Chapter 01

The cold, icy wind was biting at Yui's fragile face. Most people would have run inside by now, unable to bear the sting of the unforgiving wind, but, to Yui, it was calming. There was something special in the sting she got from the wind. She just couldn't name it.

But she knew this, in the last eight years, every time the wind blew with a vengeance, all cold and icy, she would find herself outside, standing in the face of the wind, absorbing it, with a dreamy smile on her face.

Her elders never understood her addiction for the wind, just that she would always be outside every time the wind blew. It wouldn't matter if she was sleeping, or giving an exam at school, she would just be outside.

Yui chuckled to herself, thinking of what her elders must think, seeing her run outside all the time.

Just then, it started drizzling. The feel of the cold droplets hitting her skin was even better.
Yui knew that now was a good time to go inside. Her elders would call her in soon, afraid that she would catch a cold.

She looked down from her balcony, to the traffic below. There was a puppy who had found itself trapped in the busy streets of Seoul. Yui took a split decision, wanting to save the puppy. Standing outside in the rain was a risk in itself (her elders would punish her) and going into streets would only increase its consequences.

But what was a risk without its consequences?

Yui knew what she had to do. In a swift move, she climbed onto the rail and turned onto the outer side. She looked down, it wasn't much of a distance, she could easily levitate herself down without being noticed or loosing concentration. But one wrong move, and it would lead to instant death. Yet Yui wasn't scared. She took a deep breath and jumped. She pushed her mental energy outside of her mind, forming a blanket around her, letting her control where she had to go with her mind, not having to move her hands or feet. She smiled, knowing that even though she had just jumped of a building, she was safe.

She landed on the footpath, her feet wobbly. She collapsed as she stuck her hands out to break her fall, landing on her hands and knees. She stood up, looking around to see whether anyone had seen her extraordinary feat. She looked down at her bruised hands as pain shot up from them.

Yui ignored the pain searing through her arms as she sprinted across the standing traffic, receiving several honks and a lot of screaming in colorful Korean. She stopped in her tracks when she saw the poor puppy. It was adorable with its big brown eyes and and golden fur. She quickly picked it up and ran back to her apartment.

She ran upstairs; she lived on the first floor. Yui fumbled with her keys as she opened her house door to the  usual scene; Jin and Namjoon were screaming at each other because Namjoon had broken something yet again, Hoseok was trying to stopping them from getting physical(he knew for a fact that both Jin and Namjoon had very powerful abilities and very powerful punches), Jungkook was egging both of the two warring elders on to fight more, Jimin was laughing his head off, and Taehyung was shooting a video of everything to blackmail them later. Yoongi was no where to be found. He must be sleeping, Yui thought.

The moment she entered, the three bickering elders snapped their heads at her, immediately stopping their fight. Jungkook started laughing really loudly, while Jimin had the good sense to stop laughing as Taehyung turned his camera towards her, grinning.

"Where were you?" Jin asked.

"Outside. The wind's blowing cold." Yui replied casually.

"And the puppy?" Namjoon questioned.

"Stuck in the traffic." Yui calmly replied.

"But you were in your room 10 minutes ago!" Jimin said from across the room as Taehyung zoomed his camera in, focusing on her. Jungkook was wheezing at this point.

"You levitated yourself off the balcony again, didn't you?" Jin grumbled, facepalming.

"YOU DO REALIZE YOU'RE A PSYCHOPATH FOR DOING THAT IN FRONT OF HUMANS!" Jungkook shouted from across the room, somehow managing a straight face.

"If I am a psychopath, I might just strangle you in your sleep if you irritate me too much." she replied casually as Taehyung and Jimin desperately tried to muffle their laughter.

"HEY! I'M OLDER THAN YOU! RESPECT!"

"And we both know I'm the one mentally older." Yui smiled, much to Jungkook's annoyance.

"You're the one who levitated off the balcony!" Jungkook muttered.

"And you're the one who taught that to me!" Yui grinned.

"We asked him to teach you so that you could always escape if something went wrong. Don't use your skills like this." Jin sighed.

"But I saved a life" Yui pouted, gesturing to the puppy she was holding.

"And we're proud of you for that, but you know that we're not normal, none of us are. If some godforsaken human had seen you, we might've gotten publicity and risked exposing the magical community to the entire world." Namjoon explained.

"Yes, but don't worry. I made sure no one saw me, Joonie oppa." Yui smiled, earning a weak smile from Namjoon and Jin.

"SO NOW YOU CAN RESPECT OTHERS AND SAY OPPA!" Jungkook teased, earning a death glare from Hobi and Namjoon as Jin smacked him and Jimin beat him with a pillow.

Taehyung approached Yui from behind and hugged her, resting his head on top of her. "You know, Yui," Tae started, sounding thoughtful, "Next time, break a leg!" he giggled.

"Fuck you" Yui grumbled as she smacked Taehyung, pushing him away. She kept the puppy on the floor, pleased to see it following her. She turned around, facing Taehyung and scowled at him, which made the puppy bark at him.

She swiftly turned around and stomped away, the puppy wagging its tail behind her, leaving Taehyung laughing his heart out.

Yui entered the kitchen, a heavenly aroma greeting her.

"Something smells good. What're you cooking?" Yui asked Jin, who was busy chopping vegetables.

"It's a surprise. Now out, out-out" Jin smiled while ushering Yui out, enchanting a knife to chop the vegetables for him.

"Wait. I want to give a puppy the puppy something to eat. Poor thing must be starving" Yui said, petting the puppy.

"I'll give it some milk." Jin said, walking over to the fridge.

"It's a dog, not a cat, Jin oppa. I think that it would do with some water." she giggled.

"Of course." He smiled, and poured water in a dish as he kept it in front of the puppy.

"You want to keep it, don't you?" He asked, looking at Yui's cute expression.

"Well, the puppy doesn't have a house, and I'd take such good care of it!" she pleaded.

"You can keep it, as long as you're the one taking care of it. I already have three man-babies to take care of." Jin laughed.

"Really! Thankyou so much, Jin oppa!" Yui squealed as she hugged Jin.

"You know you're my favourite, right?" he smiled, hugging her back.

"Of course I do." Yui smiled, placing her chin on his chest, so that she could look up at his handsome face. "So what do I name it?"

"I don't know. Ask Taehyung." Jin answered, looking down at her sparkling eyes. "Now go! Out-out-out! I have to cook!" Jin exclaimed as he got back to chopping his vegetables.

Just then, the puppy stopped drinking its water and jumped on Jin, trying to lick his face. Jin started screaming at the top of his voice as Yui scrambled to get the dog of him. Then she remembered something and snapped her fingers, the puppy vanishing from atop Jin and in her arms. Jin took a minute to recollect himself.

When Jin properly recollected himself, he pushed Yui and the puppy to the kitchen door and screamed, "I AM COOKING NOW! IF THAT UNCIVILIZED ANIMAL ENTERS MY KITCHEN ONCE MORE, I WILL ZAP THAT DAMN CREATURE WITH LIGHTNING!" and slammed the door on a very confused Yui.

She ran to the living room, seeing a very angry Yoongi.

"WHO WOKE ME UP?" he thundered.

"The rabbit." Yui very calmly replied.

"B-But, I-didn't, ugh. Come Yui-ah, we'll take the puppy for a walk." Jungkook muttered, dragging Yui and the puppy out their apartment door.

"Do you know what today is?" Jungkook asked Yui, not looking at her.

"No, is it something I should know?" Yui asked, looked worried.

"No, I suppose not. Yui, don't you ever wonder who your parents were?"

A memory came into Yui's mind.

A lady, looking at her with a sad smile, and a man looking really worried. "We'll find a way, won't we?" the lady asked, still looking at her, as if the woman was going to burst into tears. "I don't think so, darling. We really don't have another choice." the man said, trying to be strong. The lady leaned down, kissing Yui's forehead and told her, "We'll always love you." She finally burst into tears as she hugged Yui, a final embrace. And that was when the blinding flash consumed Yui.

"Hello? Earth to Yui?" Jungkook asked while tapping Yui's forehead, snapping her out of her reverie.

"Yes, uh, yeah, I don't really ever wonder who they were." Yui lied. Jungkook raised a questioning eyebrow. "I have the perfect family right now! Why should I wonder who my parents were when they're not here?" she added.

Jungkook slung his arm over Yui's shoulder, pulling her closer to him. "Yes, I'm grateful for all of you too." he said. "So, are you keeping the uncivilized animal?"

"You heard that?" Yui grumbled, face-palming.

"I'm pretty sure all of Seoul heard that." he laughed. "Regardless of that, are you keeping it?"

"Well, yes." Yui whispered, placing her head on Jungkook's chest.

"You're lucky. Jin-hyung would never let any of us have a pet." Jungkook whined.

Just then, the puppy started barking, sending Jungkook into an alert state. He instinctively tightened his grip around Yui and lifted the puppy with his free hand, hiding them in the shadows using his ability. As though he could sense something was going to happen.

He turned Yui around and started walking in the opposite direction, the shadows successfully hiding them and following them. Guns went off behind them, followed by a couple of grunts and shouts.

Yui felt a blaring pain in her foot as she bent down to touch it, revealing her hands covered with blood. Jungkook must have seen it too, because the next thing Yui knew, Jungkook  had lifted her in his strong arms, placing the puppy atop her, and held her close to his chest as he ran. Yui could feel the blood draining out of her, giving her the urge to give in to the darkness that was slowly clouding her mind. Jungkook leaned down to her ear and whispered, "hold on"

She could feel her consciousness slowly slipping away from her, and Yui couldn't hold on any longer. The pain was too overwhelming. She was feeling light-headed. Most of all, she had lost all of her energy.

The last thing Yui felt was a cold breeze against her face as she gave in to the darkness.
