Chapter Fourteen-The Attack

It had been a month sense we had returned home from Jade Mountain. Raindew and Darkshadow were happy to be home. Deathbringer had eventually talked me into letting him train them. I had eventually agreed, and almost every day they went off to train with him.

It had quickly become apparent that Raindew had much more interest in training then Darkshadow did. As a result Raindew started training more frequently, learning complex skills. Darkshadow still showed some interest, but did not train near as often as she did. Instead he loved scrolls and was often up late reading them. They both went to school and received extra classes from Deathbringer on things that a royal would need to know, which mostly involved history, geography, and who was the Queen.

I had also begun to teach Raindew how the kingdom worked and she quickly learned what my duties were. Since both of them were royalty they were forced to have jewelry for special occasions. Raindew had a simple tiara made out of flowers and a matching necklace and bracelet. Darkshadow had an armband made out of silver that had three rubies in it, and he was only slightly more willing to wear it then Raindew. I of course, had to have a crown for official business, and I got stuck with a simple flower crown.

Raindew and Darkshadow were both happy while Deathbringer and I were just happy that they were happy. Everything seemed perfect until the attack on the rain forest.

Deathbringer and I went to sleep as the three moons began to rise in the night sky. I was tired after a long day of dealing with the Rainwings and Nightwings. About an hour after I had gone to sleep a noise awoke me. It sounded like a tree branch falling. I soon smelled smoke, and shook Deathbringer awake.

"Deathbringer wake up." I whispered.

"What?" He replied sleepily.

"I think there's a fire." I said.

Immediately he woke up. Together we walked over and looked out the window. Sure enough a few trees were on fire.

"You wake up Raindew and Darkshadow, and I'll try to go put out the fire." I said before flying off.

I flew down to were dragons had started to gather in the middle of town. I landed on the ground and started barking out orders to everyone. Within minuets the dragons had spread out to complete their assigned jobs.

I joined the group that was assigned to put out the fire, and met a dragon flying with a bucket of water in her hands. I quickly dumped it on the fire and handed it to another another dragon that was assigned to go get more water.

As the hours droned on we all fell into a system. One dragon would get the water and fly up to another dragon. That dragon would dump the water on the fire. Then they would hand the bucket to another dragon who would get more water. As the first rays of daylight crosses over the now smoldering trees we finally managed to put the fire out.

Tired I returned to my hut to find Deathbringer standing there with a Skywing in his clutches. The Skywing looked mad and I noticed that he had clearly fought Deathbringer over coming here from the many scratches across his body.

"Glory I found him trying to escape with four others." Deathbringer said. He too had several cuts, but he still looked in much better condition then the Skywing.

"Put him in the dungeon." I replied. "I'll interrogate him later."

Deathbringer nodded and promptly flew off with the Skywing.

This attack was clearly on purpose. Now we had to get the Skywing to answer all of our questions.

I decided to add some more excitement to this. I know that it was completely unexpected, but I felt like the story needed some more action. Thank you guys for reading and commenting. It means a lot to me.
