the virginity myth

alright girls, listen up.

for our first topic, i want to talk about something called the virginity test. this is going to get pretty deep into detail about certain things, so if youre under the age of thirteen, then i highly recommend you leave now.

okay, has anyone heard of the virginity test?

for those of you who havent, lemme break it down.

the virginity test is something that people use to ensure or clarify whether or not a girl is a virgin. they use this to see if their hymen is still okay. this is popular in about 20 countries. the US is not one of them. they use the 'two finger' method, which i mean, you can prolly guess how that works. they stick two fingers in their vagina to be sure that a girl is a virgin.

this, is a myth.

the only way to tell if a girl is a virgin is to stick her to a lie detector test and ask her politely. which, you shouldnt need to know anyway.

this is truly disgusting.

it is believed that if the hymen in a girl's vagina is still intact that she is a virgin. a lot of people believe that every girl will bleed their first time.

these are lies.

first of all, not all girls bleed their first time. some may bleed, some may not. but not everyone does. i am living, breathing proof. i am not a virgin and i didnt bleed my first time. it is believed that the girl will bleed because her hymen is breaking and producing blood. but, thats not what the hymen does. your hymen does not bleed or break or any of that. your hymen stretches, it's like a scrunchie. it lines the outside so that whatever is going in wont be as painful. it is a rim of tissue around the opening. it may tear a bit to make room for whatever may try to fit, but it is not gone forever. your hymen does not magically go away, your hymen stays there.

these myths have been passed on for centuries because of cultural significance. virginity tests usually occur because of social values, or for something as easy as obtaining a job, reputation, etc. so the lie that "if a woman doesn't bleed her first time, she is simply not a virgin" is incredibly inaccurate.

if you would like to know more into detail, there's a ted talk on youtube about it called,  The virginity fraud | Nina Dølvik Brochmann & Ellen Støkken Dahl | TEDxOslo. i highly recommend you guys watch it because it will explain everything a lot better and give you guys a better perspective.

anyway, lemme know what you guys think!
