Chapter 25 | Sinful Crimes

I felt some type of dull ache as I walked behind the nogitsune, trying to figure out how I was supposed to feel. My friend had died and Stiles had seen what had happened to me; how I was unrecognizable. A part of me screamed that this wasn't me; that I was being controlled, but another part latched on and told me that I was doing was the right thing. So that's why I ignored all of those other feelings and instead was now following the nogitsune through the hospital, wondering what our next task was.

"You're awfully quite," the nogitsune says, glancing slightly over his shoulder.

I bite my lip. "Just trying to process what all happened."

"Well stop," he says, turning and facing me now. His expression had changed severely. "Stop processing and start doing. If you take too long to think, you'll miss opportunities."

I furrow my eyebrows. "Opportunities like what?"

He smirks before two black figures form behind him, who I recognized as the Oni. They looked emotionless; lifeless as they stood there, waiting for orders. The nogitsune turns away from me and speaks to the two Oni.

"Find Melissa McCall," he says, her name sparking some type of feeling in me. "Find her and kill her."

The two Oni don't even nod before they turn around, walking through the hallway and searching every room in the hospital. I watch them for awhile before they disappear around the corner, screams beginning to echo though the hallways as well.

The nogitsune turns back to me. "Anyone you want revenge on?"

I widen my eyes at his comment, trying to think of possibly anyone who had done me wrong. For a moment I thought of my father, but I knew that he wasn't worth my time. Then I thought of another person; one that dragged me into all of this in the first place.

"Scott McCall," I say, certain of my answer. "I want revenge on Scott McCall."

The nogitsune seems fascinated. "Scott? Isn't he your friend-"

"Was," I say, thinking back to how he treated me after he found out I wasn't the real Sarah. They way he had glared at me with those red eyes; deep hatred behind them. I wanted him to pay for that car wreck; since our attacker was after Scott in the first place. If he wouldn't have been there, then maybe Stephen and my adoptive parents wouldn't have been in the hospital. They could have even died because of him.

"Are you sure?" the nogitsune says as more screams echo down the hall.

I nod my head, hate filling my chest. "I'm sure."

The nogitsune smirks before nodding his head down the hall. "Let's not waste anymore time then, shall we?"

----------

"The school?" I ask as we walk up to the doors. "Why the school?"

"I figured it would make a good fight scene," he says, shrugging.

I shake my head. "But what about Scott?"

The nogitsune smirks once again. "Don't worry about him. He'll be coming to us."

I nod my head before I swing the doors open to the school, confused at what I saw. Instead of seeing the familiar long hallway that I walk down every weekday, I saw some type of garden with white snow flakes falling from the sky. It did look quite beautiful.

"What is this place?" I ask, almost starstruck. I take a step inside, the snow crunching below my foot.

The nogitsune stays in the doorway. "It's called Bardo; the place between life and death. But I like to use it to manipulate people; which is what you're going to do with Scott."

I turn and face him. "What? How?"

He lifts his chin. "Whatever you think will happen for the most part. Here, let me show you."

I furrow my eyebrows before I turn back around, seeing five Oni standing there with their swords drawn. They really did look real; not like it was a fragment of my imagination. The nogitsune hums in approval before I turn and face him again.

"How are you going to get Scott here?" I say, wondering. "He'll surely be with his friends."

"Leave that part to me," he says, his eyes narrowing in a dark manor. "Don't worry; I have it all under control."

I nod my head before he starts to close one of the doors, it slightly creaking as he did so. He stops himself for a moment, peeking his head inside.

"Good luck," he says before closing the door, leaving me in this place he called Bardo. I sigh before I turn back around, admiring the scenery once again. It really was quite beautiful with the snow flakes and the bushes covered in snow. The Oni even looked real mixed in with all of it.

I decide to test this mind thing out as I think of one of the Oni fighting, which is does so. I jump back slightly as it swings its sword, the other four Oni standing there like soldiers. I knew then that I was going to have some fun with this.

I start to think of something else for the Oni to do before I hear the door open up behind me again, causing me to whip around suddenly. I narrow my eyes for a moment when I see Scott standing there; his eyes wide in confusion. But my stomach knotted when I saw someone else behind him.

It was Stiles.

The doors slam shut behind the two of them, causing them to look back themselves. Their hearts pound in their chests as they try and figure out what's happening; but they have no idea themselves. I was hoping to have a one on one battle with Scott; not with him and the boy I liked.

"Sarah?" Stiles breathes, turning and staring at me. My eyes soften at the sound of his voice, but my heart remains cold as stone.

"Where are we?" Scott says as he takes a step towards me, looking back and seeing that people were missing. "What happened to Lydia and Kira?"

I glare at him. "To answer your first question, you're in Bardo."

"Bardo?" Scott says, his jaw falling open slightly. "Between life and death?"

"Exactly," I snap, the Oni behind me remaining still.

Scott shakes his head. "What about Lydia and Kira?"

I half smirk. "Let's just say they're in good hands."

Scott thinks for a moment before he narrows his eyes, hatred behind them once again. "Sarah I swear to God if he touches them-"

"You'll what?" I mock, scoffing slightly. "You can't kill him, so what are you going to do Scott?"

He shakes his head, not having an answer. I lift my chin in pride before Stiles steps forwards this time, still staring at me as if he couldn't understand why I was doing this in the first place

"Sarah..." he says, drifting off. I look over at him, folding my hands behind my back. "This isn't you Sarah. Look at yourself; you're trying to hurt your friends."

"Does it look like I care?" I snap, holding my emotions back. Stiles seems taken back by my answer before Scott glares at me again, growling through gritted teeth.

"What are we doing here?" he says, shaking his head.

I raise my eyebrows. "Well, only you were supposed to be here Scott, but now there's twice the fun. You're here to get what you deserve; payback for everything you've done to me."

Scott cocks his head slightly. "Payback? For what? All I've ever done for you is help-"

"Liar!" I scream, already knowing that he would tell me lies. "You didn't help me when you put my brother and family in the hospital now, did you? You didn't help me figure out what I was either, did you? All you've brought me is heart ache, Scott."

Scott puts his hands up in a defensive manor. "Sarah, you know that wreck wasn't my fault. I didn't cause that wreck-"

"Yes you did," I growl. "That girl that caused us to swerve off of the road? She said she was looking for you and only you. If you wouldn't have been there, none of that would have happened in the first place."

Scott has a strange expression on his face. "Maybe, but if I wouldn't have been there, I wouldn't have been able to save your family and Kira from the wreck-"

"Which wouldn't have happened because of you," I snap, causing his face to drain. He knew he was wrong and that he was running out of excuses. "Everything that has happened is because of you, Scott! You caused that wreck, which caused my brother to become curious, which caused him to be at the police station when it blew up, putting him in the hospital. You also caused that Barrow guy to kidnap Kira and I; setting me on fire and electrocuting her. We could have died, Scott! Everything that has happened ever since I moved to this damn town is because of you! That's why you're going to pay. You're going to pay for what you did to me and everyone else."

I send a thought out to the Oni before they draw their swords, pointing them all directing towards Scott. He takes a step backwards as Stiles does as well, alarmed that I was doing this to them. Stiles stares the swords for a moment before he looks up at me, pain behind his eyes.

"Sarah, you have to stop this," he taunts. "He's controlling you; I know you know that. Everything you and him--I--have done, it wasn't us. You have to fight it, Sarah. You have to snap out of this."

I shake my head, not listening to a word he said. "Everything that I've done was for you, Stiles. You deemed this upon me the moment you told me to do what was right back at the hospital before your MRI. Not only is this Scott's fault, but it's yours as well."

Stiles' face drains. "Sarah, that wasn't what I had meant-"

"I don't care," I say while biting my tongue. "All I care is that you both need to pay for you've done."

"What about what you've done?" Stiles says suddenly, causing me to stop in my tracks. "What we've done?"

I narrow my eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Stiles knew he was getting through to me as he takes a step towards me. "That man we killed, Sarah. You and I both did that. What about the betrayal you inflicted against Scott? What about Allison?"

I hold my breath for a moment at what he says, but I soon do my best to ignore it. "I didn't kill Allison."

"But you tried," Stiles says, pure pain and desperation behind his voice. "You would have killed her too if I wouldn't have stopped you."

"You shouldn't have," I say, trying my best to shut him down. "I would have loved to push that sword through her heart."

A tear falls down Stiles' cheek as he stares at me, an unrecognizable look on his face. Scott roars at me after I say this, this being one of the last straws for him. Stiles looks like he's about to choke something out, but I don't let him.

"Kill them," I say to the Oni, smiling slightly as I watched them run towards Stiles and Scott. Scott transforms and steps in front of Stiles, his red eyes glowing.

The Oni swing their swords before fighting ensues.
