PART ONE | your average life

Being a collage student has its ups and downs. The independence everyone craves during high school is finally reached as youngins transitions into the new years of their life. Being the good student you are, you had saved up some money during high school to rent out an apartment and get settled into a new home before collage started.

Now some time had passed from graduation, you managed to fit in with a group of people and call them your friends. Your apartment had begun to finally feel like a place of rest and comfort. School had also become a breeze as the routine of work ethic had settled in allowing you to keep up with study and homework.

Soon, the contents in your bank ran low like a dried river. Every month the landlord came for the rent, you became more reluctant to hand out the few hundreds you had left.

It had come to a point where you avoided buying too many meals for yourself. As you sat, listening to the churns of your starved body you figured it was probably time to get a job.

Luckily for you, there are always plenty businesses looking to hire spry youths such as yourself. Thus began your hunt for the perfect place to get minimum wage.

Throughout your weeks of interviews, and calls it seemed you were always turned down once you mentioned you were a collage student and couldn't be available 24/7. It seemed completely ridiculous that your friends managed to snag jobs whilst being at collage and you couldn't, there must've been something you were doing wrong.

"Well it's the day jobs that aren't hiring you, right? Maybe you should work at some night job, maybe a bar tender at a nightclub or a night guard at a mall or something like that."

Brunch was a regular activity within your friend group, although since money had been tight you didn't usually attend, today was different as you figured you could get some job hunting tips.

You rehashed over the advice in your head. "That's actually not a bad idea." You marvelled. You couldn't lie to yourself, being a night guard seemed like a total breeze. You could study during your shifts and get some alone time. You couldn't know yet, but you were oh so wrong.

You had contacted all of the shopping malls or large stores in your area, asking if they had any positions for a night guard (or any positions at all). Some said they would call you back and others told you the position had already been filled.

There was one last place on your list, Freddy Fazbear's pizzaplex. This one you were pretty keen on, I mean- who wouldn't want to work at a place like that? You bet you could totally snag some pizza for yourself, maybe even steal a plushie.

You dialed the number and pressed your phone up to your ear. It rang three times before someone picked up.

"Hello, Freddy Fazbear's pizzaplex how can I help you?" Your ears were greeted with a women's high-pitched honeyed voice.

"Uh hello! I'm calling regarding a position as a night guard at the plex." Your heart thumped in your chest and you bit your lip, God you hoped this place would give you something.

"Oh that's great, just hold for a moment and I'll put you in contact with our careers department." The women responded.

"Thank y-" the line clicked before you could finish voicing your appreciation. The sound of crackled hold music started to play and you pulled your phone away from your ear to avoid being deafened by the horrific tunes. After a minute of waiting someone picked up from the other line.

"Hello." The disembodied voice didn't introduce itself, and spoke no niceties.

You cleared your throat. "Hello! I was just calling regarding a job at the pizzaplex." You forced the nice and sweet tone, hoping it would make you sound employable.

"Sure, and what job were you looking at applying for?" The voice was male, his tone was low and husky.

"I was wondering if you have any positions open for a night guard. I was hoping to apply as one, or any other open positions you may have."

"Ah yes," The mans voice became perky and lively, "you actually called at the perfect time. Our regular night guard Vanessa has requested less hours, we could use another employee." You mentally celebrated and thanked Vanessa- whoever she was. "When can you come in for a trial shift?"

"Come in? I'll uh have to check- would you like me to send my resume beforehand?" You asked. The man chuckled.

"No no, here at the plex we'd like to see what you can do, not what bluffs you put on your resume."

You were a little relieved to hear that, your resume had no real experience points and was genuinely all filler. "I'm free most nights, when would you like me to come in?"

"How about this Friday at 9pm? Vanessa will show you how to operate everything and we'll hear back from her about hiring you."

Your tone brightened with genuine happiness. "That's perfect. I'll be there! Thank you very much, bye."

You couldn't believe how well you had scored, they wanted to skip the resume process and move straight onto a practice shift? You breathed a heavy sigh that washed away your anxieties about getting employed and receiving an income. You had a feeling this place would be the right one.

You sat down on your bed and laid back, you'd be able to sleep a little better tonight.
