I wake up with Connor draped over me. I slide out from under him and sit in the windowsill watching him sleep. I then remember how freaking naked I am so I put on some boxers and pull the blanket up over Connor's chest.
"I love you," I whisper into Connor's ear as I kiss his jaw lightly. I walk downstairs and find a note from my mom saying she won't be home until 10, which is pretty early for her. I walk around my living room and kitchen aimlessly. The silent house is soothing and nice. Warm morning sunlight seeps through cracks in the window blinds. I water my moms plants, as I always do, and sit on the couch. Our house always seemed messy and gross to me. But, now I admire its humble cluttered furniture and the faded paint on the walls. I think I'm finally happy. I have a perfect boyfriend, a perfect house, life is ok. I'm okay.
I hear creaking footsteps as Connor makes his way down the stairs. I look up and grin at him, he's standing at the bottom of the stairs in a binder and boxers looking sleepy and adorable. I pat the space next to me on the couch as I move over. I watch the tears spring to his eyes and he wipes them away. I jump up and hug him tight and he crumbles into my shoulder. We just stand here with our arms tight around each other as he sobs into my shoulder. I walk him over to the couch where I sit him down next to me.
"What happened?" I ask.
"I'm getting top surgery," Connor says.
"What the f- wait when did you find out?"
"Just now, my mom called here."
"How did I not hear the phone ring?"
"I picked it up."
"I would have heard it before??"
"Evan, your house phone is quiet."
"Right," I laugh. "BUT THATS NOT IMPORTANT YOURE GETTING FUCKING TOP SURGERY!!"
"Evan, you said 'fucking'," Connor rubs his nose. I laugh and kiss him.
"When?" I ask. "When are you getting it?"
"This summer," Connor grins. "You better come."
"Connor," I inhale. "I need to tell you something."
"Oh boy," Connor says.
"I'm moving to California," I say, unable to exhale. "For college, but, I'm taking a gap year just to live there. You should come live with me!"
"I- I can't just do that Evan," Connor says.
"But," I look down.
"We can do long distance for a while, but we don't have to think about that right now. Let's go to karaoke!" Connor grins, and I exhale.
"Karaoke? That was random," I giggle. "Can you even sing?"
"Evan Hansen! What do you mean 'can you even sing'? I'm gonna fucking serenade you."
"Oh, okay," I blush.
