Chapter 10 | Letting Go

All that's been on my mind ever since last night is what was going on. First off, Kira and I almost died, but we didn't. I knew before that there was something wrong with me, but Kira too? She should have been electrocuted and I should have burned into tiny little pieces. Why didn't we? What were we?

Another thing I was confused about was what Barrow was talking about. The children with glowing eyes? Last I remembered, I didn't have glowing eyes, unless you count that one time I dropped the liquid that's in a glow stick in my eye. That hurt.

The last thing I was really worried about was Stephen. He suspected that something went on last night, since I did show up home without the clothes I left in. Stiles let me borrow his red jacket and he lent me a pair of sweatpants for me to change into, so that was what I wore home. Stephen was the only one awake at the time, but when he saw me, he gave me an unsettling look. He probably thought I got drunk and did something dumb.

It'd rather him think that than that I was some type of fire monster.

We haven't talked since our argument last night. He went out of his way to stay away from me; like making me drive myself to school, which was where I was now. I was now walking down the hall, heading to my locker. When I arrive at it, I hear Kira run up behind me, almost as if she was out of breath.

"Can you explain to me what happened last night?" Kira says, her eyes wide. "Or at least explain to me what happened to us?"

She seemed to be more excited about this than I was. I turn to her, shutting my locker. "I'm just as curious as you, Kira."

She shakes her head. "You don't know anything? Like at least to how Scott and Stiles knew where we were?"

I shrug my shoulders, not thinking about that. "They must have just saw Barrow take us."

Kira raises an eyebrow. "But Scott was knocked out and Stiles was no where near us."

I sigh. "I don't know Kira. Maybe they tracked our phones or something."

She nods her head, not looking satisfied with that answer. "Maybe..."

"You could try asking Scott," I say, not liking the idea of myself talking to the boy. I still wasn't fully on his side, mostly because I was still a little scared of the guy. Something seemed unsettling about him.

Kira shrugs, looking at the ground. "I don't know if I really want to talk to him about it..."

The bell rings, ending our little discussion. Kira and I say our goodbyes before we walk off in different directions, both of us having different classes. I hug the books closer to me before I feel a hand wrap aroud my bicep, pulling me to the side. A hand clasps over my mouth as the person pulls me into the locker room, shutting the door behind me.

My eyes widen as the person whips me around so that I'm facing them, seeing that it was some boy I didn't know. He was wearing a red shirt and he honestly would be sort of attractive if it weren't for the fact that he was now suffocating me.

I try to mumble out words as he stares at me, his eyes scanning my face. "Ethan was right. You are quite pretty."

I furrow my eyebrows as the boy removes his hand, stepping back and scanning me up and down. My mouth falls open as I breath heavily, angry that he just scared me like that. "What in the hell do you want?"

The boy cocks his head to the side. "We want to know what you are."

I whip around, seeing another boy who looked the exact same at the one who grabbed me. They must be twins. Great.

"Well, tell me when you find out, because I'd like to know as well," I snap as I head to the door. The other boy steps in front of it, blocking me from exiting. "Move."

He crosses his arms. "No. Not until you show us."

I shake my head. "Show you what?"

The boy half grins as he pulls out a match, lighting it. "Show us what you can do."

I shake my head as I back up from the boy, wanting to get out of here. The other boy behind me grabs my arms and holds me in place, grinning ear to ear. I struggle to get out of his grasp, but he was too strong. I grunt as the boy in front of me walks closer, bringing the match closer to my face.

"Why are you doing this?" I say as the boy behind me jerks my head to the side, holding my cheek out for the boy with the match.

The boy behind me squeezes my face. "We need to know if it's true. Plus, you could be a threat."

"What happens if I am?" I say, some type of courage rising in me.

The boy in front of me pauses. "Then we have to kill you."

I widen my eyes before the next thing I know, the match is being pressed against my cheek. I wrinkle my face up as my cheek grows hot, but it manages to not burn the skin. The boy in front of me scoffs, not believing what he was seeing.

"I can't believe it," he says, pulling the match away. "He wasn't kidding."

My chest heaves in big breaths as the door opens, revealing a skinny brunette. She furrows her eyebrows as the twins turn and look at her, panic on their faces.

"What in the hell is going on?" the girl says, anger in her tone.

The twins release me, causing me to grunt. "We were...uh-"

The girl walks forward, standing up to the boys. "You listen to me and you listen close. Sarah is apart of Scott's pack, which means you probably just lost your one and only chance in being in that pack. You leave her alone or else I will gladly kill you both like you did Boyd."

The twins sulk down before the girl grabs my wrist, pulling me out of the locker room. "I'm sorry about that," she says as she pulls me down the hall. "Ethan and Aiden don't know what they're doing. Just stick with us and you'll be fine."

She continues to drag me down the hall, but I was still stuck on that one little phrase that she used a few moments ago.

Sarah is apart of Scott's pack.

-----------------

"Sarah! Someone is here for you!" I hear Vanesa scream from downstairs. I furrow my eyebrows, wondering who in the world would want me this late. I set my laptop to the side as I walk down the stairs, looking up and seeing no one other than Stiles Stilinski.

"Hey," he says, waving at me awkwardly.

I say hello as Vanesa walks off, leaving Stiles and I standing in the doorway. "What's up?"

Stiles folds his hands in front of him, looking nervous about something. "So, there's this Halloween party tonight, and I was wondering if you wanted to come?"

I raise an eyebrow. "Who's party is it?"

Stiles shrugs. "You don't know him, but I've heard it's already getting kinda crazy. It's black light party and the Bloody Beetroots is the DJ."

I widen my eyes, the name sounding familiar. "Sure! I don't have anything better to do tonight anyways."

Stiles grins. "Okay, I'll go wait in my jeep."

I nod as he turns around and as I turn and run up the stairs, going to my room. It only takes me about five minutes to change out of my sweatpants (which were Stiles') and to fix my hair. I'm one of those people who can get ready in a matter of no time, which is a good thing I suppose.

As I walk out of my room, I notice that Stephen wasn't in his. He must have went out with some friends or something. I turn and walk down the stairs, saying goodbye to Vanesa before going to Stiles' jeep, hopping into the passenger seat.

"That was quick," Stiles says as I slide on my seat belt.

I nod. "I'm quick at getting myself ready."

Stiles pulls out of the driveway. "You must be the quickest girl in history to be able to get ready that fast, since it usually takes girls a long time. I mean-I wouldn't know-I haven't exactly had any girlfriends."

I roll my eyes slightly, wanting to change the subject. I couldn't think of anything to talk about, so we sit in silence for awhile, listening to the soft hum of the radio. After a couple of minutes of this, I got bored with it. "Uh, thanks for letting me borrow your clothes yesterday."

Really Sarah? Why did you have to say that.

Stiles smiles a little, probably thinking of the fact that he saw me naked. "It's no problem. You can keep them if you want."

I nod awkwardly. "Thanks."

Stiles is silent for a moment before he's speaking again. "Did Barrow tell you guys anything..."

I raise an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Stiles makes a turn. "I mean, he didn't mention to you two about what you might be or anything?"

I shake my head. "No. He just kept telling us that he found the girls with the glowing eyes, whatever that means."

Stiles nods a little before looking at me. "We'll figure out what you are, Sarah. We'll figure out what both of you are."

I stare at the road in front of us. "I'm not even sure if I want to know what I am."

Stiles turns to me. "What? Why?"

I shake my head, not really knowing why myself. "I think that if I don't know, it convinces me that I am still normal. Knowing what I am will change all of that."

Stiles sighs. "Being normal is over rated anyways."

I smile a little before he pulls in front of a building, lights flashing from the top floor. I stare up at them before Stiles is opening the passenger door, motioning for me to get out. I smile faintly as I jump onto the pavement, Stiles shutting the door behind me. Stiles leads the way as we walk inside the building, taking the elevator up to the top floor. As we step out, I can already hear the music baring from the loft. Stiles slides the loft door open, leaving my jaw dropped.

There was a huge mob of people dancing in the middle and the place was exploding with color. Most of the teens were shirtless and were grinding on one another, the beat taking them away. I look up and see the DJ to the side, jamming along with everyone else.

"Are you just going to stand there or come dance with me?" Stiles laughs as he grabs my hand, pulling me into the loft. He drags me into the crowd, taking the both of us to an open area. Once he finds one, he turns and begins dancing, making me laugh.

"Stiles, what are you doing?" I say as he does what appears to be the sprinkler. He looked like he was having a spazz attack.

Stiles raises an eyebrow. "I'm dacning, which is what you aren't doing."

I look around. "I don't dance, Stiles."

Stiles stops and stares at me. "Everyone can dance. You just have to try."

I sigh. "I'll just embarrass myself-"

"Then embarrass yourself with me!" Stiles yells as he begins dancing again. "No one's watching!"

I look around again and see that he was right. Everyone else was too consumed in their alcohol and their dancing. I finally give into Stiles and begin dancing, moving my body along with the beat. Stiles nods and laughs in approval, glad that I finally gave in.

"There we go!" he yells, pumping his fist into the air. "You aren't a bad dancer!"

I shake my head. "Stop lying to me. I'm God awful."

Stiles shakes his head. "I'm not lying! You're actually pretty good-"

Stiles gets cut off as someone stumbles into him, spilling whatever was in his red solo cup all over him. Stiles gasps as the cold liquid stains his shirt, the boy who ran into him scoffing. "Watch where you're going!"

"Excuse me?" I say, walking up to boy. "You are the one who ran into him!"

The boy stares at me, pushing my shoulders back. "And who are you?"

I scoff, ignoring his comment. "Appologize."

He laughs in my face. "Appologize for what?"

I bawl my hand into a fist at my side. "You know what you did."

The boy shakes his head, anger rising in me. Stiles steps forward and grabs my arm, holding me back. "He's drunk, Sarah. Calm down."

I rip my arm away before turning around. "I'll go get some paper towels."

I storm off towards what I guessed was the bathroom, taking a lucky guess. I don't know why I was so angry, but I didn't really care. I guess I was only angry because I cared for Stiles, and I didn't want to see anyone push him around like that. It reminded me too much of my own childhood with people making fun of Stephen and I about our parents.

I slam the door behind me, looking around the small room for a towel or something. I was unable to see anything since the light was off. I look around for a light switch, not finding anything. I then feel something touch the top of my head; feeling like a string. Must be the light switch.

I reach up and pull the string, the light illuminating the bathroom around me. I nod in approval as I look around for a towel, finally seeing one. I go to reach for it when the light flickers off, plunging me into darkness again. I sigh, reaching up for the string. I pull it and find that the light was completely burnt out. Great.

Then I thought of an idea. I didn't know if it would work or not, but it was worth a shot. Since I was technically fireproof, I wondered if I could do other things with fire. One of those things being able to control it and create it.

I hold out a fist, closing my eyes and concentrating. I take a deep breath before opening my eyes, slowly opening my fist. I grin when I see a little flame burning there, lighting up the room around me. It was odd to see a little ball of fire in your hand, but it sure would come in handy for other things than just a light source.

My joy was short lived when I hear a sizzling sound behind me, it sounding very familiar. I whip around and hold out my hand, lighting up whatever was standing there. That was when I saw it. It was one of those shadow figures from that night at the hospital. The ones that came after Melissa and I.

I guess I was so scared that I lost concentration and the flame in my hand burnt out, leaving me in darkness once again. I couldn't see what was happening around me, but it didn't matter. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor, my mind drifting off to darkness.

--------------------

"Sarah, come on."

"Why is she so cold?"

"Sarah, wake up!"

My eyes flutter open when a sudden chill runs down my spine, making my whole body shake. I look up and see Stiles there, my body in his arms. He was holding me close to his body; my guess to try and keep me warm. Kira was there as well, kneeling beside me.

"Stiles?" I stutter out, confused at what was happening. Stiles looks down at me, relief coming over him.

"Thank God you're okay," he says, pulling my head closer to his chest. My teeth begin to chatter as my hands shake. "What happened?"

I shake my head. "I-I don't know. I was in here looking for a towel when these things...they came out of the dark."

Kira furrows her eyebrows. "They came out of the dark?"

I don't get to answer as screaming erupts from outside the door, followed by the sound of footsteps. I try to get up and see whats happening, but my body wouldn't let me. It was like I was frozen in place. Stiles tries to look out of the door to see, but he is unable to as well.

"Go see whats going on," Stiles says to Kira who nods and runs out of the room.

I look up at Stiles, remembering something that might work. If fire can light up the dark, I'm sure it can warm me up as well. I close my eyes and concentrate on my body heat as I feel myself get warmer by the second, making me start to sweat. Stiles starts to push me away as he holds his hands up, gasping.

"Why are you so hot?" he says, shaking his head.

I stop concentrating and look up at him. "Sorry. I was trying something, and it worked."

I feel my body temperature go back to normal as I stand up, Stiles doing so as well. We both run out of the bathroom and see the shadow figures standing there in the middle of the room, a few people gathered around them as well. Those people being Scott, Kira, Allison, Lydia, the twins, a boy, and another man I didn't know.

I stop Stiles from running any closer as the figures turn to Scott, prepared to go after him next. Scott's eyes turn to a dark red as his canines extend, backing up and looking as if he was protecting Kira. My heart thumps in my chest, prepared to help Scott defend these things if I had too, but we got lucky.

The sun starts to shine through the window, the rays bleeding towards the figures. Everyone was confused as they disappeared into the thin air when the light touched them as if it was a poison. Stiles looks at me as if things got a lot more complicated as everyone shakes their heads, not understanding what in the world just happened.

I was only wondering what those things did to me.

Yay! Learned some of Sarah's "powers" :)
