Chapter two
I walked faster, toward my house. Out of nervousness and because it was getting cooler out. I buried my hands into my pockets, trying to walk faster despite how much my legs were shaking.
"Lex! What are you doing out?"
It was Anden, our neighbor. He too, was oblivious to my hobbies.
"O- oh. I was just visiting a friend."
I smiled at him, although I was still cold. He waved me inside, offering me something to drink.
"No, it's okay. Char wants me at home" I politely declined his offer.
"Maybe next time, okay?"
He nodded understanding, and waved through the window.
I stepped inside, the warmth of my home embraced me. I breathed in, feeling relieved.
Mmm..
Somehing smelled good. Really good. I don't know what it was but I sure would eat it.
"You're home!"
Char called out from the kitchen.
I walked up the stairs slowly, anticipating what I would see.
"Hi" She smiled, proudly.
On the kitchen table were two plates of spaghetti, no meatballs. I don't like them. A huge plate of garlic bread in the middle.
"Wine?"
There were fancy glasses, with red liquid.
"Cream soda..."
I giggled softly. We both sat down and started eating. I tried to look elegant, eating slowly. I couldn't control myself very well. I managed to finish quickly, watching Char eat. She was so petite, and graceful. I wonder how she got involved with a punk like me.
Her cheeks flushed a bit when she noticed I was looking at her. I have to admit I was a bit shy sometimes too. Especially around certain people.
I always had to act cocky around my clients. If you showed fear it was bad. They would think you are vulnerable. I established a dominance thing. It was like being in the wild, eat or be eaten. If you look like a small, scared little girl, they might bring their friends and beat you. They'll take all you have and wave the money in your face before walking away.
I know a lot about this stuff. After all, I learned at an early age. But that story is for another time.
"So, is this what you were planning earlier?" I asked, getting Char's attention.
She nodded, smiling sheepishly.
"I- I just wanted to do something nice for you. You're. ..really uhm..nice!"
I could swear that was flirting. But she did this alot. Now that I think about it, I kinda take it for granted.
"Thank you. You do a lot of nice things for me. One of them is living with me. I don't do that much for you, and I'm sorry for that. But don't worry I'll make up for it."
I smiled at her, as her face lit up.
She looked down at her empty plate, letting her rich blonde hair cascade into a curtain, which made it hard to see her face.
Something was off about her. She acted like this sometimes when she did nice things for me. I watched her body language.
Just like my parents had taught me...
She crossed her legs under the table. Something she didn't do that often.
"Char, are you okay?"
She nodded slowly, brushing the hair out of her face. She bit her lip, standing up and taking the plates to the sink. She was avoiding me. But why?
I crept up behind her, carefully. My hand shook a bit, as I slowly brought it to Char's shoulder. She flinched at my touch. That was not normal. She liked to touch me a lot actually. Even tickle me. Yes I know, how brave of me.
I only remember once that she flinched at my touch.
She was breaking heavily, and I knew she wasn't okay. I called out to her, but she shrugged me off. She'd been to the club. I sat down next to her, trying to get through to her. How much had she had to drink? I smelled it in her breath. I put my hand on her cheek, forcing her to look at me. She flinched, and her breath hitched.
She was drunk that night, but what was with her today?
"Sorry..you just...suprised me."
I backed off, without saying anything.
Flop
I plopped onto the couch, sighing. I grabbed the remote, flicking through all the channels. I had found a good one, Honey boo boo. I watched for a few minutes, occasionally chuckling at her rediculous behavior.
I suddenly fell silent when I felt someone beside me. It was Char. She was standing, awkwardly looking at me.
"Look, just know I really appreciate you. Okay Char?"
She didn't say anything to me. This was so strange.
Before I could even process what was happening, she sat in my lap.
"I need to tell you something."
I nodded, my eyes wide. Thoughts flew through my brain like bees. What would she tell me?
Though maybe I'd have to wait to find out.
Knock knock.
She leaped off my lap, like a bunny. Since she was busy freaking out, I was forced to get the door.
I just hoped it wasn't one of my clients, or friends from the business. 'Else I'd have to explain how we met, and if I lied they'd be confused.
As usual I was just paranoid.
Something else I enheirited.
"Hi Anden"
Ooo what was Char gonna say? Why is Anden at the door? Woo ooo
Hope y'all liked! Pls comment and vote!
Love yall!
