Chapter 21 | Trust Issues

"What exactly are we doing here again?" I ask as Stiles and I step into the loft. Stiles looks around for a moment before turning and facing me.

"We're here because I know they'll look for us here," Stiles says. "We'll need someone to protect us when nightfall comes, right?"

I nod my head before stepping down the steps. "Yeah, but we could have at least cleaned up the blood we left back at your house."

Stiles rolls his eyes. "Yeah, but where's the fun in that?"

I cross my arms, raising an eyebrow. "Care to explain to me what that was back there?"

Stiles looks confused. "What? You took his pain and then-"

"Not that," I say before he nods, realizing that I meant what happened between the two of us. It was all so confusing for me. Like I wasn't myself, but I liked Stiles, but he wasn't Stiles, and it was just so...weird.

Stiles nods. "Well, if you want me to sum it up for you, we had sex."

"No shit," I say, rolling my eyes. "I mean, why?"

Stiles smirks as he walks over to me, his lips speaking against my neck. Goosebumps rise on my skin as he whispers. "To pass the time."

I furrow my eyebrows before I hear the door open up behind me, causing me to turn and see Sheriff Stilinski walk inside. His face was pale and he had two pairs of handcuffs in his hands. This should be interesting.

"Stiles?" he says as Stiles looks up at him, his facial expression changing dramatically.

He smiles. "Hey, dad."

The Sheriff steps closer as his eyes flick to me, shaking his head. "Not you too, Sarah."

Play along, Sarah.

"I-I had to," I say, sadness behind my voice; but it was all a lie. "I had to try and save Stiles."

The Sheriff shakes his head as he walks towards us slowly. "Not like this."

I don't say anything more before Stiles nods towards the handcuffs. "You wanna handcuff us?"

The Sheriff looks hurt. "If a part of my son still exists, then I know he'll come willingly because he knows his father is just trying to protect him from himself and from others."

I glance over at Stiles, wondering if this is what he wanted. I wasn't sure if he wanted to play along far enough to where he handcuffed us both or to act before he can do so.

Stiles stares at the floor for a moment before slowly raising his hands, showing that he was giving himself up. I narrow my eyes for a moment before doing the same; watching as the Sheriff walked over to the two of us.

Wait for it.

I glance over at Stiles again as he gives me an evil look, showing me that he was about to cut the act soon. I turn back and watch as the Sheriff handcuffs Stiles; as if it would do anything. He slowly turns and handcuffs me as well, snapping the metal around my wrists.

Now.

I smirk as the Sheriff notices, knowing that he just screwed up majorly. Stiles snaps the handcuffs off around his wrist with ease as I make my hands grow hot; the metal melting right off from around my wrists. I roll my wrists around as I laugh, glad to get those dumb handcuffs off.

"You're not my son," the Sheriff says as Stiles raises an eyebrow, finding amusement in all of this. I had to say, it was pretty entertaining.

I cock my head slightly when I see three other people step into the loft; Derek, Allison and Chris. Allison walks down to us as she points a taser gun in our faces, not afraid to pull the trigger if she had to.

"What are you going to do with that?" I laugh as Allison shakes her head. I could tell she hated seeing me like this.

"This," she says before pulling the trigger. I widen my eyes as I dodge the bolt of electricity; but Stiles doesn't. He reaches out and catches the string as sparks fly off of it; not harming Stiles in any way. He smirks as he stretches out the wire before pulling the gun away from Allison, tossing it across the room.

After Stiles does this, Derek tries to attack. He growls at us before he runs towards me; deciding to go for the girl first. How rude. I shake my head as he swings his claws at me, causing me to dodge it with ease. My hands grow hot as I grab his white shirt, my hand bawling into a fist. I turn and grab his arm before twisting it, hearing bone break. I grin before I turn and throw him across the room, his body slamming into one of the pillars.

He grunts before hitting the ground, turning and looking up at me as if I was some type of God. I smile down at him before I hear movement from Chris, causing me to turn and see that he was now holding a gun to Stiles' head.

Strife.

"Put the gun down Chris," the Sheriff says as he holds his hands up. "You don't want to do this."

Chris shakes his head. "Werewolves, berserkers; I can easily add a nogitsune to that list."

Stiles raises his eyebrows. "Do it then. End it."

The Sheriff seems terrified. "Chris, put the gun down. You honestly can't shoot a teenage boy-"

"This isn't your son anymore," he says, shaking his head. "This is only a demon wearing his face. Your son is gone."

My mouth drops slightly when I see the Sheriff pull a gun out; pointing it towards Chris. "You aren't going to shoot my son."

Stiles grins. "Your son is no longer here, Sheriff. Do it Chris. Shoot me."

Chris tightens his grip on the gun as the Sheriff shakes his head. "Lower the gun Chris!"

Chris shakes his head as Stiles face softens. He turns and looks back at his father. "Dad, don't let him shoot me. Please."

I silently admire what Stiles was doing; it was the perfect way to cause strife. Keep playing both of them and soon one will act.

"Put the gun down or I'll put you down!" the Sheriff yells to Chris. Chris doesn't move.

Stiles looks at Chris as I notice that nightfall was coming. "Do it! Shoot me!"

My heart races before I hear Allison's frail voice speak up from beside me. "Strife..."

She figured it out.

"Stop this! This is what he wants!" Allison yells over the two adults. They stop and look at her. "He wants to cause strife!"

I grin at Allison. "That's right, Allison."

Stiles shrugs. "Actually, I was hoping that Scott would be here, but I'm glad you all have your guns out, because you're not here to kill us."

I follow Stiles closely behind as he turns around, looking back at the window as four of the Oni materialize inside of the loft. "You're here to protect us."

Stiles and I step behind everyone as they open fire; gun shots ringing in my ears. I wanted to stick around for the fight, but I knew that Stiles and I needed to get out of here.

Stiles grabs my wrist before he tugs me out of the loft, leaving the chaos we caused behind.

-----

"What are we doing here again?" I groan as we step through the Eichen House basement doorway. Stiles looks back at me before speaking in my mind.

You'll see.

I roll my eyes before we walk down the steps, turning the corner and finding a woman standing there. I groan when I realize that it was Noshiko.

"Why that kanji? Why self?" Stiles asks, his voice dark.

Noshiko turns around suddenly, scared to see that we were there. "It signifies that Rhys died as himself. Because Rhys wasn't a monster, not like you."

Stiles laughs at her, causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand. "Why did you call off the Oni? What happened to the woman who called out chaos, strife, and pain for everyone and everything?"

She shakes her head before I notice she was holding a tail in her hands. "I don't want those things anymore."

Stiles narrows his eyes. "I do."

I widen my eyes before Stiles takes the dagger from Noshiko; stepping back and slicing it across his stomach. My heart sinks at what he did; worried for Stiles and the nogitsune both.

Don't worry.

"What are you doing!" Noshiko cries out, confused at why he was doing this. Stiles laughs before falling onto his knees, looking up at Noshiko.

"Chaos has come again."

I watch as flies begin to pour out of Stiles' wound; buzzing around Noshiko's face as she tries to swat them away. I begin to run towards Stiles to help, but before I do, I hear his voice in my head again.

Go. I'll handle this. Act like yourself around Scott and everyone; be the trickster. I'll see you again soon.

After I hear this, I look back over at Stiles and find that he was gone. I shake my head before I look back at Noshiko, seeing that she was still blinded by the flies. I use this as my advantage as I turn and run out of the basement, not looking back.

-----

I run my fingers over a chess piece Stiles had given me earlier; one that happened to be a Queen. I was now sitting on the doorstep to my home; waiting for Stephen to get home. I knew that he was in the hospital, but I had heard that they released him earlier. A part of me cared to actually see him, but I mostly was only here to use him to my advantage.

I kept wondering what the nogitsune was planning. I mean, I trusted him, but why would he cut himself? Why the flies? None of it made sense to me and I desperately wanted to know.

"Sarah?"

I look up when I see Stephen standing there, a cast on his arm. There were some bandages wrapped around his shoulder and I could faintly smell the blood. I fake smiled as I stood up, sort of glad to see him.

"What-Where have you been?" he asks me as I shake my head. I walk closer to him, setting my hand on his shoulder.

"Stephen, there's something going on right now that you wouldn't understand," I say, shaking my head. "But can you promise me that you'll trust me?"

Stephen seems confused for a moment before he nods. "Yeah. I'll always trust you."

I smile. "Then follow me."

Stephen furrows his eyebrows for a moment before he follows after me, walking across the street with me. I decided to listen to what the nogitsune had said earlier; trick everyone, including Scott. So that's why I was going to Scott's house, who lived across the street from me. Stephen was with me to keep them from hurting me; mostly since they'd do anything to protect Stephen from the truth. At least, I hoped.

"What are we doing?" Stephen asks from behind me.

I smile to myself. "You'll see."

Stephen stands behind me as I walk into Scott's house, not bothering to knock. I listen for Scott or for some type of movement before I hear someone come running from the living room; coming to see who was at the door. I put on a broken and terrified expression before I see Scott step into the room.

"Sarah?" Scott says, his eyes scanning me. He looks at me for a moment before he notices Stephen standing there as well.

I shake my head before I run towards Scott, throwing my arms around his neck. "Scott, you don't know how glad I am to see you."

He tenses for a moment before he relaxes, whispering in my ear. "Is this really you?"

I hold up the act. "It's me. Stiles he-the nogitsune hurt himself and he let me go. I don't know where he is or what's happening, but I think he might be dead."

Scott pulls away from me, believing that I actually was myself again. I laughed on the inside, knowing that he would fall for almost anything. And boy, was that going to be a mistake.

Scott looks over at Stephen for a moment. "How are you feeling Stephen?"

Stephen nods. "Better, but can someone explain to me what's going on?"

Scott looks down at me as I give him a look telling him not to say a word. "We'll tell you after all of this blows over, okay? You should go home and get some rest."

Stephen seems hesitant for a moment before he nods, looking back at me. "Don't you leave again Sarah. We all were worried about you."

I nod. "I won't. I promise."

I lied.

Stephen nods before turning and walking out of the house, leaving Scott and I alone in the room. I start to turn back to talk to Scott some more, but before I can, Scott is wrapping his hand around my neck. I gasp as he lifts me upwards, glaring me in the eyes.

"Scott," I gasp, not understanding why he was doing this. Maybe I wasn't as tricky as I though I was.

Scott shakes his head. "Someone once tried to trick us long ago and it taught me to never believe someone until you were for sure. So tell me Sarah, is it really you? Or are you just some sick distraction?"

I gasp as I kick my feet, desperate to be back on the ground. "Scott, I-It's me. It's Sarah-"

"Prove it," Scott says, his voice dark.

I think back for a moment, thinking of something that only the real Sarah would know. "Back when we had the car wreck, when I saw you for the first time, I was terrified of you Scott. I was afraid to talk to you in fear of what you could do to me. But you proved me wrong and showed me that you really are a good person, Scott. You have to believe me. I'm the real Sarah; the nogitsune let me go."

Scott narrows his eyes as he stares at me, trying to decide whether or not I was lying. I focused on my heart rate the whole time I spoke; mostly since I didn't want him to think I was lying. I must have pulled it off, because Scott soon lowered me to the ground.

"I'm sorry," he says, running his fingers through his hair. "I just wasn't sure-"

"It's alright," I say, rubbing my neck. "You have every right to be cautious."

Scott nods before I hear someone in the other room yell, calling for Scott. "Scott! He's awake!"

I furrow my eyebrows before Scott turns and runs into the living room, me right behind him. I widen my eyes when I see Stiles sitting on the couch, a grin plastered on his face. He was staring at me and laughing, knowing that I pulled it off. I wink at him subtlety before he speaks in my mind.

Good job. Now it's time for you to use that trust to your advantage.

----

Gah I love writing about Void Sarah. It's so interesting to write about her being a complete opposite person :P
