Chapter 2

*Anvi Pov*

"Calm down! Because of you, it is raining so much." I turned to glare at Jhanvi and she immediately lifted her hands in surrender.

"Why didn't you tell me the issue of the Chef till now?" I asked not calming down.

"He was fine till now and he suddenly started acting like this. I thought he was just nervous because of the big day next week. I didn't expect that he is part of Naveen's plan." She replied sighing.

"What are you going to do? You just fired more than half of the staff and even the chef. Next week is an important day, right?" She added.

"Can you handle the kitchen?" I asked calmly.

"What? Me? No way! I am just a sous chef and how can I suddenly..." I cut her off saying, "But when that chef is playing games, you were already managing everything. I trust you!"

She stared at me for a few seconds before nodding. I smiled in relief even though this didn't solve all the problems.

"What about the other staff? Every department is cut down to half today." She asked frowning.

"I already posted for hiring. I will try to hire a few people this week so that there will be no problem next week." I assured her and myself.

"Okay! I will plan the menu and will get back to you." I nodded at her and she left the room.

I finally dropped my shoulders in defeat. I didn't want to worry her which would cause any disturbance in the kitchen.

I don't know whether I can find anyone within a week. Also, I don't whether the people who come to get hired will be genuine or a part of Naveen's trap.

I closed my eyes to control my negative thoughts. No matter what I need to get this hotel to run smoothly so that I can get proper investments and then in turn... I opened my eyes and turned around to look outside the window.

"I will get it back." I whispered holding the railing on the window tightly.

After taking a deep breath, I got back to work and communicated with the remaining staff that they need not worry about the workload and will be paid more for the increased workload.

As I finished with all the details, I reached the penthouse and removed my jacket feeling tired with everything that happened today.

As I laid down on the couch, I heard the phone ringing on the table. I picked it up seeing the number is from the reception and hoping there is no new issue.

"What is it?" I asked sitting up.

"Maam! There is a guest complaining that the heater is not working in the room. The staff who manage those things are... are fired today. Whom should I send for the work, Maam?"

I rubbed my forehead and calmly said, "Don't worry! Which room is it? I will handle it."

After she passed the room number, I got surprised as it is a suit and generally we never have problems with the suit. They were always checked timely and this is the first complaint.

I stood up and put on my jacket before walking out of the room while taking the repair kit along with me.

After reaching the floor below mine, I rang the bell and waited for the door to be opened. I put on a professional smile and continued with it even though the guest opened it with a cold expression.

If I don't fix it soon, he seems like to complain heavily for sure. I apologized for the issue and politely said it will be fixed soon.

He just stepped aside and I walked towards the washroom and paused when I heard him saying, "I can't believe I have to stay in this worthless hotel."

I ignored his comment and walked into the washroom and reached the heater. I opened the dome and found the issue immediately as it was not the fault of the machine but just man-made as the wire was cut cleanly.

I should have checked with all the things that fired staff came close to and made sure they didn't plant these surprises for me.

After fixing the wire, I walked out of the washroom saying, "It is fixed, Sir! Once again sorry for the inconvenience, Sir."

"Why are you apologizing? The hotelier who let this happen should apologize." He shook his head and took out a bill to pass my hand and paused in the action.

"You don't look like normal staff who does this work. Am I degrading you by offering it?" He asked with a frown.

"The staff appreciates your kindness and no need to give it to me, Sir. Also, it is not an issue." I replied without any change in my smile.

He frowned at me and asked, "You are acting really professional. Why are you working this hard in this place? Do you want me to recommend any other hotel?"

I was surprised at his words and also felt helpless. How many times did the staff have to hear this? How many left due to such words from the guests?

"Thank you for the offer, Sir. I want to work hard here and get this place better, Sir." I replied once again politely and moved to leave.

"So, you are the manager of this place. If you were a normal staff, you wouldn't be saying those words. Well, for working this fast with the issue and also for your professional attitude, let me give you a list of issues with this place." He offered while moving to sit on the couch.

Did I encounter a pervert? Why is he discussing so much with a mere staff? I frowned as I turned around with my back to him.

I opened my mouth to decline as I already prepared a list myself about the issues with this place. However, I closed my mouth as he started talking about the decorations.

"Decorations?" I asked turning around to stare at him.

"Yes! Want to listen? Go wash your hands and sit down." He said pointing at the chair beside the couch.

I paused hesitating whether to move or not as decorations are definitely not in my plan to change. And none of the staff mentioned anything about them.

"Don't worry! I am not a pervert and you can message someone about my details." Saying that he took out the card from the wallet and passed it to my hands.

I glanced at his designation and got surprised as he is a financial advisor. I definitely need someone to give financial advice but he is wishing to talk about decorations. How does his profession relate to that?

"My Mom is an interior designer and my Dad is an architect. I handle their work also." He added when he saw me frowning at him.

I didn't take the picture or sent the details to anyone as this hotel is mine and the reception knows that I am here.

I sat down and waited for him to explain. He gave me a nod and calmly stated on how confusing the decorations were. They are not completely modern or completely vintage.

That's because when I bought this hotel, some decorations were good and I let them be. I tried to get damaged ones changes to vintage mode itself but the loan amount was not enough.

Also, I got a suggestion... from Naveen that the composition is good. I don't have any artistic eye and so trusted him and once again another trap.

After the guests talked for some time, he cleared his throat and moved to get the water from the table but the jug was empty.

I glanced behind him and found the attached small bar that comes with the suit. I glanced at him and asked, "Shall I mix a drink, Sir?"

"Non-alcoholic, Sir!" I added and he nodded at me with a surprised look.

"Just a thank you for giving this information, Sir" I explained and moved to the bar. After checking the ingredients and making sure they were not expired, I mixed him a drink while he turned to stare at my actions.

"You took training?" He asked and I nodded but didn't explain more.

He doesn't know that I am the owner of this place and if he knows he will start scolding me for all the issues he has with this place.

I didn't lie but at the same time didn't clear his misunderstanding. Anyway, we are not going to meet again.

"Here, Sir!" I said passing the glass to him.

"You can call me Abhay. And your name?" He asked looking at me.

"I am Anvi, Si... Abhay!" I replied and he nodded taking a sip before glancing at me.

"You really want to stay at this place?" He asked again.

"Yes! Do you have a suggestion as a financial advisor?" I asked tapping his card with his designation.

"I don't do free services. Get your owner to set a meeting with my place and book a slot." He replied and I didn't get dejected hearing his words.

He need not help me at all. He already gave me an idea on how to change the decorations but it will not be done now as I can't work on it within a week.

"Thank you!" He replied finishing the drink.

I nodded standing up and moved towards the door holding the repair kit. I turned around near the door asking, "If there is any issue with other things, please call reception. The issue will be solved."

"No Need! I will be leaving in the morning when the rain stops." I nodded at his words and walked out of the room sighing.

As I reached my room, my phone started ringing and as I glanced at the number, I got startled. I took a deep breath and picked up the phone.

"Hello, Mr. Rohit!" I greeted him politely.

"Ms. Joshi! I am so sorry that I couldn't help you. My Dad will not come next week for the hotel and will not plan to invest." His voice was not clear at all.

"Are you drunk, Mr. Rohit?" I asked while tightening my hold on the phone.

He must be just drunk and rambling those things. I prayed continuously hoping it was just drunk talk.

"I asked my friend to check the place and he checked before calling my Dad to not invest. I am so sorry, Ms. Joshi." He cleared his throat and explained while I closed my eyes.

"Thank you, Mr. Rohit! Please do not apologize. Have a good night!" saying that I cut the call and slumped on the couch.

My phone slipped from my hand but I didn't care about it. Everything ended just like that. I lifted my fingers to touch my cheek and found the tears rolling down.

Why... why... I covered my face and let out the cry that I was holding all these months and the sound got mixed with the loud thunders from outside.
