Chapter 51

It would've been a good plan, except for the fact that my phone was entirely out of power, and Trinity's phone was almost out, if it wasn't already.

"What did you say?"

"The internet. News can spread like wildfire there. Except that my phone is out of power, and Trinity's is too."

I thought to my tablet. A pang of sadness stuck me. The tablet that I had spent months saving up for was probably broken, or burned. I looked up at Tyler.

"Oh," he began "So, we'll just need to ask someone to use their phone."

"Or computer." I added. At that moment, I heard the flapping of wings. It was Trinity. She must've seen my distressed expression.

"What's wrong, Madelyn?"

"I was thinking that we could use the internet to get help, but my phone is out of power, your phone is out of power, and my tablet is either burnt or broken. It was in my bag, which was at the old hunter town."

"Can't you go to the library?" she asked "You know, they have computers there. And they don't filter what you can go on."

I was about to respond with 'Great idea!' when a thought struck me. "But can't they monitor what you go on? They'd know that it's me. And besides, everyone knows what I look like. Does it look like I want to be captured?"

"No, but I think we'll have to take this risk. It's a great idea, and it's our only chance."

"So, are you saying that I disguise myself? With what?"

"Well, there might be some berries or something that you could use to add coloring to your hair. It's a lighter color, which might help."

I glanced at my hair, then decided. It was actually quite the easy decision.

"Alright, but what about my wings?"

Trinity sighed, a look of focus forming on her face. Then, she spoke. "We could just get a large coat and hope nobody notices the two large lumps." she suggested.

"What's the chance of that working?"

"It could work, if you don't draw too much attention to yourself."

"Well, maybe it'd work. Maybe the librarian will be reading, and won't see me come in. I mean, when I'm reading, I don't give a crap about what's going on around me."

After a long session in which I used old clothes and attempted to sew them together and make a really large coat, and an even longer session which involved cutting and dying my hair, we went to the library.

Just as I suspected, the librarian was reading. I glanced at the cover, seeing one of John Green's novels.

"Focus, Madelyn."

I sat down at the computer, opening the browser. I typed 'WritePad' into the search bar, and logged in. I began typing a long explanation,

'So, you've probably heard in the news about the girl with wings. Madelyn Ruth. And though I promised myself I wouldn't put my real identity on the internet, it's important. Because I'm Madelyn Ruth.

Call me a liar if you want, but it's true. And I need help.

I want to make peace between the hunters - the ones hunting my friends and I - and the shifters. But they've been sending in many, many hunters. It's been overwhelming. And I thought 'What better way to get help than the internet?' So, I'm calling on you for help.

I don't care if the hunters see this, they already know I'm here. But we're in Haines City. And I would deeply appreciate if you came to help.'

I copied the note, and then put the chapter up. I opened a new tab, going onto Facebook. Yes, I had one. I pasted the note, and went onto Twitter. That was harder. How was I supposed to put all of that important information into one hundred and sixty characters? So, I did what I had to do. I resorted to text talk.

'I'm Madelyn Ruth," I began 'I need ur help.' I shuddered, hating to have to use text talk. But soon, that trainwreck in a hundred and sixty characters was over, and I went onto YouTube. Sure, I had a measly eleven followers. But, I could hope.

I went onto every social media site I could think of, from Pinterest to MySpace. Sure, it wasn't popular, but I could try. I could most definitely try.

My fingers felt numb from typing; I didn't even know I could feel that way. But I kept on doing it. After thirty four sites had been done, I glanced at the time. It was four twenty-five, just five minutes until the library would close.

I cleared the history - sure, it could be retrieved, but it was just a little precaution, in case the library staff decided to go scrolling through the computer history. I was about to leave the library when a book caught my eye. I swear, books will be the death of me.

I took the book from the shelf, running my fingers over the beautiful cover. It was the final book in the Heroes of Olympus series. I hadn't gotten around to reading it; mostly because I had heard it was filled with feels.

"The library is closing." said a voice, snapping me out of my daze. I turned around.

"I'll be going now." I replied. Then, I heard a gasp.

"It's the shifter!"

Like I said, books will be the death of me. I started towards the entrance, but something blocked my way. It was some sort of wolf-man creature.

"Werewolf. It's a werewolf. But how one managed to shift in plain daylight is unknown to me."

A vicious sounding snarl escaped it's lips. "Hello, Madelyn Ruth," he growled "It's me again. Your old buddy, Phred."

Oh, it was that jerk. I threw the jacket off, trying to go around him.

"Be careful, Madelyn. Werewolves fangs can poison, or curse one into being a werewolf."

Phred blocked my way. "Not so fast, little shifter."

He came nearer, and was about to bite me. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the pain.

The pain that never came. A man clad in all white dived in front of me, taking the bite. When he looked at me, I recognized him. It was the man who had tried to brainwash me.

"Go, Madelyn. The feud is wrong. They've began doing horrible things to the hunters, trying to make them superweapons, or corrupt their minds. It needs to be stopped."

His eyes dulled, and it looked like he was about to pass out. "Go! Save yourself! It's too late for me."

He collapsed. Phred glared at me, a growl rippling through the library. I backed away, then flew out.

A/N- Who saw that twist coming?

Nobody?

Also, if you hadn't seen, I'm removing Magic and Shifting from Wattpad on the 31st. It won't be gone forever, it'll still be in my drafts. Whether I bring it back some day or not is unclear. I am sorry. If you want to know why I'm taking it off, read the post on my profile.

Please vote, comment, share, and I'll see you all in the comments! Bye for now.

P.S- I'm like Madelyn in the sense that books will be the death of me. Who else is that way?
