Chapter 14 | All Nighter

"Scott?" I say in a groggy tone, just waking up from sleep. It was one in the morning and Scott decided to call me for some odd reason.

"Hey Sarah," Scott says in tone putting me a little on edge. He sounded like something was terribly wrong. "Has Stiles called you?"

I furrow my eyebrows. "Stiles? No, why?"

Scott's breath is shakey. "He's missing."

My heart stops. "What? What do you mean he's missing?"

Scott sounds like he's about to throw up from nerves. "I-I don't know. He called me and told me he didn't know where he was. I think he's been sleep walking."

I jump out of bed and start to slip on a pair of sweats. "Just hang on. I'll be over in a sec."

Scott doesn't say anything, but I could tell that he was nodding. I hang up the phone before shoving it into my pocket, grabbing my Nike slacks and a sweatshirt. It's supposed to be the coldest night of the year, meaning that we needed to find Stiles as soon as possible. Who knows how long he's already been gone.

I start to walk out of my room before I see a door open, revealing a very sleepy Stephen. His eyes blink as he stares at me, confused as to why I was up.

"Where are you going? What's going on?" He asks, running his fingers through his long hair.

I shake my head, trying to get away from him in the easiest way possible. "I uh-Kira's car broke down on the way home from a party. She called and asked if I could go get her."

Stephen nods before yawning. "Oh. But it's one in the morning?"

"She was out late," I say, ready for this conversation to end. Stephen nods before disappearing back inside of his room, causing me to practically bolt down the stairs and out of the house.

I manage to slip away from Vanesa and Zach as I run across the street, not needing to get into my car since Scott was my neighbor. I don't even knock before I'm running into the house, hearing Scott moving around upstairs. I trample up the steps before reaching Scott's room, finding him and another boy I haven't seen before looking at me.

"Who's this?" I ask, faintly remembering the boy from the first day of school.

Scott looks over at the boy. "Oh, that's Isaac. I guess you two haven't met?"

I shake my head as Isaac lowers his head to the floor, not bothering to look me in the eyes. "Where do you think Stiles is?"

Scott shakes his head, his eyes showing sadness. "We aren't sure. He didn't tell me much when we were on the phone-"

As if on cue, Scott's phone starts to ring. My heart literally stops in my chest as Scott answers the phone, putting it on speaker so we all could hear. "Hello?"

"Scott," I hear Stiles say, his voice wavering. "D-Did you call my dad?"

Scott looks up at me, listening closely. "No, it's just Isaac, Sarah, and I."

Stiles sucks in a shaky breath. "Sarah is t-there?"

I nod even though he can't see. "Yeah, I'm here. We're going to find you Stiles."

Stiles doesn't pause. "P-please don't call my dad. Don't let Scott call him Sarah."

Scott gives me a look saying 'no way' before he looks back at the phone. "Stiles, where are you? Can you describe it?"

Stiles is silent for a moment as we listen to him breathe into the phone. I gulp as I wait for Stiles to answer, my mind worrying deeply for him. What if he was out in the middle of the woods? What if he was freezing to death? What if he was seriously hurt?

"It's a basement I think. Yeah...It's a basement," Stiles says, sounding as if he was looking around him. "I-It's big; like it's industrial. There's a furnace, but it's f-freezing down here."

My stomach feels sick after he says this. "You don't have any clue as to where you might be?"

Stiles sobs softly. "I-I can't see. There's a smell- it's making my eyes water."

I think for a moment. "What does it smell like?"

"I-I don't know," Stiles says before talking faster, his voice at a low whisper. "Guys, I have to go. My phone is about to die and-"

We hear a loud bang in the background, causing my heart to race in my chest. "Stiles? What's going on?"

Stiles sounds as if he's crying. "I think there's something down here."

Scott's hand begins to shake. "Stiles, listen to me okay? If you can, find a way to get out of there. We're coming to find you, so hold on tight."

Stiles' breath shakes again. "O-Okay. I better go."

"Stiles wait-" I start to say before he's gone. Scott lowers the phone before shaking his head, holding back tears. I could tell that hearing his best friend scared really hurt him. I didn't know Stiles as well as Scott, but it hurt me too.

"What do we do now?" Isaac asks, looking between the two of us.

Scott looks up then, a determined look on his face. "Now we go find Stiles."

------

"Lydia?" I say as we step into Stiles' room. I widen my eyes when I see red string from Stiles' wall attached to a pair of scissors, which were stuck inside of Stiles' bed. I gasp and cover my mouth with my hand before shaking my head. "What is this?"

Lydia looks back at the scene. "We aren't sure."

"Wait," Scott says, raising an eyebrow. "Did Stiles call you too?"

Aiden and Lydia exchange a look. "No, I had a feeling."

"A feeling?" I say, lowering my hand. "Like you had a feeling that Stiles was going crazy?"

Lydia shakes her head. "No, I had a feeling that something was wrong with him."

I nod my head stiffly before walking around the two of them, giving Aiden an odd stare as well. After I do this, I look closer at the scene, making me more scared about all of this than I was before.

"Stiles uses red for an unsolved case," Lydia proceeds. "I think that maybe he thinks he's apart of an unsolved case."

"Or is an unsolved case," Isaac adds, not making any of us feel better. My fingers run over the red string before I look back at the four of them.

Lydia turns to the two boys. "Wait, why are you guys here?"

Scott looks around the room. "We came here to get a better scent. Stiles told us that he was in a basement, was cold, and that he's bleeding-"

"Bleeding?" I say, widening my eyes. "You didn't tell me that he was hurt!"

Scott and Isaac are surprised at my sudden burst of rage. "Sorry, I must have forgotten to mention it."

I run my fingers through my hair, furious that they didn't tell me this. Now that I knew that he was hurt, all of this seemed more real, if that made any sense. Before, it felt like a game of hide and seek, but now I realized how real it actually is.

"Uh, Sarah?" Lydia says as I look at her, furrowing my eyebrows. She motions towards my hand before I look over and see that it was red, looking as if it was burning the string attached to Stiles' mattress. I quickly pull my hand away before it has the chance to start a fire, which was a good thing since I didn't want to burn Stiles' house down.

"Sorry," I mutter before Aiden looks around.

"Isn't tonight supposed to be one of the coldest nights of the year?" he says, looking around at all of us.

"No shit," I say, starting to get snappy because of the lack of sleep and my worry for Stiles. "It's not like I'm wearing sweats and a sweatshirt."

Scott sighs before ending the fight. "It's supposed to drop in the 20s."

Lydia looks up at Scott. "What does the Sheriff think about all of this?"

Scott sulks for a moment. "We didn't tell him."

Lydia turns furious. "You didn't tell his father that he was missing? How could you do that?"

"I made him a promise," Scott says, looking up slowly. He looked like a little innocent puppy.

Lydia shakes her head while taking her phone out. "Well, he didn't make me promise anything."

Scott holds his hands out. "Please don't call him-"

"I'm calling him!" Lydia yells right back. I could see that she wasn't going to give up easily. "You can't stop me."

Scott sighs. "Okay, listen. Us three will go down to the station and tell him ourselves. Sound good?"

Lydia lowers the phone. "Okay. I'll stay here."

"Why?" I ask, not understanding why she'd want to stay here at this scene.

Lydia looks around. "Something is here. I can feel it."

I hold my hands up, confused by almost everything. "Okay, well i'm going to leave you and your banshee abilities alone so you can do your thing. I'm out."

I leave the room and walk out into the hall as Isaac and Scott talk to Aiden and Lydia some more about something I could probably care less about. My main focus right now was to find Stiles, not to rely on other's supernatural abilities to find him. We all knew the only way we were going to find him was by searching, not by waiting for a miracle.

I start to head towards the stairs before I stop. I look up on the wall and see a photo of Stiles, his father, and another woman I didn't recognize. My eyes soften when I realized that it must be his mother, the one that died from some type of disease.

Stiles looked maybe eight years old in the photo and his father actually had some hair on his head. His mother was wearing a pretty blue top and white jeans while Stiles was still wearing a nice plaid shirt. I smile to myself as I notice that the photo must have been taken out in the woods, since there was a gorgeous view of the trees behind them.

Tears start to form in my eyes as I remember my mother. I was around the same age as Stiles when his mother died, which was another thing the two of us had in common. Every time I thought back about my mother, the first thing I remembered was the way she would always hum to herself whenever she did chores around the house.

She sang tunes that I was familiar with; most of them being songs that were popular back then. She would always sing me a song before I went to bed, and that song was still stuck in my head to this day. It had a tune mixed between Mary had a little lamb and twinkle twinkle little star, a type of lullaby that got stuck in your head the moment you heard it.

I smile to myself as I sing it in my head, remembering it very clearly. For a split second, I was a little bit happy. I rarely thought back to good memories about my mother and when I did I would feel like I was myself, not some orphaned freak who's mother died in a fire.

"Sarah?"

I whip around when I see Scott standing there, his eyebrows furrowed. I look up at him as he glances between me and the photo of Stiles' mother, seeming to understand why I was so dazed about the photo.

"What was her name?" I ask, sincerety in my tone.

Scott takes a deep breath. "Claudia. Claudia Stilinski."

I nod my head slowly before looking back at the photo. "Did you know her?"

Scott scoffs slightly. "Know her? Of course I knew her. She was like my second mother."

I smile softly. "I'm sorry about what happened to her."

Scott nods, looking down at the floor. "I am too."

Scott and I are silent for a moment before I look nod towards the stairs, causing Scott to look up. I smile faintly at him before starting to walk towards the stairs.

"Let's go find Stiles."
