Go
Steph's fingers fumble with the car's door lock. "Do something, Syl!" She screams, just before her head is taken underwater, with the current. The little bear that hangs underneath the mirror floats in the most unnatural way ever. Somehow, my door opens and I get out. Thinking Steph's door has also been unlocked, I instantly swim to the surface, basically choking all the way up. We've been underwater for around four minutes. And then I look to my side. And Steph's gone... The car goes further down till it reaches the bottom of the lake.
"Sylvia! No one zones out on the way to their birthday party! Or while driving with their twin in the passenger seat!" Steph is still screaming. Only she doesn't sound an eighth as horrified as she had been. In my vision.
The last six times I had such dreams, they literally came true.
Trust me, I would know. Our cat who didn't love me enough, died...
So did grandma...
But this time it was Steph. And Steph is different.
I love Steph. Steph loves me...
So Steph can't die. Right?
I need to concentrate on the road.
When I don't answer, she looks concerned. "Vision?"
We're on a fairly wide bridge, right above the lake. I can literally see the hotel, covered in purple flowers for the celebrations.
But it's not safe.
I nod. "Can we stop for a while?"
And then the phone rang. Steph picks it up. "Hello?"
I lean a bit closer to her, trying to figure out who it was.
But the only word that can define everything after that is fast.
With the speed of light, a truck showed up from the other side. The car swerved to the right sharply. It hit the railing.
And then the railing broke.
The phone flew from Steph's hands and to the backseat. The car plummeted into the deep waters. Inch by inch.
And then, it happened. My door flew open. Steph's didn't.
Steph mouths something. 'Go.'
No.
I stay. Black patches my vision and Steph's eyes close. Her fingers finally wrap around mine.
I can't just 'go'...
