Chapter 7
Kate knows when she's fucked something up. And she knows for a fact, that she's fucked up hers and Selina's relationship almost completely. She'd half thought that Selina would appear at the same building which overlooked crime alley at about the time she was ready to call in for the night.
But she didn't.
"Jason." Kate greets, launching herself into his and Dick's spare apartment. Noticing Jack on the carpeted floor, playing with his toys. Jason raises an eyebrow from his position on the couch, flipping the pages of his book.
"Uh.. Batwoman, hi." Jason tries to sound formal, and he would've succeeded if not for the adorable toddler and him not being in his suit. Kate grunts.
"I need... advice." She starts and Jason pats the seat next to him on the couch and she recurrently sits with her hands clasped tightly together "Because I realised that I have permanently fucked up my relationship with Kyle." Jason rolls his eyes and puts his book down and assisting to Jack.
"How so?" He asks, picking up his son and making his way to the kitchen. Kate follows.
"Well... I asked her out, and then I asked her about the business with Captain Cold and the drug deals right in the middle of it. I ended up getting drunk and then I was home naked next to a blonde girl. Heck! I've never had a things for blondes, I'm more of a raven person."
She knows shes rambling, but she can't stop "You know it's a bad idea to talk about vigilante stuff when your on a date...right?" Jason inquires, running a hand over Jack's shoulder and his son in return, grasps at his fingers while Jason warms up his bottle "Selina must've thought you just asked her out for your own benefit."
Kate knows that dammit. What she wants to know is how to fix it. Jason scoffs "Which I bet is why you even asked her out. No wonder you and Reeve didn't work out. Your too busy brooding that you don't think of people around you and how they feel. Your lack of human compassion is what makes her mad." Jason turns to look at her "I should know, because I was the same until I met Dick."
Kate feels like she's intruding Jason's thoughts when she sees his face soften when looking at Jack, who looks a lot like himself despite being adopted.
"But what should I do? I can't find out where she lives and it's stupid of me to even figure it out because Kyle's one slick stray." She snarls and Jason raises an eyebrow (again) "You can start, by calling her by her actual name. Want me to spell it out for you? S - E - L - I - N - A. There, now say it out loud."
Jason is saying it mockingly, because Kate knows that Selina is like a mother to the Red Hood, might it be on the streets or in a domestic way. And Kate hurt her, that's why Jason isn't going to go easy on her either. It's almost endearing.
"Fine, I need Selina's apartment code." Selina's name felt nice rolling off her tongue, no matter how many times she's used it before, but that was unintentional, this was intentional. And slightly forced, she adds quietly.
Jason simply hums, before placing Jack in Kate's arms and taking out a piece of paper from a cabinet drawer and scribbling down something and handing it to Kate who runs over it, her eye scanning device replicating it and storing it in her flies, she'd get to work after a nights work.
Jason takes his son back and waves at Kate dismissively "Get out of here before someone sees." Kate tries not to smile when she hurls out of the window and onto the lonely streets. She thinks she sees a glimpse of something moving.
But that's her imagination...right?
