Chapter 5 | Only the Beginning

I scrambled farther away from Scott as he lay his hands on the hospital bed. He kept staring at me, a look of sadness and worry written across it.

"I'm not going to hurt you," Scott said again.

I pulled my knees tighter,"What do you want to talk about? You going to try to convince me to keep my mouth shut about you? To not say a peep or else you'll kill me?"

Scott sighed. "No. I came here to see if you were okay. You are in the hospital after all."

I looked around at the hospital room before relaxing a little bit. "Oh."

The corners of Scott's mouth curved upward for a few seconds before it was gone. "And I came to see if you have any questions."

I gulped. "Well, for starters, can you tell me what you are?"

Scott looked down for a moment before looking back up at me, his eyes glowing red. "I'm a werewolf."

He blinked and then his eyes were back to their normal brown. I didn't know what to say or think before he answered for me. "Before you ask...no, I haven't killed anybody."

I faintly sighed before resting my knees back down on the bed, relaxing. "Who else knows about you?"

Scott looked up for a moment. "Well, for starters, Stiles, Lydia, Allison, and Isaac all know."

I didn't know some of the names, but I took a mental note just in case. I was about to ask Scott another question when Stephen ran across my mind. I started to scrambled out of bed before Scott's hand stopped me.

"Where's Stephen? How is he?" I asked. "Where's Kira and my parents?"

Scott made me sit back down on the bed before answering. "They're all fine. Stephen and your dad had little head injuries but they'll be fine. They're all here; Kira, your mom; they're all fine."

I sighed in relief. A huge weight lifted off of my shoulders as I lay back down in my bed. I glanced around the room again before I noticed a vase of flowers sitting on one of the tables. There were gorgeous roses and lilies in a blue glass vase.

"What's that?" I said while nodding over to the flowers.

Scott looked at it before faintly smiling at me. "Stiles heard what happened and came over to see if everyone was alright. You were asleep, so he just left the flowers here."

My heart leapt as I stared at the flowers. Stiles actually came to see if I was okay. He came to visit me. Too bad I was asleep when he came.

I yawned before glancing at the clock, seeing that it was almost 9 o'clock. Scott stood up and looked down at me before he started to walk for the door.

"Get some rest," he said before turning around again.

"Scott," I said as he turned to look at me once again. My eyes lids became heavy as I tried to speak. "Don't tell Stephen. Don't tell him what you are."

Scott nodded at me,"I promise I won't."

"Good," I mumbled. "He can't know. He can't ever know."

Scott nodded at me before looking down, exiting the hospital room. I mumbled something before my eye lids closed, darkness consuming me once again.

-----------

I woke up again, sweating like crazy. I wiped the sweat off of my face and pulled my hair back into a low pony before noticing that my throat was dry. I must have had another bad dream.

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, noticing that my leg was completely healed again. For some reason, I wasn't as worried about it as much as I should be. I didn't have time to worry about myself. I had to worry about my brother.

A shiver ran down my spine as I hit the cold tile, looking out the window. I noticed that it was still dark outside before I looked at the clock, seeing that it was five in the morning. I didn't sleep long.

I looked at the vase of flowers as I passed by them, walking out the door. I stuck my head out into the hallway, seeing that no one was around. I walked slowly out, looking both ways down the long hallway. Still no one.

I remembered vaguely of a nurse saying which room Stephen was in, but I couldn't exactly remember. Was it 312 or 321? I don't know.

I decided to just go check both rooms or to ask someone if I saw them, but I doubt I will. I wonder where everyone is. Shouldn't at least one person be here? Beacon Hills Hospital doesn't sound very promising so far.

I was walking down the hallway when something up ahead caught my attention. It looked like a person, but I couldn't tell who. I couldn't see any part of them because of the darkness. Maybe it's a nurse.

"Excuse me!" I quietly yelled down the hallway, my voice echoing off of the walls. "Do you know where Stephen Manchester's room is?"

I started to walk toward the figure as I waited for an answer, but I didn't get one. I stopped in my tracks, staring at the person. I still couldn't make them out. "Excuse me?"

My heart started racing when another person stepped out from behind them, staring at me also. I took a step back, my hospital gown pressing against my legs. "Hello?" I called again. Something isn't right.

That was when three more figures stepped out, looking identical to the first one I saw. I was frozen for a minute as I stared at them before they took a step forward, their footsteps in synch. I widened my eyes before turning and running as fast as I could, but that didn't last long.

I turned the corner of the hallway and almost slammed into something. I looked up and saw that it was another one of those figures. Something was off about it though. It had this black smoke coming off of it and it was wearing a mask. It didn't look human.

I started to back away, staring in awe. I slammed into something else behind me, making me whip around. It was another one of those figures. It looked the exact same as the rest. Shadowy and soulless.

I felt a scream leave my lips as the figure reached up with its hand, it resting behind my ear. It lifted up its other hand, squeezing it. I gasped as my scream faded, making me lose my breath. It was almost as if it stole my scream.

It lowered its hand as it's eyes turned green, staring into me. I cocked my head to the side, confused at what was happening. It was like the thing was staring into my soul. Like it was about to take my life.

The connection was broken when something slammed into the side of the figures face, making it turn its head. I gasped as my breath came back to me, making me back away from the thing. I looked over and saw a curly haired women holding part of a broken chair, breathing heavily as she looked at me.

"Run!" She yelled before the figure ran at her. I stayed put as she dodged him, lifting the chair up higher on her arms. The figure stood there, almost as if it was laughing at us. "That's right. Come on. Fight me," the women said while scoffing.

The figure didn't hesitate as it reached into its chest, pulling something out from the shadowy darkness. I had to squint to see what it was, but I could then tell that it was a sword. A samurai sword.

The women sulked down as she backed away, lowering the chair. I could tell the figure was laughing as it swung the sword around, showing off. I knew there was no way we could win this fight. I didn't hesitate as I ran forward, pulling on the woman's arm to follow me. She did as we both ran down the dimly lit hallway, twisting and turning. After about three minutes of running, I stopped.

I looked around the corner, seeing that they weren't behind us. I turned back and saw the woman breathing heavily, hunched over. "What was that?"

She shook her head. "I don't know. But it's a good thing I heard you scream."

I noticed how heavy she was breathing while I was fine. I've always been a good runner. I never get worn out. "Thanks for saving me."

She smiled faintly. "It's no problem. I'm used to doing things like this."

I laughed slightly before looking around the corner again, seeing nothing. "What's your name?" She asked.

I turned back around. "Sarah. Sarah Manchester."

"So you're Sarah?" She said while standing up. "I'm Melissa. I'm your neighbor. Scott's mom."

I raised my eyebrows. "Nice to meet you. I guess that was the perfect way to formally meet."

She laughed. "Tell me about it."

I froze when I heard a sizzling type sound, Melissa hearing it as well. I calmly looked around the corner again, seeing two of the shadow figures. They were farther down the hallway, but it made me nervous.

"How do you beat these things?" I whispered while looking at Melissa. "And how did that thing pull a sword out of its chest?"

She shook her head. "I don't know. But we need to get out of here."

I didn't have to say anything to agree with her. We both started running down the hallway again, away from the two figures. Before long, we reached an elevator. We both got inside and pressed the button for the bottom floor.

"This is crazy," I mumbled under my breath.

I wanted to know what in the hell those things were and what they wanted. Why did they want me? Why am I so special? And how can they just pull random weapons out of their chests? Sounds pretty crazy to me.

When those elevator doors opened, I ran like crazy. I wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. The only thing I was worried about was Stephen. I prayed that he was okay. If he wasn't, I don't know what I would do. He's all I have left.

I sighed a breath of relief when I saw the exit doors. I faintly saw daylight shinning through the clouds as I looked back at Melissa, seeing that she was following behind me. But when I turned back around, my heart stopped.

Standing there was three of the figures.

I backed up slowly, looking for any type of weapon that I could use. I couldn't find anything useful, so I just started throwing random things. Things like pens, folders, and papers.

I chucked a binder as hard as I could at one of the figures, hitting it right in the face. It didn't even flinch as the binder fell to the floor, creating a thump. Melissa was helping me throw things as the sun light started to shine through the doors. I threw another pen at them before they looked behind them, staring at the light flooding to them.

I stopped throwing things when I watched the figures as shadowy smoke came off of them. I cocked my head to side as they faded away, almost as if they were ghosts. As if they were never there in the first place.

In an instant, they were gone. No trace of them. I walked forward, looking at the spot where they disappeared. All that was left were papers, binders, and pens.

I looked back at Melissa, a confused look on my face and along with hers. I sighed, having a feeling that this was just the beginning. The beginning of all of this.

Maybe we shouldn't have came to Beacon Hills.
