LIKE TO BE AN ASTRONAUT!"

"I'm not sure about that... Maybe I would... Though, I haven't decided on what I really want to be but an astronaut seems nice,"

"YOU'D BE AN ASTRONAUT PRINCESS!"

"I guess I would be, wouldn't I? What are you planning to be?"

"I WANT TO BE A CHEF SINCE EVERYONE LOVES MY COOKING BUT I'D ALSO LIKE TO BE OTHER THINGS! ITS REALLY HARD DECIDING THROUGH THE COUNTLESS OPTIONS!" Papyrus let his options be known to her, listing careers and reasons why he wants this or that. Chara listened to everything he said, making sure not to zone out on him.

"That's all great, Papyrus,"

"DO YOU KNOW WHAT FRISK WANTS TO BE?"

"She seems to be content with her position as a monster ambassador. I think she doesn't want to change that anytime soon. After all, there's only one position like that in the world,"

"WAIT SO IS FRISK AN AMBASSADOR OR A PRINCESS?"

"I don't know. Both I guess," Chara said, standing back up on the bridge. "I used to come here with Asriel all the time,"

"REALLY? IT MUST HAVE BEEN NICE,"

"It was," Chara said, remembering the countless hours they'd spend together exploring the underground. She picked up her bookbag and held out her hand for Papyrus to take. "Come on, stand up. We need to keep going," Chara said as Papyrus took her hand to help himself up.

"THANK YOU,"

"You're welcome," It was strange, thinking that the skeleton in front of her was younger than her. She remembered Sans and Papyrus as baby bones, back when she was alive with Asriel. She also remembered that the royal scientist at the time, Dr. Gaster, was taking care of them. She assumed he was thier father but she didn't know because he never said. It had always been a slight mystery. While Asriel and her were children, the skeleton brothers were just babies.

It was a thought that made her feel slightly weird. They did have time to grow seeing as she was dead for maybe all that time so now, it seemed they were just as old as her, if not older. She knew that Sans probably remembered her from his childhood but Papyrus probably didn't. He was younger than Sans, after all. Besides, monsters seemed to live forever if not killed beforehand.

Killed...

Fuck, why did she have to think of that? It only disappointed herself when those thoughts seemed to take over. She sighed and decided to empty her mind for a moment, swallowing her own spit as she crossed her arms.

It's not that she felt uncomfortable whenever she thought of it, just slightly disappointed. A monster-filled underground wasn't exactly where she wanted to gather and collect dust. She was trying to be a better person and not reaching for that knife was a step but she still kept it close. Not all monsters are friendly just like how not all humans are friendly.

She sighed as she looked back at Papyrus. She had the friendliest monster of all by her side and yet she still had trouble not thinking of having another genocide run. She felt so ungrateful but shook her head as she pulled Papyrus another way.

"This way. It's Temmie village. I want to see it again, since Frisk didn't go to it the last time they were down here,"

"OKAY, LEAD THE WAY, HUMAN," Papyrus said, letting her pull him slightly by his shirt. She was so short compared to him, having only reaching the end of his ribcage. It was kind of cute in his eyes, though, almost all humans were shorter than him.

Chara smiled as she walked, humming a soft tune while she passed by the Echo flowers, whispering whatever came to her mind to them. Papyrus could tell she held the Temmies close to her heart. Even as she shopped, she spoke to the Temmies like they were all old friends. She showed them affection like he had never seen from the usually quiet girl, which made him wonder if she liked animals. Temmies looked like an odd combination of cats and dogs so it was quite possible.

"DO YOU LIKE ANIMALS, CHARA?" Papyrus asked, voicing his thoughts to her. Chara turned to him, giving him a soft smile.

"Yes. Animals make me happy. I used to have a puppy of my own when I lived overground. You know, before I fell down many years ago. You don't remember me but I was there when you were a complete baby bones. Anyways, my puppy was a chocolate lab. Her name was Sugar. Her full name was Sugar Plum Princess and, obviously, I had named her," Chara looked at Papyrus, who had a confused look on his skeletal face. "Don't judge, I was very young! Anyways, she was the best dog I ever had. Really, my only friend. She died from unknown causes and we never found her but I always had a sneaking suspicion that my neighbor, Will, had shot her for trespassing on his yard one too many times," Chara said, finishing her story.

Chara didn't tell Papyrus this, but Sugar was the only thing that really tied her down to the world at that time. It was the only thing that kept her from jumping down the hole full of monsters. After that dog died, that was when Chara did too. Haha... If I said any of this, he'd think I'm mad... Chara thought as she continued to walk.

"SO, YOU LOVED THAT DOG?"

"I had been the one to rescue her. It was hell to get my parents to agree but as soon as I said I'd take care of her and I'd cover all expenses, they didn't care,"

"HOW DID YOU COVER THE COST WHEN YOU WERE ONLY A CHILD?"

"I did whatever work came my way. No matter what, I saw an opportunity to earn money and I grabbed it. It was a pain to sit in that house with Toriel, Asgore and Frisk and not be able to do something useful. They said I needed to adjust or something like that. It actually feels a lot better... being with you and having a clear quest to follow... It gives me something to do every day..." Chara said, looking down at the ground and tightening the grip on her backpack. Damnit.... Don't become his friend... Doom will be his only fate if you're involved.... Chara thought as she started to walk faster, hating herself more with each step.

"HEY! WAIT UP!" Papyrus said but all Chara did was keep walking. Damn me and my emotions. Damn me and my thoughts. Damn me and my- All those monologues kept repeating in her head, shifting her light-hearted attitude to one of sorrow and self hate rather quickly. "HEY, WHAT'S WRONG?" Papyrus asked, noting her quick mood change and wondering what a human could have that could cause it. He may have to ask his brother later on.

"It's nothing. Let's continue..." In all honesty, Chara didn't want this adventure to be over. She felt liberated exploring with Papyrus. It felt true and wonderful and she felt like she was finally getting close to someone, just like how she felt with Asriel. Yet, getting close to someone was a bad thing now, ever since Asriel had passed because of her. She didn't want Papyrus to suffer but it seemed it was going to happen eventually. Chara had told him so much in so little time and Papyrus had even shared some things with her. Damn.... If only we didn't connect well... Why couldn't he of hated me like Sans?

A/N: There were a lot of things I made up about Chara in this chapter to both give her a deeper personality and a back story. I hope you guys don't mind. Also, there are a lot of things hinted about Chara, like mental stuff. If you can see it, I'm glad. If you can't, I'm still glad that you read the chapter. I'm juggling a lot of book with a lot of drafts that need finishing so I'm sorry I'm not updating frequently! Thank you for reading and goodbye.
