Chapter 2:
Abhi's pov:
I am sorry Abhi, I cannot accept your proposal.
I hit the punching bag in agony recalling the scene again and again. What I thought would be the best night of my life turned out to be the worst. I hit one last time and sat on the bed, sweat covering my toned chest. I couldn't help but think about that moment again and again..
"Tanu, will you marry me?" I ask, crouching on my knees.
Tears pooled in her eyes making me worried. At the beginning, I thought she was crying because of my proposal but the tears didn't seem to end making me wonder.
"Tanu, baby, what's wrong?" I ask holding her hands.
She hugged me tight, crying into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her and waited for her to explain.
"I am sorry Abhi, I cannot accept your proposal." She finally said, breaking my heart.
"What? You're joking right. Tanu, this is not April fools day!" I exclaimed.
This has to be a freaking joke! She cannot decline my proposal.
"I wish Abhi but that's the truth." She said looking away.
I gripped her arms tightly making her look at me.
"Tanu, I know you're not serious. You are not looking into my eyes. If that's the truth, look into my eyes and tell." I still persisted.
She changed everything in my life and I cannot lose her now.
"Abhi, I cannot marry you." She said, looking into my eyes.
The grip on her hands loosened and I took a step back.
"But, you talked so lovingly on the phone! No, this has to be some sick dream!" I yelled.
She flinched but I didn't care. I need to know why is she doing this to our love.
"Abhi, I came here to tell you about something important and I didn't want to disappoint you while you were talking on the phone." She gave me a silly excuse.
"Oh, so you talk with every single men like this when you want to tell something 'important' huh?" I snarled.
A look of hurt crossed her face after my words but that's less when you compare it with my heart.
"No, Abhi, trust me." She said softly.
"Trust you! Trust you!" I laughed bitterly. " My girlfriend, oh sorry, the love of my life just rejected my proposal for god knows whom and you want me to 'trust you' Tanu? You're delusional!" I yelled. I know my words are harsh but right now my hurt consumed everything.
"Abhi, I know you're hurt but this is not what I wanted to tell you.." she started .
Oh, there is more. Could this night get any better?
"Go on.." I said clenching my fists.
She took a deep breathe and took something out of her bag.
I know where this is going and I don't like it.
She took out a card, precisely a wedding card and handed it to me. My eyes bulged out of my sockets.
"What is this?" I asked, my hands shaking.
"Abhi, papa arranged my wedding with a businessman. I wanted to give this to you." She said, pointing to the card.
My face looked pained just like my heart.
"I hope you feel ok and attend my wedding." She said and started walking away.
"From when are you hanging out with him?" I asked finally.
"What?" She asked, turning around.
"From when are you cheating me?" I asked, anger visible in my tone.
"Don't you dare question my love!" She yelled.
"Love? Tanu, you never loved me. I was just a stupid boy for you. I can't believe I truly loved you." I asked , tears falling down.
"Abhi.." She said, touching my hands.
"Please don't touch me." I said desperately.
She immediately left my hand and looked at me with pain. She started walking away leaving me lifeless.
"Abhi.." she called.
I turned to see her.
"Abhi, I always loved you. I didn't even know my wedding was fixed until today. I hope you forgive me and please don't hate or question my love." She said in a broken voice.
My knees gave away after all the pain and I started screaming in pain. Tears started falling from my heart.
Love is pain! There is no love in this world, only betrayal.
I still couldn't believe everything that happened yesterday night.
"Abhi." I lift my head to see my daadi peeping in the room.
"Yes Dadi." I asked, getting up.
"We need to go somewhere outside. Are you free today?" She asked me softly.
"Yeah, we can go wherever you want." I smiled at her.
She beamed at me.
"Ok, get ready." She smiled mischievously.
I furrowed my eye brows in confusion but let the matter slide.
I don't have anyone to live. Let me at least live for Daadi.
I took a quick shower and dressed up in casuals. I saw my daadi waiting for me downstairs.
"Sup dadi." I asked sitting down on the chair to eat breakfast.
"Abhi, how long does it take for you to shower?" She asked me, actually kinda mad.
"Uh daadi, I didn't know it was so important. I am sorry." I apologized.
"Eat your breakfast quickly. We need to go." She said after shaking her head.
I nodded and started eating.
What happened to daadi? She never behaved like this.
After finishing my breakfast in ten minutes, me and daadi started leaving.
"Can you tell where are we going at least now?" I asked while driving to some address.
"You'll see." She smirked.
What the...
We stopped in front of a small but cozy house.
"Daadi, can you please tell me what's going on?" I asked her finally.
"Abhi, I want you to meet my friend's granddaughter." She stated finally.
My head started spinning after hearing her say that.
Wow! Life is spectacularly awesome! My girlfriend rejected me for someone else and now I am meeting someone else for 'wedding'. God, what do you have for me?
"But daadi.." i started in the hope to convince her.
"Abhi, I know what you want to say but it's high time you settle down. I am growing old and don't know when I will leave this world. Just think of this as my last wish. I am not asking you to marry her but just meet her for my sake." She requested.
When did daadi become so filmy?
"Ok" I found myself saying that.
Where have you dragged yourself Abhishek mehra?
"Namaste ji." My daadi said to a old lady as we went into the door.
"Namaste." I said.
"Please come and sit down. I called my daughter, she will be here anytime." Aunty said
We nodded.
After waiting for an hour, my patience was hanging.
I hate people who're late.
"How long will it take for her?" I asked finally.
"She.."
"Maa, I am sorry. I am late.." we heard a voice.
I turned my head to see a girl walking into the home.
Pragya's pov:
Maa is going to kill me. I am late and this rain is not helping the situation.
I went into the house, getting ready for my mom's outburst.
"Maa, I am sorry, I am late..." I started but was shocked to see a elderly woman and a man sitting right next to each other.
"Pragya, come. Why are you so late? She whispered, yelled into my ear.
"Wo ma.." I started But she didn't give me a chance to reply considering she was pulling me towards them.
"Daadi, meet my daughter Pragya." Maa introduced me .
"Namaste daadi." I greeted them.
"Namaste beta, this my grandson Abhishek mehra." She introduced to the man beside her.
"Hmm hello." I said awkwardly.
What the hell is going on?
"Hi, I am Abhi." He greeted, extending his hand.
"Pragya." I said, accepting his hand.
"Nice to meet you." He said politely.
"Nice to meet you too." I said.
After that, the atmosphere was awkward. I didn't know what to say but I still couldn't figure out what is going on.
"So, sarala ji, What do you think?" Dadi piped in.
Wait, what?
"Maa, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked her.
Maa looked confused but nodded nevertheless.
"What Pragya?" She asked caressing my head as we came in my room.
"Maa, who are they? What is going on?" I asked her.
"Pragya, we are asking Abhishek's hand for you." Maa suddenly said. To say I was shocked was an understatement.
"Maa, no way! I can't get married!" I told her.
"Pragya, I am not giving you a choice. From the past two years, we are hearing the same excuses and we had enough. We called Abhishek to see if he liked you, not the way around." She said sternly.
Maa, how can I tell you the reason for me rejecting proposals!
Before I could tell something, a voice interrupted.
"Aunty, can I speak to Pragya for a second?" Abhi asked.
Maa looked wary but nodded.
Freaking fantastic!
"I am sorry for listening your conversation but I think you don't like this marriage. Am I right?" He asked after minutes of silence.
I nodded, too tired to speak. The sequences in the day drained all the energy.
"Same here." He said, making me jerk.
"You don't like the marriage? Why?" I asked him.
"Why don't you like the marriage?" He retorted.
I sighed. Boys and their stubbornness.
"I love someone but he said he doesn't love me anymore." I explained simply.
"Wow, our situations are alike. I proposed to a girl yesterday and she ditched me for someone else." He said.
"Two depressed souls" I joked.
He cracked a smile at my lame joke.
"Where do you work?" I asked him finally.
He looked shocked, but an amused smile appeared on his face.
"You don't me?" He asked, smiling.
"What are you? Bill gates? How will I know you?" I said.
He didn't look offended but just smiled.
"Have you heard of Abhi the rockstar?" He asked.
"Yeah, so what..." I started but then everything made sense. Abhi the rockstar. His name is Abhi..
I face palm myself.
"I am sorry." I apologized.
"It's fine." He said.
"Look Pragya, I have no right to change your decision but just think about it. I want to get married for my daadi. She thinks it's her last wish for me. I don't have anyone in this world Pragya. She is everything for me. If it's ok with you, we can get married. But we can just stay as friends. So what do you think?" He said making me shocked.
How can I get married to you when I love Purab?
