Chapter 7

*Anvi Pov*

"How is everything there? Was there any issue?" I asked stepping into my room after finishing the dinner with the people I met today.

I am glad to come here and participate in the conference. It was a good exposure and maybe this could help with my plans more.

I can also interact with many prominent speakers tomorrow and can clear any kind of doubts. However, I am still worried leaving the hotel just like that and coming here which I didn't do for the past two years.

"Everything is fine. I said there will be no issues, right? Also, you just went for the weekend. How is the weather there? I heard the cyclone will shift to Mumbai by tomorrow." Jhanvi asked in a worried tone.

"It is just raining but not much. Tomorrow I will immediately return after evening session. I already booked the flight." I assured her.

I stared at the window looking at the rain thinking this feels too familiar from last year. Didn't we meet in the similar circumstances?

The only difference is we both have our own plans and are going forward with it. Also, he feels bit different but it is not my place to think too much.

According to the words I heard, I think he is even getting married. I sighed shaking my head and continued to chat with Jhanvi before cutting the call as I needed to get some rest.

As I lay down on the bed, I continued to stare at the window for a few more minutes before drifting off into sleep.

The next day, the session continued like yesterday and I finally get to ask the questions I noted down and even got a few cards from some investors that were interested when I gave a brief introduction about my future plans.

I thanked them sincerely and walked out of the conference only to pause as I found him standing a few steps away from the conference room entrance.

"Hi!" I said as he approached me.

"Hi! Is it over?" he asked looking behind me and found many others walking out of the conference room.

"Yeah!" I replied and then glanced down to check the time.

"Well, I need to get ready and catch my flight." I added as he stayed silent.

"I thought we could catch up with some dinner." I shook my head saying, I will just take a quick bite and go to the airport directly.

"Okay!" he said nodding.

If he really wanted to catch up, there was a chance to do that yesterday, right? I have time to stay for sometime and have dinner with him but I don't feel like doing it.

"Goodbye!" saying that I started walking away.

"Anvi! It was nice to see you." He commented and I just nodded at him and continued to walk.

When I reached my room, I took my packed bag and got downstairs to go to the hotel for quick dinner.

I continued to walk to the hotel and had dinner and walked out only to suddenly pause as I checked the message received.

Flights are canceled? Why? I frowned checking the browser and found the precautionary measures are being taken because of the cyclone.

Great! I immediately checked for buses but found there is no availability. But there is an availability for tomorrow morning.

I immediately booked it before I miss the chance. Now, the issue is to extend my stay at the hotel.

With that thought, I approached the reception desk only to find many people already querying about it.

"I am extremely sorry, Sir. There are no availability of rooms."

"I am extremely sorry, Madam. There are no availability of rooms."

I just heard those words being expressed to everyone that approached the reception desk. I just stood there while thinking of another option.

"Anvi! Even your flight is canceled?" I turned around to find the people with whom I stayed during these two days in the conference.

"Yes! I booked for bus tomorrow morning but there are no rooms available. I think I will go to any nearby hotel to check." I said taking out my phone to book a cab.

"No use! We already checked and finally found one with two rooms available where we are going to stay. However, it is a single bedroom and we are already staying three for room. The hotel made concession to allow three for room against the rules." She said in a guilty tone for not able to help me.

"It's okay! I will continue to check." I assured her smiling.

"Come fast! The cab is waiting." The others rushed her and she again apologized but asked me to message her if I get a room.

I looked down to book a cab thinking maybe I can find some hotel near the bus. I frowned as I couldn't even catch a cab.

I glanced outside and found it is suddenly raining heavily. Anyway, the bus is at 7 in the morning. Maybe the hotel staff will allow me to stay in the lounge?

I approached the reception desk and calmly explained my situation. They gave an apologetic look saying, "We can't allow that as it is against our rules."

I took a deep breath and nodded at her. Well, I will definitely include this change in my hotel. Now is not the time to think about all this. Where shall I stay for the next twelve hours?

"Anvi!" I got startled hearing a voice suddenly and I turned to find Abhay walking towards me and he was drenched.

"What are you still doing here?" I asked staring at him.

"Flights are canceled!" He suddenly said.

"You don't stay in Mumbai? Your flight is canceled?" I asked in a confused tone.

He suddenly stopped hearing my words and cleared his throat saying, "I stay in Mumbai only."

"Okay!" I said still feeling confused and glanced down to continue to check the hotel near the bus stand.

Even if it is not a a good hotel, it is fine. I thought and finally found a lodge near the bus stand. As I was about to book, my phone was suddenly taken away from my hand.

"You want to stay here? Are you mad?" he asked frowning at me.

"I already booked for the bus tomorrow. It is just for a few hours." I said reaching out to take my phone worried that his wet hands would ruin my phone.

"Are you sure buses will definitely be fine tomorrow? What if the situation is similar to last year when I stayed at your place?" He asked frowning.

"Then what? Should I come and stay at your home now?" I asked back and he paused.

"I stay with my family." He replied and I sighed taking the phone back and made sure to clear away the water droplets.

When I tried to book the room, I found that it is no longer available. I frowned at him seeing this and continued to search.

"Wait! Don't select anything." He said taking out his phone but I ignored him.

What if I don't get any room at the end? I ignored him talking in the phone and found a decent hotel this time but it is too far. Will I get a cab to go there?

"It's done!" I suddenly heard the words.

"What's done?" I asked glancing at him.

"You can stay here. There is a suite available here." saying that he approached the reception desk and got a key after he talked to them for a few minutes while they called someone.

He walked back towards me holding a key. He gestured me to follow the person who walked towards us after the reception desk called him.

I followed them silently into the elevator and finally reached a floor and stood before the suite he is talking about.

After entering the suite, I looked around before asking, "How did you manage this? They just said no rooms are available."

"This is reserved for the owners of the hotel. I just asked them and they allowed for it." He explained and picked the phone as it started ringing.

He placed it on the table in speaker mode because it is slipping from his hands. I heard a female voice asking whether they got the room.

"Got it! Thanks for this favor." He replied.

"Isn't it fun? My future husband wants to stay in my hotel room with his lover. How can I not help?" he immediately reached over to cut the call while I stood there feeling shock after hearing those words.

I remember the person I met yesterday morning. She is the owner? Why is she saying such words? Lover? In what way?

"Thank you for your help." I said opening the door.

"It's not what it is." He said approaching the door.

"It's okay! Please convey my thanks to your fiancé also." I said in a calm tone and he stopped in his tracks and turned to glance at me.

"She is not my fiancé." He stated.

"Okay! Your future fiancé or friend. Just convey my thanks. Without your help, I would have faced a major issue." I said still in calm tone.

"Didn't you help me too without even knowing me?" he asked back and I nodded without saying anything else and waited for him to walk out.

"Are you going on a date after going back?" he suddenly asked and I stared at him in confusion.

"Yes!" I replied honestly.

"Didn't you say you were not ready for a relationship? Or was it just to make sure I don't pester you?" he continued to ask.

I sighed rubbing my head with my free hand as I am still holding the door open for him to leave as it would close if I let it go.

"It's been a year, Abhay. Things change, right? You have a fiancé and I am going to start a relationship if everything goes well. Why are we even having this conversation?" I asked him frowning.

"I don't have a fiancé. Also, you are right! Things change in a year. I thought all things changed but after meeting you one thing didn't change for me. What about you?" He asked staring at me without backing away.

"I don't know what you are talking about. Will you leave or shall I leave?" I asked staring back at him.

"Things definitely changed. At least you were honest in the past but that is no longer the case." He replied shaking his head and turned to leave.

The next moment I did something which I never expected in my life to do. Maybe he is really not right for me if I am making such choices whenever it comes to him.

I released the door which made it close before he can step out. However, we both continued to stand there in silence, with me staring at the wall before me and he is still standing facing the door.

"What should I take this as?" he asked breaking the silence.

"That I am still honest in what I want. However, if you have a fiancé, you also be honest and can open the door to leave right now." I replied turning away from him and started walking into the room.

Suddenly he hugged me from behind making me stumble. I frowned and turned to scold him as he is completely drenched and now even my clothes are wet.

"Move! I have only one extra set for tomorrow to change into." I said trying to remove his hands.

"I am cold!" he replied not moving.

"Then change your clothes. You will fall sick like this." I replied and tapped his hands.

"Will you go on a date after going back?" he asked and I sighed before turning my body to face him.

"It is a blind date arranged by my friend. Now, will you go and change?" I asked as he started shivering now.

"My family is pressuring me with marriage and my grandmother is faking that she is sick so that I will marry and forced me to meet her yesterday. She is my family friend and that's all." He explained even though I didn't ask him clearly.

"Okay!" I replied but he continued to stare at me.

"Then why are you not hugging me back?" he asked frowning.

"My clothes..." I started still trying to be rational but I couldn't hold myself strong anymore and moved to hug him back tightly.

Maybe I shouldn't have come to attend the conference. Maybe I shouldn't have talked to him yesterday. Maybe I shouldn't have let him help me. Maybe I shouldn't have come to this room. Maybe I shouldn't have closed that door before he could leave.

I leaned back from the hug to stare at him and as his gaze shifted to my lips, I leaned forward to press mine to his. Maybe I would have regretted it if I didn't do any of those from yesterday.
