Chapter 9 | Lights

I start to regain consciousness, my eyes fluttering open slowly. Memories of what happened flood my mind again before I'm struggling to get up, but my hands wouldn't move. I dazily look down and see that I'm bound to some type of fencing; constricting me from going anywhere. I hear a mumble beside me before I look up and see Kira sitting there, bound to the fence as well.

"Kira," I whisper, trying to get her attention. I glanced around at where we were, which looked like some type of power station. The lights flickered above us as Kira opens her eyes, widening when she remembers what happened.

"W-What's going on?" Kira says, yanking on her wrists. I lean closer to her, not getting much farther.

"I don't know, but we need to figure out how to get out of here." I had a bad feeling that this had something to do with Scott and his friends. I don't know why the guy would want Kira and I, but it didn't matter at the moment. All that mattered was that we got out of here alive.

Kira pulls some more on her wrists. "I can't break the zip tie."

I pull on mine as well, not getting anywhere. "We need to find something that we can use to our advantage. Do you see anything like a tool of some sort?"

Kira and I look around the room, not seeing anything. "I don't see anything. Maybe I can try and get my phone out and dial 911."

I nod my head as Kira attempts to get her phone out of her pocket, but she fails miserably. I remember that I had mine on me as well before I attempt, not getting anywhere as well. I just couldn't do anything without my hands. I felt hopeless.

"Now what?" Kira says, her bright eyes staring at me. I shake my head as I lean back against the fence, taking a deep breath.

"Now, we wait." Kira sighs as she leans her head back as well, moving around a little until she got comfortable.

"Who was that guy?" Kira asks, breaking the silence.

I lick my lips. "My guess is that it's Barrow."

"Barrow? As in the guy from the school? The psycho?" Kira says, worry and fear in her tone.

I nod my head. "That'd be him."

Kira's voice softens. "Oh my God, we're gonna die."

I look at her. "No we aren't. We're going to get out of this...alive."

Kira shakes her head. "Why would he want us though? Why didn't he want Scott?"

I stare in front of me, my vision going out of focus. "I don't know. He said something before he knocked me out though-"

"What?" Kira says desperately, looking at me. "What'd he say?"

I narrow my eyes, remembering what Barrow said before he knocked me out with that crow bar. "He said 'I found you guys. I found the children with the glowing eyes'."

Kira furrows her eyebrows. "What is that supposed to mean?"

I sigh. "It means the guy is a total nut job-"

"Excuse me?" I hear another voice say. Kira and I's heads flip towards the voice, seeing Barrow standing there. He had an eyebrow raised and his clothes had a crimson stain on the front. He looked insane.

"What do you want with us?" I growl lowly. Barrow pulls his hands out from behind his back, showing us Kira and I's phones. He grinned as he walked forward slowly, cocking his head to the side.

"I need proof," he says while holding the phones out, the familiar sounds of the clicking camera sounding from it. All I could think about was how crazy this man was. Why was he taking our pictures?

"What do you need proof for?" Kira says quietly, but loud enough for Barrow to hear.

Barrow lowers the phones. "For the ones who didn't believe."

I shake my head. "Believe what?"

He steps closer to me. "Believe that people like you do exist. That you really do glow."

Kira sits up farther. "You have your pictures now. Just let us go."

Barrow shakes his head. "Have you ever seen Village of the Damned? The original, not the remake. No one cares about the remakes."

I shake my head, anger rising in me. "No, we haven't seen a dumb movie."

Barrow glares at me as he continues. "It's about a group of blonde-haired beautiful children who can make their eyes glow. And they do terrible, terrible things."

Barrow comes closer to me, almost touching me. "When I told them I saw children who's eyes glowed, they didn't believe me. It was like they were paralyzed. But I'm going to shake them; I'm going to wake them up. I'm going to galvanize them."

I struggle to pull the bound off of my wrists, not getting any farther like last time. "You won't get away with this."

Barrow grins. "I already have."

Kira and I watch as the mental man gets up and walks behind one of the machines, coming back with a tank of gasoline and a lighter. I furrow my eyebrows as he walks over to me, setting the tank down. He stares at me, cocking his head to the side.

"I guess you're first," he says while picking the tank up, dumping the gasoline onto me. I gasp as the fuel runs down my hair and clothes, causing goosebumps to rise on my skin. I look up at Barrow, watching as he holds the lighter up.

"You're crazy," I say as he lights the lighter. "You're out of your mind!"

Barrow has a dull look on his face before he lets the flame go out, turning to Kira instead. He narrows his eyes as Kira widens hers, confused at what was even happening. "I change my mind. I want you to die first."

I start to kick and fuss as Barrow walks behind the machine again, coming back with what appeared to be a wire. It was cut in half, sparks flying off of the end. I knew what he was planning to do with it the moment he showed us.

He was going to electrocute Kira.

"You can't do this!" I scream as I kick and thrash around. Barrow doesn't listen as he walks over to Kira, holding the wire out towards her face. I watch as the sparks dance in front of her, a few coming into contact with her skin. She wrinkles her face up in pain, some of the sparks burning her flesh.

My head whips towards a noise that sounded like a door as Kira's and Barrow's do as well. I watch as Barrow turns and runs away, taking the wire with him. I furrow my eyebrows, surprised at how easily he gave up. I look back and watch as Scott runs around the corner, looking thankful to see us okay.

He starts to run over to us, a half smile on his face. "Are you guys okay?"

Neither of us get to answer before Barrow is running out again, this time striking Scott with the wire. Kira screams as I do as well, even though I know it won't kill him. Scott flies across the room and into one of the fences before falling to the ground in a heap, barely moving. For a second, I actually thought that he was dead.

Barrow laughs before he turns to Kira, walking towards her with the wire held out. I scream and kick as Scott lifts his head off of the ground, barely able to keep his eyes open. "Barrow-don't-she's not the one you want."

"Oh yes it is," Barrow smirks before he touches Kira with the wire, a bright light illuminating around us. I don't have time to worry about Kira as one of the sparks fly off and land on me, igniting my body in flames. I scream as the fire burns my skin, a hot sensation coursing through me. It reminded me of the fire a few years ago, making me even more scared than I was before.

I open my eyes, seeing nothing but a red hot flame. I notice that Barrow was no longer standing there; he was now lying across the room, dead. Scott was still on the ground as well, staring at the two of us with a dropped jaw. My body kicks and thrashes as the fire burns brighter, my skin already feeling as if it was slowly melting away.

But that wasn't the case.

After awhile, I wondered why I wasn't dead by now. I finally got the guts to look down at myself, seeing that I was still in one piece. The only thing missing was my clothes, but I wasn't really concerned with that at the moment. I was trying to figure out why and how I was still alive.

I look over at Kira, watching as all of the light flowed to her hands. It was as if she was absorbing the energy that Barrow shocked her with, and even more. I widen my eyes as she looks down at her hands, confusion written on her face. She glances at me also, looking even more confused after she did so.

I feel the zip tie break that was bounding my wrists as I pull my hands away, looking to see that the flame was finally dying down. All that was left on me was a black ash and a few little scars here and there. But other than that, I was perfectly fine. I should be dead right now, and I wasn't.

I go to look at Scott before I watch Stiles run in, a bat in hand. He stops in his tracks when he sees me, myself still naked I might add. He stares before I stand up, covering my breast's with my hands. "Woah," Stiles says before I widen my eyes, everyone just looking at me.

"Will somone get me some clothing?" I say, shaking my head. Stiles snaps into motion as he takes his red jacket off, tossing it to me. I catch it with one hand before wrapping it around my body, thanking God that it was bigger.

Scott and Stiles both just stare at the two of us, confused as to what happened. I look over at Kira, confusion written on both of our faces.

What were we?
