Chapter 11 | Confusion
"Good morning," I say as I walk into the kitchen, seeing Stephen sitting there. He stares into his bowl of cereal before he looks up at me, his face still showing that he was angry with me.
"Good morning," he practically mumbles before taking another bite of his Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I sigh before I look around, not seeing Vanesa or Zach.
"Where are Vanesa and Zach?" I ask as I open the fridge, taking out a jug of apple juice. I grab a cup from the cabinet before pouring some of the juice into the glass.
Stephen doesn't look up at me. "They both had to go to some meeting for work."
I nod my head before remembering everything about last night. "Where did you go last night?"
Stephen looks up after I ask this. "I went out with a friend."
"What friend?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
Stephen nods his head. "That guy Scott."
I narrow my eyes, knowing that he was lying. Scott was at the party last night with Kira. "Oh really?"
Stephen nods and takes another bite of his cereal as I start to take a drink from my apple juice. "Yeah, I went over to his house and we played video games."
I take a big gulp of my drink, almost choking on my laughter. I shake my head at my brother and slam my glass on the table, making him look up at me with wide eyes. "What?"
I laugh. "You must think you're so smooth, don't you?"
Stephen furrows his eyebrows. "I don't understand what you mean."
I scoff. "I was with Scott last night, which means you just lied to me, Stephen."
Stephen's face drains. "You were?"
I nod my head. "He was at the Halloween party with Kira."
Stephen sighs. "Oh."
I lean against the counter top. "So, what were you really doing last night?"
Stephen is silent for a moment before he looks up at me, not saying anything. I narrow my eyes when realization comes across me.
"Please don't tell me you were tracking down that person," I say, shaking my head.
Stephen leans closer, fire behind his eyes. "I have to know who did that, Sarah! They could have killed us!"
I widen my eyes as I feel my hands grow hot. "Stephen, listen to yourself! You're tracking down someone who was trying to kill us, but didn't. You're going to get yourself killed just by going after them! Why can't you just learn to let things go?"
Stephen shakes his head. "What if they come back and try to kill us again?"
I lean back, shaking my head. I knew that if that person did come back, they wouldn't be after us. They'd be after Scott. If only I could tell Stephen that. I sigh before leaning back, closing my eyes for a brief moment.
"Stephen, please promise me you won't do this anymore," I say, staring at my brother.
Stephen shakes his head and slams his spoon into the bowl of cereal. "I'm not giving up. I've already found some stuff-"
"Like what?" I say, crossing my arms.
Stephen stands. "I found blood on the street where it happened. We can find out who it is, Sarah."
I gulp, thinking for a moment. We could figure out who was after Scott and almost killed us. We could learn who that person really was, but I knew that I couldn't give into Stephen. I needed to prove a point that this searching was dangerous.
"I don't care," I say, uncrossing my arms. "You need to stop this or else you'll get hurt. I can't lose you too, Stephen. You're all I have left."
Stephen is silent for a moment before he grabs his bag laying on the floor, throwing it over his shoulders. He stares at me before looking at the ground, closing his eyes. "Come on. We have school."
I watch as Stephen walks out of the kitchen and out the door. I sigh, knowing that he wasn't ever going to let this go until he knew. He was like this whenever mom died. He searched and searched for who or what caused that fire, but he never learned. The police soon got involved and forced him to stop, which he finally did. Maybe that's what I should do to get him to stop now.
I grab my bag on the floor before reaching for my cup, about to throw it into the sink. I stop when I see that the glass had what looked like melting spots from where my hands were. I pick the cup up, examining it closely. I did this?
If I did this, then that means that I didn't mean to do it. I didn't mean to practically melt the cup. It meant that I didn't have control.
What happens if I lose control at the wrong time and hurt someone?
--------------------
I sigh as I walk into History class, spotting Kira, Scott, and Stiles sitting in the back of the room. I also spotted the two boys, Ethan and Aiden, the ones who almost set me on fire, sitting close to them as well. I groan before I see Kira wave me over, pointing to one of the empty desks.
I make my way over to the desk, glaring at the twins on the way I might add. I set my text book onto the desk before sitting down, turning to the three teenagers. I notice Stiles instantly, seeing dark bags under his eyes. He looked like he hasn't slept in who knows how long.
"Are you okay?" I ask Stiles as he looks at me dazily.
He shakes his head slowly. "Just haven't gotten much sleep lately, that's all."
Scott seems concerned. "Maybe you should take the day off."
Stiles shakes his head. "No, I'll be fine."
Scott sighs before he turns back to me, reaching out for my head. I widen my eyes as he turns my head, his finger going to the tip of my ear. He pulls it forward as the three of them look, nodding. He pulls away before I rub behind my ear, looking at them like they were crazy.
"What was that for?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.
Kira explains. "Those shadow figures from last night marked the ones that did that thing to them."
I shake my head. "Marked?"
Scott nods. "Yeah, it's like a backwards five behind your left ear. We aren't sure what it means yet though."
I lower my hand. "Does anyone even know what those things were?"
All three of them shakes their heads. "Not yet. Allison and Isaac are working on that as we speak."
I nod, not being able to place a face with the names. "What do you think it means?" The four of us look at one another, not daring to state the obvious.
"Maybe it means you're going to be sacrificed along with four others," Stiles states, causing me to glare at him. Stiles shrugs. "What? It happened last year..."
I furrow my eyebrows, not understanding what he meant, but I didn't get the chance to ask. "I'm sure all of you guys will be fine."
"All of us?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.
Scott nods. "You, Derek, Aiden, Ethan, and Isaac all were marked last night."
I still didn't recognize some of the names. "Why us?"
Scott sighs. "We aren't sure, but you all are supernatural."
I widen my eyes. "Then that means they'll be after you two," I say, referring to Scott and Kira.
Scott nods. "We know. That's why Kira is coming to my house tonight."
I look at Kira, who is trying not to smile. "How are you supposed to protect yourselves there?"
Scott nods. "We have a mountain ash barrier." Kira and I look at him with wide eyes, not understanding. Scott sighs. "It keeps the supernatural out."
I nod, still not understanding what in the world he was talking about, but I had a good feeling that I would be finding out soon enough. Our conversation ends after Mr. Yukimura begins the lesson, meaning that my ears has officially turned off. I wasn't in the mood to learn about some dumb history lesson when all of this other junk was going on. I couldn't stop thinking about it.
After class was over, the bell rang and people began leaving the room. I gathered my books and things when I noticed that Stiles was laying on his desk, asleep. I chuckled as I looked up and saw Scott and Kira leave the room, chatting away. They didn't even notice that Stiles was asleep.
I turn back to Stiles and shake his shoulder. "Stiles, wake up. Class is over."
The sleeping boy doesn't even flinch. I set my books down and shake his shoulder harder, wanting to get him up before the next bell rang. "Stiles, come on."
Stiles still didn't move. I sighed as I stood up straight, placing a hand on my hip. Then, I thought of an idea on how to wake him up. I grinned as I held out a finger, concentrating. After I was sure it was working, I pressed my finger against Stiles' arm, causing him to wake up instantly.
"Ow!" he yelped as he stood up frantically in his chair. "What the hell was that?"
I smile as I hold up my finger. "Just a little heat."
Stiles rubs his arm with his hand, calming down finally. He sighs before grabbing his books, a look of sadness coming across him. I furrow my eyebrows before I walk after him, wanting to know what was the matter with him.
"I'm sorry if that hurt you," I said, walking beside him. "I didn't know you'd be that upset."
"I'm not upset about that," Stiles says, yawning.
I furrow my eyebrows. "Then what are you upset about?"
Stiles sighs again. "I just had another nightmare-"
"What about?" I ask, pulling my books closer to me.
He stops in the hallway and turns towards me. "Promise me you won't tell Scott."
I nod my head slowly, wondering what the big deal was about a dream. "Sure."
Stiles nods before talking. "It was weird; like it was almost real. There was a guy that was wrapped in bandages asking me riddles and things. He told me things that I thought were a little odd, but I don't know..."
"What did he tell you?" I question.
Stiles looks up. "He told me that chaos was coming; that many people are going to die soon."
I widen my eyes. "Jeez, what kind of nightmares do you have?"
Stiles shakes his head. "They've been happening ever since we sacrificed ourselves."
I didn't know what he meant, but I didn't want to ask. I knew that would lead into a long conversation about something I would never fully understand.
"Why don't you want Scott to know?" I ask, making Stiles tense up.
"Because it's just a dream," he says, staring at the floor. "Plus, I don't want him to worry about me."
I rub his shoulder. "How come you told me then?"
Stiles looks up after that, a faint smile forming on his face. He doesn't pause as he looks me in the eyes, his amber eyes making me forget about everything around us.
"Because I trust you."

Okay so this is short I know but the next chapter will be with the Oni and everything. Things should start to pick up soon, so be prepared!
On another note, FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WATCH TVD DID YOU SEE THAT NINA IS LEAVING THE SHOW? How can the main character of a show leave? I honestly hope that they end the show after this season because you can't have a show without the main character. That's like having Teen Wolf without the teen wolf. It just can't be done.
