3: heist

A/N: the photo is of Arthur kun as I imagine him. (Author chans biggest weakness is brindle lurchers and anything wolf-ish like herself)

Conan's POV:
I could hear All the commotion downstairs as kid pranked the police force. He'd stolen the golden twins and was heading my way, I could tell by the sound of nakamori keibu voice. I hadn't watched the theatrics, but scouted around instead, worried about something. My finely tuned detective skills were giving me warning signals, and I wasn't about to ignore them. Kid came dashing up the stairs, up onto the roof, and nearly knocked me over. I aimed my tranquilliser watch at him, a clear shot for once. Kid turned to me and grinned.

"Yo, meitantei kun, how are you? Found out who else is after me other than the police yet?" He teased. I smiled knowingly. My glasses glinted in the moonlight as I tilted my head. A sudden bark rang out, and kid seemed to panic, his confident Smirk cracking slightly. I pointed my watch at him, steadying my aim, but he laughed and pulled his card gun out, shooting my watch and breaking the dart function. I glared at him.

"I've had enough of this cat and mouse tonight, meitantei kun. Gomenasai, but I have leave now, before a fate worse than prison arrives" he sounded tired, nothing like the usual cocky thief and his smirk was definitely cracked, like something was worrying him. I felt a pang of worry at the thief's expression, he was a better magician than to show he was worried about something. A click of a gun made both of us turn, facing a man in black. My blood ran cold, I thought I took them all down? his gun was trained on us as he spoke:

"KID! Where is pandora? We warned you not to get in our way. Hand over the gem before we decide to kill you." The man angrily yelled. I was stood in front of kid, my back to him. He moved forward, stepping in front of me and standing between me and the gunman. He took out the two gems from his pocket, holding them to the moonlight in a way that the man couldn't see the gems. Kid then put the two earrings on the floor, grabbed me by the waist and leapt over the side of the building while holding me close, I'd been this close to him before, but I only realised now how good looking he was. Wait, did I really just think that?

A gunshot rang out, seconds before a searing pain tore through me, making me cry out. Kid had his hang glider and was gliding through the air, but I don't remember much after that because I blacked out from the shock of the gunshot wound.

I wake up to see the magician thief sat next to me. I was lying on an unfamiliar bed, in a strange room, in a strange house. The thief smiles at me, the usual cheeky smirk. Two dogs sit next to him on the floor. One is a huge malamute like dog with white fur, and the other is a chubby looking greyhound with brindle fur. Kid puts his hand out to my face, and traces a mark. I wince. Where did that cut come from? I open my mouth to speak, but the thief gets in first.

"It was snake who shot you, he's a member of a shadow group that was part of a syndicate kudo shinichi and the FBI took down. He shot me shortly after, causing me to crash into the side of a building. You were lucky, you only hit your head when we crashed. I have several minor injuries, but I had to get you away from them meitantei kun. The bullet went clean through on both of us, so we don't have to worry about removing them." Kaitou kid spoke softly, as if he knew that the noise hurt my head. The pain in my leg was too much for me and I drifted back to unconsciousness, feeling safe under the thiefs watchful gaze. (Which contradicted everything I knew about this particular thief, I was liable to wake up in a pink fairy outfit or covered in glue and feathers.)

Kaito's POV:
I watched meitantei kun as he slept, worried about the chibi detective. I knew he had suffered some sort of trauma in the past, and that he had some kind of relationship to the detective of the east, but the boy was still an enigma to me. I wanted to prank him, cover him in glue and feathers or something, but I couldn't bring myself to do it when he was asleep. Every time we battled, I'd felt guilty at the thoughts that ran wild in my mind. I felt awful for falling for the seven year old, especially as there was a ten year age gap between us. The bullet had gone clean through us both, according to wolf chan and the typed message on the laptop, but meitantei-kun's pulse was slow and that made me worried, though I didn't let it show, hiding behind my poker face.

I still had my top hat, silk suit and monocle on, but I didn't want the boy to know who I really was. The cape was annoying me, and I wanted to change into normal clothes. I couldn't reveal who I was, Not yet. I was disgusted at the thoughts that crept stealthily into my mind as I sat beside the chibi detective as he slept. The boy was so cute, I mean, ridiculously cute. I wanted to kiss him, to hold him close, but I restrained myself, afraid of what meitantei-kuns reaction would be. (Knowing him, a sleep dart and a soccer ball to the head, followed shortly by a trip to the police station.)After a good few hours of sleep, Meitantei kun woke up, sitting up with a soft groan of pain.

He wiped a hand across his face, removing his glasses while he did so, making my eyes widen in shock as I saw his face sans the glasses for the first time. He looked like me when I was seven, he could've been my twin brother shrunken down, or my baby brother. Wolf chan and Arthur kun had both gone downstairs ages ago, leaving me and the boy alone. Meitantei kun looked at me for a moment, like he was trying to remember something. His face was twisted as he tried to recall that something, before his eyes dawned with realisation. I was expecting him to shoot me with his sleep dart, or hit me with an instant soccer ball, but I didn't expect the reaction I got.

"Kid!" He wailed unexpectedly. The tiny detective was crying, wailing, shaking with fear or sadness. I was startled, I hadn't ever seen this side of Meitantei kun before. This was definitely not normal. I wanted to hold him close, tell him he was alright, but I was frozen to the spot at the boy continued to wail. He manages to leap up out of the bed despite his injured leg, and into my arms, clinging tightly as if he could never let go. I cautiously put my arms around him, holding the young detective in my arms as each sob shook his whole body. What had cracked him so completely as to let him break down in front of me, his arch rival?

The seven year old calmed down a bit, and, still holding me tightly, began to explain. His speech was rushed and hard to follow, he seemed to be adding bits of English to the Japanese, but I got the basics of it. He wasn't really edogawa Conan, but a shrunken seventeen year old detective formerly known as kudo shinichi, detective of the east. He was poisoned by the black org and he went into hiding. Now the black org had been taken down, all that was left was to catch the last four members and find a cure for what he called his condition. I didn't interrupt with my usual snarky or witty comebacks, I just held the boy close, comforting him with no words.

I was silently relieved, my suspicions about him being related somehow to kudo shinichi were confirmed, and I was glad to know I wasn't being outsmarted by an actual seven year old. I was even more relieved to know that I hadn't fallen for an actual seven year old, but a chibified teen. I had felt so, so.... wrong, loving the young boy, but now, I felt better. But only a bit.

Conan's POV:
Why? Why was I telling this thief the truth? Not even ran could get me to spill my secret fears, and yet here I was, injured and tired, crying into the magicians warm arms. No witty comments, no jokes or pranks, he just sat there holding me and for this I was glad. It was the first time I'd really admitted how I really felt, and I was confused as to why I'd never admitted to hattori how scared I was, until I remembered how hot headed he could be. It wasn't until I'd finished speaking that the magician thief finally spoke up. The voice was soft, as if he didn't want anyone else to hear.

"Meitantei, I know how you feel. Honestly, I'm glad to hear someone else struggling like myself. And I think such a deep secret deserves to be rewarded with one of my own" he whispers quietly, pushing me away so he can stand up. He is tall, about the same height as myself (back when I was a teenager that is), and very, very good looking. (Argghhhhh, shinichi, stop it, don't think that, you are straight, you are straight, you are.......oh, I give up!) he removes his hat, suit and cape, changing into all black, leaving his monocle on his face. He sits back down beside me on the bed, waiting. I reach my small hand out hesitantly, placing my hand on the monocle, wondering whether I should remove it. I see a movement out of the corner of my eye as the thief places his big hand over the top of my small one and together, we take the monocle off, leaving a startlingly familiar face behind. I always knew he looked like me naturally, he often disguised as my teen form after all, but I still thought he was wearing a mask. I also knew his name, not that he knew that. If he wanted to tell me, he would.

"Go on, ku...ku...kudo kun, it's not a mask." He whispers, seemingly aware that I still had a terrible headache. I didn't fail to notice the stutter as he said by name. I reach out and roughly pinch his face, surprised to see his real face at long last. I opened my mouth to speak, but I felt a wave of nausea wash over me, and I blacked out again. The last thing I remember is seeing the magician thiefs real face distorted with worry and feeling his warm arms around me. Then nothing, just the darkness of unconsciousness.

Wolf's POV:
I waited patiently downstairs, Arthur kun was pacing back and forth, waiting for Kaito kun to call us. I could hear every word of their conversation, and I was relived that both boys could finally share such terrible secrets with another human. I mean, it's all well and good for Kaito to tell Arthur and me how he is or isn't really coping, but we couldn't comfort him like a human. I started to pace as well, walking next to Arthur as we walked the length of the house over and over. Kaito kun was upstairs, it sounded like they had stopped talking. I heard Kaito reveal his real face to the Edogawa boy, and then a crash, as Kaito moved suddenly and fell over. I pricked my ears up. Kaito knew to call me if something was wrong, I may have been just a dog, but I knew a lot about human medicine, and Kaito knew that.

"Oi, Meitantei, Meitantei, can you hear me... hoi, hoi..." I heard Kaito suddenly say, and a few seconds later: " Wolf chan, wolf chan! Here, hayaku!" I left Arthur kun to his bored pacing and raced up the stairs and into kaito's bedroom, to see him holding the young detective in his arms. The boy was deathly pale, and I knew, without needing to go near him, that something was terribly wrong. I could smell the changes in him, and I recognised them instantly. He was showing the same signs as Arthur kun had back in that lab cage, but in reverse. I sniffed at his grazed leg, sniffing carefully as I detected trace amounts of something that smelt like the drug, but not. It smelt of shiho San too, and I wondered at that.

The bullet had pierced the side pocket in the boy's trousers, breaking a container with a single pill inside, and the powder had slowly mixed with his blood. No wonder it had taken so long to effect him. The drug must be an antidote of sorts to the evil drug. I put my tail between my legs and scratched at the secret door that led to the soundproof kid lair beneath the house. Kaito understood and carried the detective down to the quiet room, placing him on the pile of cushions that were left there for me and Arthur when he was at school.

"Wolf chan, what's happening to him?" Kaito asked me worriedly. I had never told him that Arthur and I were an experiment, but I guess now would be a time to explain. I nosed the laptop open, (he had one in every room for me) and began tapping on the keyboard as fast as I could with the pencil end.

Pup and I, experiment. Escape black org, run til we find you. Boy same as Arthur, shrunk by sherry drug. I different, mind changed to be good, like human brain, but escaped when found they evil. Sherry help, give me pouch, hide for her til she help us

I typed, letting the human read over my shoulder. I heard the young detective's heavy breathing increase, as sharp spasms of pain ripped through him. He cried out in pain, clutching at his heart. Kaito turned from the computer and knelt beside the conan boy, gently holding the younger boy's hand as the child screamed. I was glad Arthur couldn't hear from the main part of the house, the poor dog would be frantic if he could, and just as glad to know we were safely hidden from that nosey girl next door. I liked Aoko, but not that much. That Aoko was the daughter of the man trying to put my master behind bars after all.

I watched as the boy began to grown at a fast pace, his body changing back into a teen rapidly, but the spasms continued. I reasoned out it was due to the slow release of powder from the drug in his pocket into his body which was dragging out the pain, but I could see the pain in kaito's eyes too. Watching the other boy writhe in pain was upsetting him a lot, and I wanted to lick him and make the human laugh. Eventually the cries of pain died down, as did the spasms, but the boy detective was still unconscious. Kaito looked at me, eyes filled with sorrow. I put my nose to the sleeping teen's face and felt his soft breath. The boy was breathing easier now, and his bullet wound had gone, leaving a few streaks of blood as a reminder.

I turned back to the laptop and typed a bit more for my master to read, hoping that the detective wouldn't freak out if he saw a malamute using a computer. The auto correct helped me a lot.

Don't worry magician San, he's only resting. He be fine when wakes up. Bet shrink back shock you. Not sure long last, but keep warm, he so thin.

Kaito's POV:
I watched with growing concern as meitantei kun began to scream in pain, not waking at all. I glanced at what was on wolf chans laptop, and decided to read it later. I went over to the boy and held his hand, trying to comfort him as best I could. My poker face had bee utterly shattered by this point, and I was no longer trying to hide my concern. I watched in shock as his seven year old body was slowly replaced by a handsome looking teen. He looked  like me, but he had a thinner, lighter build, with slightly lighter hair than me. I looked at kudo shinichi's sleeping form, desperately wanting to kiss him, but keeping my lust under control. I didn't want to upset the detective.

I glanced at Wolf chans words again, reading them properly this time. I skipped the first bit, reading only the latest paragraph. He would be ok, I was glad, but she didn't know how long his adult form would last, and she thought he was too thin. I want over to my box of tricks, and pulled out a very thin silver and white sheet. It was a thermal blanket sewn into one of my capes (in case of cold weather), and I'd forgotten I even had it. I placed it carefully over the sleeping detective, resisting the urge to cuddle up to him. I sat on the edge of the cushion pile, watching him sleep. He stirred a few times, muttering some random gibberish as he slept.
