Chapter 57

I was surrounded in darkness. Pure, pitch black darkness. There wasn't a single speck of light anywhere. But where was I?

"Hello?" I called out. My words echoed back softly. "Tyler?!"

"He's not here."

"Then where is he? Where am I? Am I dead?"

"No, you're living, barely."

"I don't feel hurt."

"That is because you are in your mind."

"But why is it so dark?"

"Just think of a memory , and it will come to you."

I thought of one of the best moments of my life; when Tyler and I had kissed. The room, which was like a big dome, started to play the memory. I smiled, then felt a tinge of sadness.

"Am I going to die?"

"It is not for certain, Madelyn. Right now, you're laying in a bed, asleep. If you can find a way out of your mind, then you will be able to wake, and quite possibly, live."

"But how? Wasn't it supposed to kill me? How am I still alive? Is Tyler alive?"

"It was supposed to kill you. But through some strange miracle - actually, not a miracle, it was because of their testing on you - you're alive. Barely alive. You're in your mind now, as if this were just a dream."

"A dream, you say."

And that's when my year of obsession with all things hypnosis and sleep related was put to use. In a dream, if you're aware that you're dreaming, then you can usually manipulate the dream. But how would I use that to wake? I wasn't a beginner to lucid dreaming; I had done it a few times before, so I wasn't going to get that jolt out of my dream from surprise.

"Right now would be a great time for some advice."

"What do you use to exit a room?"

"A door, but how does that help me- oh."

"Yes."

Now, all I had to do was imagine a door out of here. Out of my mind and back into reality.

"Here I go," I muttered, looking at the spot where the door would go. I focused on home, on my parents, on Trinity, and most importantly, on Tyler. A door appeared, and I stepped through.

Nothing happened.

"I need more advice."

"You're the one who studied dreams for a year. I know about that topic as well, but sometimes, you need to figure things out on your own."

"Thanks for the help," I said sarcastically. But then I got to thinking. If adrenaline from the excitement of having a lucid dream could wake someone, then couldn't I get something or someone to scare the crap outta me so that I can wake up?

But before I could do that, I saw a small door - it wasn't even a foot tall - on the wall. I stepped forward, going to the door. I shifted, going through. Everything seemed to be white now, but then I a face. Smells rushed into my nostrils, and I knew where I was. A hospital of some sort. Either that, or a lab. I started to panic. Had I woken, only to be trapped at the lab?

"She's up." said a voice. I tried to sit up, but laid back down when I felt pain.

I heard the noise of many people coming to the room.

"Where am I?" I asked, hoping that it wasn't the lab.

"You're at the hospital." replied a voice.

I could see gashes on myself, and I looked away. "I'm alive."

"You were almost dead when you were brought here. If it had been a minute later, I doubt you would've made it."

So I wasn't going to die. But where was Tyler? "Where's Tyler?"

"He's fine." he assured me.

It was a while before I was good enough to go home. But I was greeted with good news; the peace treaty was going to be signed. The rivalry was going to be over. I could hardly believe it.

When I was going home, I was told to take it easy for a few weeks, which meant no flying or shifting. Still, I was happy that I was alive.

I was going home. When I arrived at the house, I looked at it. I hadn't been there in so, so long. I opened the door, walking in. Tyler looked up.

"Madelyn! You're home! You made it! I thought you were going to die! You collapsed! You were hardly breathing! I thought you were gone!"

"But I'm still alive."

"You are."

The treaty was signed a month or two later. The shifters were going to be safe. Caspian's wish had been accomplished. The hunters were now more focused on the more dangerous beings that killed without mercy. However, the vampires lived on the other side of the world, so we were safe. Apparently, the UK was crawling with them. And that's where most of the hunters were; protecting people.

I could hardly believe that both of our kinds were able to get along. We were safe. We were going to stay safe. We wouldn't have to live in fear any longer.

And Tyler and I's relationship? It was doing good. We were able to go and hang out instead of having to run from hunters, which was nice.

There was a trending tag at one point. It was called 'Girl who Speaks to Birds'.

And I guess that's me.

A/N- AND SHABOOM.

THIRD NOVEL THAT I'VE EVER WRITTEN.

FINISHED!

But did you see where I said this? :

'However, the vampires lived on the other side of the world, so we were safe. Apparently, the UK was crawling with them. And that's where most of the hunters were; protecting people.'

Did I just leave a possible sequel opening? *puts hands on cheeks in mock shock* I guess I did.

Yeah, new chapter of new book will be up tomorrow, be on the lookout for it.

I guess this is the end of Girl who Speaks to Birds.

Or is it?

Please comment, vote, share, and I'll see you one last time (for this book) in the comments. Bye for now.

P.S- Is the media a better cover than the current one?
