Death and Chaos

Kira laid motionless in the underbrush. Everything around her thrummed with the oncoming chaos. A pen lurked nearby with bright purple eyes. She found it to be odd, considering the usual characteristics of a pen shows them having red eyes.

This pen's body looked more human than beast. It's torso that of a fit man's. The arms whipped in and out of view in wisps of dark gray smoke with traces of purple. The beast roared, shaking the burning trees nearby. Bringing about screams from trees that used to be silent.

"Wake up snitches!" The pen growled, spinning around to lock eyes with Kira. Her heart leapt, adrenaline rushing through her veins. She was ready to spring into action. Yet she stayed stalk still, pretending to be dead.

Taehyung lurked in the bushes nearby, his dark eyes pleading with her to stay still. While yet another soldier gets ripped in half. Why didn't he use his god-like abilities to help, confused her. Something about this whole situation was amiss

Another soldier cried out in pure agony. A sound forever imprinted in her mind, not to mention the wet ripping sound that came along with it. There's too many of them.

How could they defeat 5 pens? None of them were trained to defeat a creature that vanished at the swing of a sword.

Sweat beaded on Kira's forehead. If she didn't do something soon she would go crazy with guilt. All around her the forest erupted into tiny cries. Some trying to give the men directions. While one small voice called her name.

"Kira!" It cried, she looked all around for the source. Only to find a tiny light within a berry blinking quickly.

"I'm Tigs! I can help you!"

"What are you?" Kira rubbed her eyes, making sure she hadn't lost her marbles. But when she dropped her hand once more, the little tea light was still there.

"I'm a tea light. Whisper of the trees, if you will."

"It's too dangerous to be here, little light." She informed Tigs.

"It is quite dangerous, miss. Things are not what they portray themselves to be."

A rustle of branches nearby made the tea light disappear. Kira looked around, careful not to make any noise.

"I'm still here." Tigs voice was louder. The slight tickle in her ear let Kira know it was sitting just inside.

"Why are you here?"

"I want to help."

"How can a creature such as you help?" She asked not to try to offend.

"I once helped the goddess of meadows."

"Jinx?"

"The very same."

"You helped her?"

"Yes, I said that already." Tigs whispered a bit agitated. He remembered the goddess Jinx to be more trusting. This girl here didn't seem to trust anyone or anything.

Tree limbs groaned from the weight of a body being brushed against it. Snapping under pressure they fell hard to the ground covered in brittle leaves. A gut wrenching cry echoed through the smoke filled air, sending a shiver down Kira's spine.

She knew nothing of tea lights. Never heard about them in stories her father use to tell. Now was not the time to ponder these things. She would have to go with her gut instinct. It rarely steered her wrong.

"Okay... how can you help?"

Kira listened to the tiny thing in her ears clap it's micro hands. Tigs was happy to hear of her trust.

"The pen before you is not a pen." He whispered matter of factly.

"What is it then?"

"Have you heard of the god of mischief?"

"Yes..." Kira watched the beast in front of her rip a tree out the ground, hurtling it towards Taehyung. She covered her mouth in horror.

"That is him."

"He's hideous."

"He's actually quite handsome, however he has a bad disposition."

Kira scoffed.

"You have to beat him with your wits. If you try to attack he will just rip you to pieces."

"Am I supposed to just walk out to him and ask if he fancies a chat?" Kira asked sarcastically.

"I have not met him in this form. In theory it should work."

"In theory—right."

Kira looked over where Taehyung had been hiding. He had disappeared.

"Oh for the love of pork buns..." she sighed, standing slowly. Keeping her long sword sheathed. Kira stepped out from the bushes. The pen whipped around quickly bearing jagged teeth, ready to tear her apart.

It didn't. It's purple eyes bore into her, trying to find a weakness. Maybe an ounce of fear. She would give it nothing. Finally the pen snarled, spinning in circles until a cloud of purple smoke surrounded it.

There in place of the pen stood a young man with a mischievous bunny like grin. Hair dark as that of a ravens feather.

"Hello pretty lady." He mused, moving closer to her. Behind him the pens growled, pawing the ground with their claws.

"Why are you doing this?"

He smiled acting like he had no clue what she was talking about.

"What?"

"Why are you killing all these men?"

"Oh that." He waved his hand. "I'm proving a point."

"What point?"

"That I am not to be cast aside for some fucking tree or a nine tailed fox that can't keep its nose out of fates design."

Kira caught Taehyung out the corner of her eye. He pressed his finger to his lips as he crept closer to one of the pens. Off to the right a solder did the same movements. Realizing now what her task was, she looked the god of mischief in the eye and said.

"I thought it was meddling gods that messed up fates design?"

"I did nothing." He argued.

"You're a god aren't you?"

"I'm the best one there is. I'm Jungkook, god of Mischief."

"Oh that's not what I heard." Kira looked at her fingernails, pursing her lips. "I heard that the god of the Seas was the best."

Jungkook spat on the ground in disgust.

"That fool nearly ruined everything!"

"How?"

"He saved a girl. Her blood was meant to appease the bloodlust of a god long lost to the darkness. But noooo... he couldn't part with the girl. So of course. His memory was blown to smitherines. Leaving him to lead a mundane life with a fake wife and his fairy friend as a daughter." Jungkook sneered, taking another step closer to Kira.

Kira knitted her eyebrows together. That story was familiar to her... that. That was Jimin and the girl was Kira. She knew that. But how he told it was completely different from the other gods.

"You lie!" She Cienfuegos out. The purple-eyed god grinned in triumph at her little emotional outburst. He leaned down to her eye level.

"Prove. It." He winked, standing up straight. Several trees fell nearby, embers flew into the air in a swirl of gray and white smoke.

Jungkook spun around to see Taehyung standing with his arms folded across his chest with one foot on the severed head of a pen.

"Where's your humanity, Jungkook." Taehyung reprimanded the god of mischief. "These creatures should have been cast into the shadows below like the Great Creator commanded. Do you want to end up like
Thibault."

The god of Mischief shrugged, picking at a piece of ash on his robes.

"Seulgi just doesn't want others to have love, because she was denied." Kira shouted, jumping to her feet with her long sword drawn.

Jungkook growled in frustrations.

"Why do we have to protect these mindless blood bags!"

"The only blood bag here is you!" Kira charged at Jungkook in a fit of rage, completely oblivious to the pen waiting in anticipation for any wrong move.

Taehyung rammed a sword through its head, spinning around with a fatal blow to Jungkook who tried to finish the job that the pen had started.

Whispers erupted all around as the god collapsed beside the young girl. Her breath was shallow, the wound oozing both black and crimson. If Taehyung could get her to a healer, she might survive.

A gust of salty wind rushed through the forest of ever burning trees, taking the form of a man on his knees before them.

"You said you'd protect her, Tae!"

Taehyung looked up at the god of Seas. The despair written all over his face.

"She went before I could take care of—"

Jimin picked up Kira, cradling her in his arms. He took one final look at Taehyung and vanished in a cyclone of salt water. The god of Stars knew his brother to be angry with him. He understood why. Looking around at the carnage, Taehyung cringed. Why did it have to end this way for Jungkook? Why couldn't he put away his selfish endeavors and see the greater good.

Sure he was the god of Mischief... but there had to be some good in him. Sighing heavily, Taehyung disappeared to the underworld to speak with the god who ran it.

Yoongi paced around the war room with Giles watching his every move.

"Why hasn't there been a report?" Yoongi demanded, slamming his hands down on the map, knocking all the regimen pieces over.

"Perhaps it is taking longer to rid the land of the problem, your majesty." Giles offered. Yoongi grunted in frustration, carefully adjusting the pieces on the map.

"Kira would have sent word. Yet all there is, is silence."

"Give it another day."

"It's been two weeks, Giles!" Snapped Yoongi. Giles recoiled at the King's angry outburst.

"I could send a scout, Sire."

Yoongi waved him away, while rubbing his temples with his other hand. The lights in the room flickered, becoming brighter and then slowly dimming once more.

"Yoongi." A familiar voice spoke in the stillness. The king peered over his hand to see Hoseok standing near the map. At the sight of the god, Yoongi shot up out of the chair he found himself in.

"Where have you been?!"

Hoseok put his hands up.

"I've been busy with the sunlight. It was needed to help things grow."

Yoongi narrowed his eyes.

"What do you know?"

Hoseok skirted around the question with another one of his own.

"Have you been to the garden lately?"

"Don't avoid my question with another."

The god of Sunshine gave a small smile, looking down at the floor. The tiles were ceramic with different types of flowers cut into them. A design specially requested by the majesty himself. In preparation for a day he hoped would soon. Hoseok hoped that to be true as well.

"It was a slaughter. All your men were slain by the pens..."

"All?" Yoongi questioned, the word troublesome to get out.

"Well... I know a god was decapitated in the chaos."

"What of Kira?" He could barely speak, it felt as if a rock had been lodged in his throat. Hoseok didn't like keeping Yoongi in the dark. If only he could explain the situation further.

"I— don't know."

Yoongi's knees buckled, falling to the ground in agony.
Not only had he lost his love. But now his closest comrade over the years.

"Why does everyone I love or care about keep getting taken away from me?"

Hoseok sat on the floor next to the weeping King.

"All is not lost. Do not despair."

The King traced the flowers on the tile in front of him, his tears clouding his vision. There had to be something Hoseok wasn't telling himx

Kira is the best swordsman out there. There's no way she could have died. Magical creature be damned. Instead of wallowing on the floor a second longer. The king squared his shoulders and marched right out into his beautiful garden. A garden grown with the help and love of all his friends.
